create Calagator::Event 1250462581 Inform 7 Interest Group Roll back

description nil This is the inaugural meeting of the PDX Inform 7 Interest Group. As our name implies, our principal interest is in the Interactive Fiction authoring language Inform 7. Inform 7 is designed to let anyone, programmer or no, write Interactive Fiction quickly and easily. You probably won't be surprised to learn that we are also interested in Interactive Fiction in general, in other Interactive Fiction authoring tools, and in most any related interesting topics. For our first meeting, I (Bart Massey) will lead a little bit of introductory discussion about Inform 7, and we'll make plans for future meetings and projects.

description nil Re-Thinking Business: Staying relevant in a new era. Engage or die. The social web has changed consumer expectations and empowered them with real-time information and a digital soapbox. They are your customers and your employees. In today’s noisy marketplace with low switching costs, they can leave you at any time. To stay competitive, companies must create a culture of respect and openness, build a strong brand, and emotionally engage their community. In the land of 'me too' companies what you stand for and how you interact is your differentiator.

update Calagator::Event 1250462498 OEN PubTalk™ - Eat, Drink and Start a Business Roll back

description Oregon continues to build on its reputation as the place to go for artisan beer, wine, and spirits. The July OEN Pubtalk™ features a panel of experts who are on the forefront of that movement and who know what it takes to build a successful brewery, winery, and distillery. Panelists include leadership from Ninkasi Brewing Company, Seven Bridges Winery, and Bull Run Distillery. Kerry Finsand, CEO of Taplister will be moderating. Come hear experienced entrepreneurs share their unique insights into developing quality products, arranging supply channels, and maneuvering regulatory requirements, among other topics. Speakers: Ninkasi Brewing Company – Nikos Ridge, President and CEO Ninkasi Brewing began on June 15th, 2006 when Jamie Floyd and Nikos Ridge spent 17 hours brewing their first batch of Total Domination IPA in leased space inside a German restaurant in Springfield, Oregon. Once a brewery, the building was equipped with a 15 barrel brew house set up for brewpub brewing. A year later, Ninkasi moved to its current location at 272 Van Buren Street, in the Whiteaker neighborhood of Eugene. The brewery now features a 50 barrel brewing system, and uses it to produce beer that is distributed throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, and San Francisco. The Ninkasi family of beers has grown from a single IPA (Total Domination) to include Tricerahops Double IPA, Believer Double Red, and Oatis Oatmeal Stout, as well as some popular seasonals: Spring Reign, Radiant Ale, and Sleigh'r Dark Double Alt. Bull Run Distilling Company – Lee Medoff, President and CEO Naturally pure water, the finest raw grains and sugar, precise barrel aging and an ideal blend of art and science. These are the elements that define Bull Run Distilling Company. Bull Run Distilling Company are producers of small-batch, crafted distilled Rum, Whiskey and an revolving collection of other unique spirits sold only at our distillery under our Temerance label. Bull Run Distilling Company (BRD) was founded by acclaimed Portland distiller, Lee Medoff, and business partner Patrick Bernards in the spring of 2010. What began as a "what if" conversation over cocktails a few years ago evolved into a full-on crusade in late 2009. Hundreds of hours, a few business plans and a couple of emptied bank accounts later Bull Run Distilling Company became a reality. Seven Bridges Winery – Kevin Ross, CEO Seven Bridges Winery is an urban winery in Portland Oregon founded in 2008. We make rich, big, Bordeaux-style reds from Washington State fruit. We started small, at just 350 cases, and have expanded production to approximately 1000 cases/year. Our focus is on making quality wine using traditional techniques. We self-distribute through our wine club, tasting room, and to a few local restaurants and wine shops. Moderator: Taplister – Kerry Finsand, Founder & CEO While working for Citysearch, Kerry Finsand caught the start-up bug and left to try something new. Over a 3 year span he worked as a marketing consultant at a variety of start up companies in the technology and hospitality industries. These opportunities lead him into a position in sales and eventually the creation and testing of a Community Manager role with Groupon. Along the way, Kerry has combined his passion for craft beer, technology and marketing into various beer related projects including Taplister.com a resource to help craft beer fans find their favorite beers on tap or to discover new ones. Now his full time role is CEO of Taplister where Kerry is working on creating a marketing platform for the craft beer industry. In his free time Kerry puts together beer events, blogs about beer and is a monthly regular on KXL's Beer O'Clock. When he is not working on Taplister you can find Kerry checking out some of the best craft beers in the world in Beervana aka Portland, Oregon. Member Special: Pre-Register and Save: OEN members can save by pre-registering online. Online registration for this event closes Wednesday, July 11th at 2:00 pm. create Calagator::Event 1250462572 PDMA Learning and Networking Event: Pricing and Pricing War Games Roll back

