Community Manager Meetup - Let's talk about LinkedIn Events: Meetup.com replacement? Facebook replacement?

    Marquam

    Please RSVP on Meetup.com

If you didn't notice, LinkedIn quietly added an in-person event feature to their core application last year. LinkedIn already provides an online community platform through their "Groups" and with this feature they now have support of in-person communities.

At it's most basic level, this new feature allows for Time/Date/Location, attendance tracking, and sending invites through LinkedIn.

How can community leaders and community managers leverage this tool to expand our online and in-person community presence? What are the pitfalls and missing features? Can we integrate or complement local community solutions like Calagator or other tools like Meetup, Facebook, Reddit, and online forums?

Joe Dunn has been evaluating LinkedIn events for several weeks and will be sharing his insights with a brief presentation. Bring your notes and observations on using LinkedIn for community building.

    Agenda: 5:00pm - Welcome time 5:45pm - Presentation beings 6:15pm - Group discussion

This location is ADA accessible and located near the Max station on 2nd and Yamhill. Street parking is generally available in the evenings.

Community Manager Meetup: The basics of Vendors & Community

    Marquam

There are a lot of fund raising strategies for your community group. As your community grows you may need to raise funds and you might look at utilizing the vendors in your community as funding sources.

In this presentation and discussion, Joe will provide:

    • The breadth of fundraising strategies by communities, and typical revenue models
    • Considerations of legally incorporating as a 501c3 vs other options
    • Identifying vendors in your community and evaluating their financial potential
    • Tips doing outreach to vendors when asking for money
    • Understanding what vendors want in exchange for money, and possible ways to balance the interests of everyone
    • Objections your vendors might have and ways to negotiate

Bring your experience working with vendors and sponsors. Where have you found success, what horror stories do you have, and think about how we can help other communities do this better.

The presentation should be relevant to online and in-person community groups.

"Tungsten Fabric: Open Source Multi-Cloud Networking at Scale" @ PAzUG

    Marquam

Tungsten Fabric (http://www.tungsten.io; formerly OpenContrail) is an open source, scalable and multi-cloud networking platform. Large enterprises and service providers are using it at massive production scale, and this meetup offers some tips, insights, and "don't go theres" from users with success stories (and some battle scars).

Come to this meetup to learn how users are deploying Tungsten Fabric for load balancing, HA, service chaining, analytics/orchestration and extending network to multi private / public clouds viz., AWS, Azure and Google.

Sanju Abraham will be our speaker. Sanju Abraham will deliver a project overview, showcase users and use cases. Then, we’ll dive into a demo of Kubernetes with Tungsten Fabric across onprem and AWS. We’ll demonstrate the ability to access Kubernetes and launch new containers, access the Tungsten Fabric UI, and observe the network state.

Tungsten Fabric is integrated with Kubernetes, VMware and OpenStack. It also supports public cloud deployments including AWS, Google and Azure. As both Enterprise and Telco IT architectures evolve, supporting multi-cloud environments is table stakes. This meetup will lay out how users can quickly get going with Tungsten Fabric, using software-driven networking and policy management to operate in a multi-cloud environment.

If you’re interested in networking for private clouds running OpenStack, Kubernetes, and VMware that also rely on services from AWS, Google and Azure, this meetup is for you!

    Agenda:

    5:00pm – Welcome time 5:30pm – Catering served 5:45pm – Group announcements and presentation 7:30pm – Wrap up.

Power BI Flight School @ Office 365 PDX

    Marquam

Looking to get started with Power BI?

Bring your laptop to this hands-on tutorial on Microsoft Power BI. At this meeting of Office 365 PDX we’ll be talking about how end-users can get to work with Power BI. We're thinking of this class as a "Power BI Flight School", where we are teaching the basics of how end-users will navigate and use Power BI, not how to build or maintain complex reports.

We will dive into viewing dashboards, reports, understanding natural language query, Excel, and the other tools a user needs. No prior experience with Power BI is necessary, this session is not very technical, and we’ll be handing out log-in information to get you hands-on in a pre-built environment. Just bring a modern laptop with wifi and an up-to-date web browser.

Excel User Group: "Power Query, Vol. 2" @ Office 365 PDX

    Marquam

Want to sharpen your Microsoft Excel skills? Talk with other Excel lovers? Join us for another meeting with Oz du Soleil, Microsoft Excel MVP.

At this meeting Oz will provide another deep dive into Power Query and the ways Excel and Power Query work together. There's a lot that Power Query simplifies. It's eliminated the need for some things that were only possible with VBA coding BUT some things remain easier to do in native Excel and damned hard in Power Query. At this meeting, we'll dig into this.

Please RSVP for this event on the Meetup.com page.

Excel User Group: Intro to Power Query - First meeting!

    Marquam

Want to improve your Microsoft Excel skills? Check out this new meetup!

Power Query is the best addition to Excel since Office 2010 but it remains largely unknown. Please, come and see a demo of Power Query if you need to do any kind of data-cleansing or data-preparation, like:

    • Peel the domains out of email addresses • Convert reports into sortable tables • Compare lists • Stack the data from multiple tabs

These common tasks can be done with built-in Power Query features, whereas, in the olden days some of these tasks required VBA coding or hours of manual effort.

Gaining some Power Query skill is one of the simplest ways to get more from your data. You'll see!

Oz du Soleil is a Microsoft Excel MVP, author of Guerrilla Data Analysis, 2nd Ed., and runs the YouTube channel Excel on Fire. Website: http://ozdusoleil.com/
