We'll be meeting the 2nd Thursday of every month at Puppet Labs in the Pearl District. The presentation will start at 6pm and be done a little after 7 giving everyone plenty of time to mingle over pizza and talk about all things Sassy.

The Drupal Front End Meetup happens every third Thursday at the Squishymedia offices on 116 NE 6th Ave, 3rd floor at 6pm. This group is focused on the theming and design aspects of Drupal development. Come nerd out with us over CSS, Javascript, theme functions and other interesting front-end tools.

CALL FOR SPEAKERS: We're currently looking for people willing to give 5-25 minute talks for the August and future meetups. It can be a presentation or just a show and tell of some new mixin, framework or cool new toy. Ping me if you are interested.

After a few super nerdy meetups, this month we will return to the aesthetics end of our front-end spectrum and talk a bit about typography and web fonts.

Jay Mallison and Mike Katsufrakis from Live Axle will tell us all about their adventures in creating a #NearlyHeadlessDrupal site where they are decoupling Drupal's excellent content management abilities from it's less-than-ideal frontend using JSON output and Angular.js.

This week we are going to be talking about Google's new Web Starter Kit, creating a simple Sass Style Guide and Managing Your Dev Environment with VirtualBox, Vagrant, and Puppet.

Programmers Can UX Too

Programmers have a bad reputation when it comes to UX, but it’s time to set the record straight: It isn’t because we don’t care! It’s because we fall in the trap of thinking we can design a user interface and write it at the same time when, the truth is, these processes require different kinds of thinking. But learning how to unlock that part of your brain is worth it– and you’ll be surprised at what you already know. From one developer to another, this talk will discuss why you should think critically about the interfaces you write and give you some strategies you can start applying right away.

This talk is aimed at developers, both front-end and server-side, who implement user interfaces but may not have training in UX. And the truth is, ALL programmers implement user interfaces; sometimes the user is another developer (in the case of an API) or a more advanced user (for a command-line tool), but all software has its users.

Doors will open at 5:30, and the presentation will begin right at 6p. The food and drinks are provided by Bellagios and New Relic.

Eryn O'Neil is a PHP web developer (LAMP, naturally) and technical lead at Clockwork Active Media in Minneapolis, MN. There, she has worked on everything from e-commerce to online promotions to building a CMS. Her philosophy? Simple: Write software that’s easy to maintain and even easier to use.
