Learn to Code | Thinkful Portland - Build a Twitter Bot with JavaScript
Roll back
| description |

<p>Using JavaScript and Twitter's API we will create an "intelligent" bot. An easy and fun way to learn how JavaScript can be used to build real projects. Our bot will search for tweets mentioning different keywords and reply to them with a pre-defined answer.</p> <p>This workshop won't be a step-by-step JavaScript introduction. Instead we will build something useful and fun, while learning some basic JavaScript concepts along the way.</p> <p><a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/build-a-twitter-bot-with-javascript-tickets-37070528950?aff=meetup">Must RSVP on Eventbrite here.</a></p> <p>Before you come: Experience with JavaScript is ideal. Be sure to bring a laptop. If you don’t have one, we can pair you with someone who does. Also make sure to make a Twitter account if you don't already have one.</p> <p>How to find us: Entrance on NW Everett between 13th & 14th. Free Street Parking available after 6pm. City Center & Brewery Blocks parking grages & lots available. TriMet Stops on NW 10th, 11th, 14th, Everett, Glisan, and Couch</p> <p><img src="https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/2/3/3/600_463756947.jpeg"></p> |

Data Scientists,
Did you know MongoDB is the most popular NoSQL database? How interested would it be if you could see it on a Raspberry Pi? We'll also have more research prepared on a SQL challenge for the group.
At the end of the session, we'll brainstorm a new interesting topic for the following week presentation. The winning idea will get the innovator of the week.
Join the fun!

| description |
Join us for the October meeting of PdxDevOps.
Agenda:
Speakers: TBH
pdxdevops is a Portland, Oregon user group that explores the glorious intersection of software development and systems operations, and shares practical advice on working effectively in an era of agile infrastructure, server automation and cloud computing. The group welcomes participants interested in any related products, technologies and methodologies. The group has been meeting regularly since August 2010 for presentations, demos and discussions applicable to all skill levels, from newbies and experts. Every month 15-35 people come together to share their knowledge, projects and enthusiasm for devops – join us! |

THIS MONTH:
Disposable Infrastructure: you only build me up to tear me down
Paige will introduce the idea of disposable infrastructure, the tools she and her team chose to use for provisioning (Terraform) and configuration management (Ansible) and a walk through of solution they built.
(As seen at DevOpsDays Portland 2017!)
Speaker bio:
Paige Bernier is passionate about efficiency and building great systems that work. Outside of tech she loves all things crafty and cute. Please send her your best cat photos.
TBD (topic: reliable backups)
Speaker bio:
Rachel Kelly is a Devops Engineer for a small healthcare tech company in town and would argue versus the folks that like to say "mleh, devops engineers don't exist!" Her first love is Python and she chaired PyDX, a local Python conference, for a couple years, and was also part of the organizing team for PDX PyLadies for several years. Recently, she's "recovering" from having taught intro to programming at Portland State for a term. If you want to keep up with what Rachel's doing, please give a follow to @wholemilk on Twitter, which is where she mostly lives, these days.

Who are we? We are entrepreneurs, full stack engineers, hackers, continuous learners, but above all, we are a group that loves to work hard and play harder. We organize a variety of content types, and the organizing team believes in delivering the best value for time invested in our events. Companies have launched, founders paired, code taken apart, lessons learned, and more. We are not the typical meetup where a teacher like presenter stands in front of the class and delivers their message. We are a full hands on interactive experience and meetings are successful from the cumulative knowledge and expertise of all members.
Join us for something different.
Join us to learn.
Let’s have fun building our dreams.

<p>***Registration through <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdx-wit-happy-hour-at-airbnb-tickets-37106345077">Eventbrite</a> is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event***</p>
<p>Join us for happy hour at <a href="http://www.airbnb.com">Airbnb</a> on September 19th.</p>
PDXWIT exists as a way to encourage, support and empower women in the Portland tech community. One way to feel empowered is to get comfortable being brave and bold. This is so important that we’ve made it the theme of this event. The conversation starter “Which country would you move to tomorrow if you knew you had a job there?” will give you a chance to engage in a thought experiment wherein you take a huge personal leap.
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community.
<p>᛫ Introduction to Airbnb, including what they do and what job opportunities are available.</p>
<p>᛫ Deena Anreise, Senior Marketing Manager at Prialto, will tell us how to use your gut to make a major career change.</p>
<p>᛫ Kathy Lee, Software Developer, will talk about why she started speaking publicly and why you should, too.</p>
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
<p>᛫ An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.</p>
᛫ Table Topics to help break the ice.
᛫ A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.
<p>Event FAQ</p>
<p>Q: What is the parking situation? </p>

<p>Q: Is there secure bike parking?</p>

<p>Q: What I can expect of check-in?</p>

PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events. |

Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events. |

***Registration through Eventbrite is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event***
Join us for happy hour at airbnb on September 19th.
᛫ Introduction to airbnb, including what they do and what job opportunities are available.
᛫ Deena Anreise, Senior Marketing Manager at Prialto, will tell us how to use your gut to make a major career change.
᛫ Kathy Lee, Software Developer, will talk about why she started speaking publicly and why you should, too.
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
᛫ An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
᛫ Table Topics to help break the ice.
᛫ A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.