description nil Professionals in any industry work with tools as they set prices for their products or services: operating costs, ramp-up, S-curves, break-evens, ROI goals, and customer value. We understand the concepts and apply them carefully. How, then, do we end up fighting price wars, disappointing customers, and performing below goals? For a start, consider what’s missing in that list of tools: anything that takes competitive dynamics into account. That’s where war games and simulations come in, and that’s what we’ll see in action on July 26th. The Oregon Chapter of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) invites you to its July Learning and Networking Event. In this highly interactive and thought-provoking program, our experienced speaker will discuss and lead us through pricing decisions, pricing mistakes, and pricing war games. We will participate in simulations that shock, amuse, and enlighten as we ponder how to price effectively. **Acknowledgement** A special thanks to the Oregon Technology Business Center (OTBC) for hosting this event. **Speaker** Mark Chussil, Founder and CEO of Advanced Competitive Strategies. Mark has conducted hundreds of war games and worked with thousands of strategists in Fortune 500 companies on six continents and helped them make or save billions of dollars. He is a highly rated speaker who’s written three books, chapters for five others, and numerous articles. He also has earned a patent (another is pending) for simulation technology. A 35-year veteran in competitive strategy, Mark earned his MBA at Harvard and his BA at Yale. **Date, Time, and Pricing** Thursday, Jul 26, 2012 6:00-8:30 PM $20 on-line registration prior to the event $25 at the door A discount is available for PDMA members For more details on the event and the speakers and to register on-line, visit www.pdma.org/oregon ************ The Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) is the premier global advocate for product development and management professionals. The Oregon chapter's mission is to help local professionals and organizations to identify, develop, and launch more innovative and profitable products and services through cross-industry collaboration, thought leadership, and the sharing of best practices and practical knowledge. For more information about the Oregon Chapter of the PDMA, please contact: Miki Tokola, Chapter President [email protected] We encourage everyone in Oregon who is interested in the Product Development and Management Association to become a member of the National PDMA. description nil Online Startup Summer Camp for entrepreneurs is brought to you by OTBC, OEN, TiE, Startup Weekend, SAO, and OAF. This event is one of the (optional) weekly meetups. This summer, you can take your idea and go through the steps to launch your startup and build an investor pitch, while getting feedback and meeting lots of people. FORMAT: We'll post weekly online videos each of which covers a key task that's one aspect of preparing for an investor pitch. Week by week, you'll build a pitch deck, while developing and validating your business model. Participants can ask questions online. In fact, you can do the entire boot camp, online, on your schedule (we know schedules are a challenge during the summer).

description nil WhereCampPDX is a free, volunteer-created unconference for anyone interested in geography and technology. This year’s event will be happening October 12th-14th, with a full day of unconference sessions at Metro Regional Center on the 13th. An unconference is a conference planned by the participants. We convene together, plan sessions, and break-out into the proposed session discussions and activities. This gives everyone an opportunity to bring to the table the things that interest them the most, and talk about emerging topics that are still new and exploratory. We value open participation, providing access to new voices, and lowering barriers to participation. As a result, the event is driven by the interests and talents of the participants.

create Calagator::Event 1250462556 OpenSocial State Of The Union - 2012 Roll back

description nil This year's "State of the Union" event will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Jive offices in Portland, Oregon. It lines up with OSCON, the premier conference for open source technologies. We'll have discounted passes for the conference, so be sure to check out the OSCON site for all the detailed information about that event. If you just want to grab some swag, we'll also have "Expo Only" tickets as well. While past State of the Union events have been structured as a "mini conference", this year we've decided to take a different tact. The Foundation's primary goals are to enable our community in developing open standards and technology that advance the social Web and foster a vibrant, open ecosystem of social platforms and applications. This year's event will be a series of working sessions where we will focus on specific topics that, as a community, we need to address in the upcoming year. Each session will be moderated to keep us on track. The moderator will produce an "action plan" that we'll use to track our progress and measure our results. Changing an industry is never easy and, as always, there's plenty of work to do! Please come, roll up your sleeves, and join us for a great day of advancing the social Web.

Bring you Linux computer that is being a brat and we'll teach it some manners. Or bring your computer that has some evil operating system on it and we'll send it home with a shiny, clean Linux distro. Or just come and look over shoulders to see what Linux is all about. If you already know Linux well, the Clinic is also a good place to learn how to help users troubleshoot problems. It's excellent training for tech support work in Linux. We have monitors, mice, keyboards, and miscellanous other perifpherals, so generally all you need to bring is the box. There is also coffee and people usually bring munchies as well. After all, you can't computer on an empty tummy.
