Come hear local entrepreneur Hiroshi Morihara, the founder of HM3 Energy and VIA Press. Mr. Morihara has also served as Chairman and CEO of Peninsula Laboratories and President for the American Peptide Company. Mr. Morihara will speak on entrepreneurship and the experiences he has had working with community resources such as the Community College, utility companies and local government in bringing a business idea forward into profitability.

Two companies will give a five minute pitch on who they are and what they do and will solicit feedback from the experienced entrepreneurs in the audience.

Portland Code Camp (http://portlandcodecamp.org), the annual free event that invites software professionals from throughout the Northwest to present on a wide range of programming technologies will be held on Saturday, June 4, from 8am to 10pm at Eliot Center (http://eliotcenterportland.org/) in downtown Portland.

This year’s keynote will be Scott Hanselman (http://computerzen.com), who will speak on: “Lego, Open Source and Sucking Less: An Overview of the MS Web Stack of Love”. A popular speaker who, by his own admission, doesn’t “sleep too much”, Scott is currently a Microsoft principal program manager, has been Chief Architect at Corillian Corporation, and a principal consultant at STEP Technology.

Come listen to a wide range of topics and technologies inluding talks on: Android Apps, Windows Phone 7 programming, HTML5, Azure, the Cloud, Asynchronous Programming, Open Source frameworks, and much more.

Our economy has become a service economy. The shift away from manufacturing has been happening for some time, but lately the pace of change is increasing. New offerings make it easier and cheaper for individuals to become service providers, and expanding networks are changing the business landscape day by day. The level of coherency consumers demand across an ever-increasing range of digital and analog interactions is on the rise, too. Established businesses complain of being internally siloed, or not nimble enough to keep up; agile startups struggle to escape price wars in commodified industries. The challenge for organizations large and small is actually the same: how do we connect better? How can we mean more?

The answer lies in understanding the nature of change, which our panel will investigate:

--How can businesses learn to identify when change presents opportunity?

--What does it take to continually understand and adapt to changing customers?

--How do businesses know what to change to stay relevant?

Innovation is essential to meeting today’s challenges through new services or reimagining mature offerings. Katie's expertise includes interaction and industrial design, business strategy and user research.

Cliff Kuang, Senior Editor WIRED Cliff is an articles editor at WIRED, where he oversees design coverage in-print and online. He also oversees WIRED's homepage and its business coverage online. Previously, he was design editor at Fast Company, where he founded its award-winning spin-off site, Co.Design.

Cale Thompson, Creative Director Ziba Design Cale Thompson is a creative director at Ziba, providing relevant and compelling insights that inspire, inform and affect innovative products and services. He leads multidisciplinary teams of designers and researchers to develop innovative new experiences for businesses.

Christina Beard will present on the fundamentals of animation, and how those principles can be applied to web development. Her talk will explore the basic animation principles used by character animators the world over for studios like Disney, Pixar or Studio Ghibli and how those same principles can be applied to create more pleasing and engaging motion graphics and design for web developers.

Christina is a Portland born and raised designer and animator. She has worked for the video game industry as an animator and game designer, as well as on commercials, graphic design and front end web development. Outside of work she loves to write fiction and play video games.

I know, I know. Accessibility seems like a thing that we should do... but it's sometimes uncomfortable to talk about and it feels like there aren't that many people who need it anyway... right?

Wrong. About 1 in 5 Americans reports that they have some kind of disability - from hearing impairment, vision impairment, mobility issues to mental disabilities and more. What does this mean for you and your company? It means that if you're not creating sites, services, and products with this group of people in mind, you're letting go of a multi-billion dollar market share. It also means that you're missing opportunities to be innovative leaders in your space. It also - finally - means that you're about to be breaking the law. Did you know that companies like Target and Netflix have been successfully (and expensively) sued for failure to create and maintain accessible sites? Well, they have. And we don't want that for you.

We're putting on a seriously hands-on workshop to help people from all ends of all companies think about this topic. Building the Accessibility Roadmap is a hands-on workshop. It is not a panel, or a lecture, or a networking schmooze event. You will leave with a real plan that you can implement. Join us for a special evening with Daniel Wilson, author of the New York Times bestselling Robopocalypse and its sequel Robogenesis, as well as seven other books.

Daniel, who earned a PhD in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as Masters degrees in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics will be reading from his most recent novel, The Clockwork Dynasty.

After the reading, Daniel will be joined by Todd Greco, Ziba’s Director of Interactive Design, in a conversation exploring where science, technology and design overlap, and the future of machines. We look forward to audience engagement in this conversation. Daniel will be available for a book signing following the speaking program.

The Clockwork Dynasty imagines a history in which humanlike court automatons secretly served the great empires of antiquity. Centuries later, the same machines are running out of power. As the modern-day survivors cannibalize each other for energy, a human scientist will risk her life to find the origin of the machine race, and the key to saving it.

Doors at 5:30pm, show starts promptly at 6pm. Pizza & drinks to follow.

MilkRun was created to solve the marketing and logistics hurdles of small producers, using technology to replicate joint collection and delivery.
