description nil Ignite Portland is an exciting, fast-paced, night of presentations where people can share their passions and burning ideas. The rules are fairly simple: 20 sides x 15 seconds per slide (auto-advancing) = 5 minutes of awesome. Presentations can be on nearly any topic, so long as they can teach, enlighten, or inspire us.

create Calagator::Event 1250471021 Establishing Safety in Agile when the Stakes are High Roll back

description nil How do we make it safe to explore, fail, and grow when the stakes are high? In a world of high complexity & high cost tied to upcoming revenue forecasts, it’s difficult to allow the time we want & need to try new things, learn new skills, and evolve as a team. So, how do we allow time to fail & ultimately grow when the stakes are high? What have you tried that has succeeded? What have you tried that failed? Come share and discover some new ideas to help your teams balance time with business drivers to create success! As usual, we'll be in the back. We start at 12 and end at 1pm. Those who attend shape next month's topic.

update Calagator::Event 1250470996 Portland Python & PyLadies PDX Present Monthly Presentation Night Roll back

description # Come join us for out last Presentation Night of 2016! All levels are welcome! Talk levels vary from beginner to advanced. This month: * **Dockerizing Django** by Hannes Hapke & Michael Dougherty > Have you wondered what steps you would need to go through to convert your Django or Flask project to run nicely with Docker? > Over the last few weeks, Michael and Hannes went through the process of converting a production Django application including webpack builds, a redis/celery stack and postgres to a docker setup. Moving to an immutable infrastructure provided good support for a zero downtime setup and for standardizing the development environments as well as easy scaling. However, the transition also encountered challenges, which Hannes and Michael will address during their talk. If you are interested to learn about the process, the benefits and the pitfalls, join their talk about dockerizing Django. There should be time for lightning talks after the presentation. If you have something you want to share, come prepared to give a 5 minute talk. If you've never given a talk before, don't worry we have a [guide](https://github.com/portlandpython/project-night/blob/master/lightning-talks.md) We're still looking for a pizza sponsor. We organize into small teams to code up creative solutions to a common challenge, then after 3 hours of building, present to the group. This month, we'll be divide into teams and work together to create an Alexa app, which is both a lot of fun, and easier to plumb than you'd expect. create Calagator::Event 1250471014 Podcast Unconference Roll back

description nil The Portland Podcast Cooperative is hosting Portland’s first Podcast Unconference revolving around the theme of podcasting. Limited to the first 50 people The Event What you don’t need is another presentation, books, or itineraries planned months ahead of time. Instead, what we all really seek when coming to an event is personal value. The best and most meaningful memories come from when we walk away with thought provoking discussions, new relationships, and those do not happen while sitting in lecture. They happen in the discussions that go on amongst the attendees. The Goal The goal of this unconference is to bring forth the brightest minds in the community that feel strongly around the topic of podcasting in its many versions. Then from there, to open a new doorway for opportunities to connect and learn, all while having fun and making it what you want it to be. The Facilitator Megan O'Leary the Director of Member Services from OEN is going to facilitate the whole unconference event. A great experienced facilitator makes the event, so prepare yourself for a wonderful time. 9:00am-10:00am Coffee & networking 10:00-11:00am Overview and group agenda setting 11:00-11:45am Session 1 11:45am-12:30pm Session 2 12:30pm-1:30pm Lunch 1:30pm-2:15pm Session 3 2:15pm-3:30pm Session 4 3:30pm-4:00pm Closing remarks Lunch is included. Capiche. So, what exactly is an ‘Unconference?’ Think of this as an open conference that is driven by its participants. Unlike traditional conferences, an unconference allows for flexibility, open discussion, and debate, all fueled by its attendees. Innovative conversations with some of the brightest people, important purposes and tasks discussed without any formal agenda, and unplanned dialogue led by ultimately what peaks your interest most. Why attend? This is your chance to learn from others, seek out answers, and openly ask questions to what matters most to you. Come to build a collaborative network, establish partnerships, and be in a close community of people that value the same or similar topics of discussion. Open your awareness to new ideas for yourself or your business. Be exposed to new trends, latest issues, new projects, emerging businesses and tools.. Unconferences are proven to be highly productive for whatever issues people feel most strongly about. EXPECT fascinating questions, surprising results, inspiring quotes of laughter, and hard work. How Does it Work? Simple, we provide the theme — podcasting. When you arrive, we will kick off with an ice-breaker, introduce everyone, then break off into building the day's agenda around your needs, interests, and areas of expertise. The sessions will be broken up into 30-minute discussions and spaces are reserved for gatherings that happen throughout the day. Who should attend? If you took the time to read through all of this, then YOU! The event is open to anyone with an interest in the topic. The goal is to bring a diverse mix of individuals and professionals from all industries and stages of their podcast. Whether you’re a podcast producer, podcast talent, CEO, a startup founder, possible podcast maker with a new idea, or simply just have interest in the topic of podcasting, we welcome you to join us. All NedSpace events have a Code of Conduct which all participants, members, partners, visitors, vendors, guests must abide by. Organizers Megan O’Leary - OEN Director of Membership Services As Director of Membership Services, Megan manages recruitment, retention and educational programming for OEN’s statewide network. She is focused on providing an excellent and beneficial experience for members, connecting them to resources and building a strong and thriving community. create Calagator::Event 1250471010 Elixir Games PDX - Interproconal Communication Skills Roll back

description nil Elixir and Erlang make tremendous tools for integrating between different kinds of interfaces. In fact there's arguably no better system for quickly constructing reliable and fault-tolerant control planes available today. However, in order to do that in a rich ecosystem of technologies it is a requirement that we be able to interact with and orchestrate various kinds of external processes. So for this meetup session we're going to learn about exactly how to do that. For the newcomers, the "Games" format is designed to create a bit of friendly competition and is accessible for all ranges of experience; beginners and pros alike. If you'd like to take a look at the previous sessions' exercises feel free to check them out here: https://github.com/elixir-pdx/, some submitted solutions are available on non-master branches. Early in this series we'll be focusing mostly on solving problems in a functional paradigm, and as the series continues over time we'll move more and more toward Elixir's differentiators; Erlang interop, hygienic macros, & OTP patterns. If all that read like gibberish to you, don't worry you don't have to know any of that jargon, and by the time you do everything will already make sense. Because we'll introduce ideas and concepts in a way that will help you understand those things conceptually before you ever need a weird name for them. Food and drinks will be provided. Please make sure you come with a computer to work on and have Elixir pre-installed locally or in a VM and ready to go. http://elixir-lang.org/install.html Special thanks to our friends at Puppet, ‘the leader in IT automation’, for hosting us.

Get up early and work on your side projects with some like-minded geeks! TechCoffee is part running club, part knitting bee, and part hackathon. It's hard to work on all of your amazing ideas after a long workday, so instead we get up early. And we get together, so we have the reinforcement of other people up early, too. A couple hours a week can make a big difference. So bring your laptops and your work ethic to the 3rd weekly PDX TechCoffee. One commit a week is all we ask. NOTE: We've had some wifi problems in the past, so i recommend having what you need to work locally on your laptop before you come by.
