Portland Synth Meet is a gathering for audio synthesizer enthusiasts. It's a chance for makers and collectors to show off their gear, share notes and make sounds. Synths of all kinds will be represented including modular and desktop synths, drum machines, circuit bent instruments and algorithmic one-liners. Anything that can synthesize or manipulate sound is welcome. Bring your own speakers and power strips. Local synth makers will offer demos at the top of every hour. Then bands Golden Retriever and Acid Farm will remind the synth community what it's really all about, the music.
This event is free and open to all. Beer and snacks will be for sale. All donations and proceeds will benefit the Ethos Music Center, an organization promoting music-education for youth in underserved communities. |

Barbara Saunders, The Solo Pro Success Coach
Director, IASECP | Founder, Solo Pro Academy | Host, Solo Pro Radio
Barbara will be speaking on making the âmental upgrade' to the Solo Pro CEO mindset so your business can flourish.
Out-dated beliefsâjust like old software-will hold your business back. It's the cause of most self-sabotaging behaviors Solo Pros deal with. I will share personal experiences with my own businesses and with the Solo Pros I've coached to break out of the J.O.B. mentality so they can build powerful income-generating Solo Pro businesses, charge what they're worth and plot their own course. Please come join a fun 20-minute presentation with Q&A to follow. |

Vision Planning for the Community-Minded
Roll back
| description |
Whether a website, open source project, discussion group, visual art, nonprofit startup, or any kind of work, the main focus of the people who show up will be for the benefit of a group or groups of people (the "community"). Weâll have fun and develop a vision planning community of our own.
Do you not yet have a vision statement written out, or would you like to tweak or revise the one you have? Do you say things like, "I'm hoping someone will want to contribute to my project, it is for the public good after all?" Then this workshop is for you.
7-9pm Monday November 14th, but usually Third Mondays. Past coaches/consultants include: Russ Finkelstein (formerly Idealist Portland), Mark Grimes (NedSpace), Cheri Anderson (executive coach for Nike, startups, and small business owners), Cat Poole (social services and e-textiles). Holly Caughron (green marketing and values-based marketing) and many others will participate this time.
Many others, from UX consultants to sculptors, will be here. Come mentor and be mentored here! Free of charge.
The main questions about your vision: What are your underlying motives? What phrasing describes the reason why youâre doing this?
If related questions come up organically, weâll explore. These questions of vision are where groups like âCollective Agencyâ began.
In 2 hours we will meet-and-greet (go around and say what weâre working on and what weâd like to happen with it), have a brief overview, then invest most of the time in one-on-one coaching in 15 minute sessions.
Please RSVP. Plancast is best, so people can see you're coming. Email [email protected] or tweet @alexlinsker with any questions. |

Presented by Eric Migicovsky.
Hardware is hard. At least that's what people always say. Building a hardware startup requires a broad base of technical knowledge, from electronics and manufacturing experience to aesthetic and interface design. But Eric Migicovsky chose to start a hardware company after graduating from engineering because he wanted to see something he designed become a physical reality.
inPulse is a $150 hackable Bluetooth smartwatch. It connects to your smartphone and displays notifications like incoming emails, calls, and calendar alerts right on your wrist. After launching an SDK, 3rd party developers have started to create apps for inPulse.
In his talk, Eric will share some honest stories and anecdotes from various stages of product development. He'll also talk about the costs, timeframes and failure modes of hardware startups. |

Mathematics is a powerful language used in such popular applications as The Known Universe. However, the documentation is notoriously terse.
The Mathematics User Group (MUG) will serve the Portland tech community by bridging the gap between abstract mathematical language and concrete problems that programmers come across in the coding trenches.
This first session will be for coming up with topics of interest, and for working specific problems that come up in our projects. We hope to have future sessions each 3rd Wednesday. |

We're doing it again! Come join Portland's tech community and celebrate the closing of another year.
This is a fun, free annual event that members of many local user groups get together at to mingle, eat and play games. This is the fifth time the event's been held and it's been lots of fun every time.
This is a potluck, so please bring something yummy to share with others and, if possible, please label it for the sake of those with special dietary, e.g. "vegan", "vegetarian", gluten-free", etc.
Like games? Bring your favorite and play it with others.
