description nil We're mixing things up again this month :) The next Meetup will be hosted at the new CrowdCompass' office! Registration will open at 12noon PST on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 and you DO need to RSVP to attend this event. Schedule 6:30pm - 7:00pm: Check-In, Networking and Food 7:00pm - 7:15pm: Responsive Templates, by Rocky Neurock 7:15pm - 7:25pm: Break 7:25pm - 7:55pm: Coding More Effectively Through Conventions, by Evan Rowe 7:55pm - 8:15pm: Wrap-ups, Networking *** Program Responsive Templates, by Rocky Neurock One tool in the Responsive Design belt involves making decisions, at the template level, for different devices/media. Ember makes it extremely easy to do this in Handlebars. Rocky will show some simple examples. Coding More Effectively Through Conventions, by Evan Rowe Terms like "convention over configuration" and "coding standards" are thrown around often in the development world, but not much time is dedicated to discussing why these things matter, and how they can be useful. We'll take a look at the importance of these principles, and how you can put them to work to improve the quality and efficiency of your (and your team's) code. *** Sponsors The leading mobile app provider for conferences and meetings. HealthSparq helps people make smarter health care choices. By offering tools that help people find providers, determine individualized costs and access quality and patient reviews, HealthSparq ensures that people are empowered to get the highest quality health care at the lowest cost.

description <i>Bob Loihl will be talking about the <b>Secure Software Development Life Cycle</b></i> Secure Software Development LifeCycle in an Agile world In this day and age we must do everything we can to produce secure software. But how you ask? I will be talking about some of the options available and how to get an initiative started in your workplace/project. I will cover some of the choices out there for Agile Development and then we'll examine one choice, BSIMM (https://www.bsimm.com/), in more depth. I will follow that up with a discussion of some of the challenges and some of the benefits of imlpementing an SSDLC. <b>Bob Loihl</b> ... Bob Loihl is a Software Engineer with 20+ years of experience developing business applications, leading teams and spreading the security word. He has a strong interest in delivering applications that are secure by design in an agile world. He has been helping Tripwire grow and mature its development processes for the last 10 years and his current hobby is incorporating SSDLC (Secure Software Development Life-Cycle) processes into the software manufacturing process. Bob is passionate about family, software, canoes and guitars. In his spare time he works at Tripwire producing high quality software using Agile methodologies. Oh yeah, he cares a tiny bit about security. <hr> The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a 501c3 not-for-profit worldwide charitable organization focused on improving the security of application software. To sign up for future meeting notes and to discuss security topics with local gurus, sign up on the OWASP Portland mailing list: https://lists.owasp.org/mailman/listinfo/owasp-portland Meetings are free and open to the public. <i>Bob Loihl will be talking about the <b> Secure Software Development Life Cycle</b></i><br> Secure Software Development LifeCycle in an Agile world In this day and age we must do everything we can to produce secure software. Do AI In C Alex Randolph's wonderful game Ricochet Robot (Rasende Roboter) depends on a player's ability to quickly find a path through a large maze. In this talk, I describe the game, and then describe my solution to the game (the first solution I am aware of): a table that allows instant lookup of the solution to any given game position. The table is almost 1 TB uncompressed, and required around 30 CPU-days to generate. This application is a good demonstration of why and how much AI is still done in C. I will show some techniques for clean yet highly efficient coding, demonstrate some infrastructure building and use, and discuss tradeoffs between memory use, speed optimization and easily verifiable correctness. --- Bart Massey is a 15th year Assoc. Prof. of Computer Science at Portland State University. Bart has a CS PhD from University of Oregon's Computational Intelligence Research Lab. He has been programming in C for more than 30 years, and is a regular contributor to the open source community.
