- Event is on the second floor. Elevator is available.

- We'll have donuts! We have donuts for omnivores from Delicious Donuts and combination gluten-free-vegan donuts from Back to Eden Bakery.

While the only way to completely eliminate the debt is to never write any code, there are steps that we as engineers, project managers, and project stakeholders can take to mitigate our risk.</p> <p>This talk covers the concept of technical debt, its potential to devastate projects, and red flags that project teams can look for to reduce its impact before it spirals out of control.</p> <p>--------------------------------------------------------------</p> <p>Steve Grunwell is a Senior Software Engineer at Liquid Web. When it comes to your business, your network is the gateway to the world. Unfortunately, protecting your network from evolving threats is more difficult than ever. Device proliferation, BYOD, Internet of Things, virtualization, hybrid cloud adoption—all are crucial trends that enhance business performance. But they also add complexity and increase the attack surface. DNS is an essential component of network connectivity, but it has emerged as the number one threat vector for malware command and control, DDoS attacks, and data exfiltration. Even as your network modernizes and gains valuable new capabilities, threats multiply exponentially. During this session, learn more about DNS, threats to DNS infrastructure, and different methods to address these threats.
Speaker bio:
Kevin Zettel is a security-focused Technical Marketing Engineer who works with Infoblox to lock down the DNS and secure it for enterprises. Kevin knows that security is the center focus of companies and believes that without security, industries will unquestionably fall apart. Kevin has worked with the Infoblox Security Ecosystem to manage many security vendors such as McAfee, Cisco, ServiceNow, Aruba, and many others. He knows the security landscape and sees the necessity and demand that businesses have to secure their capital. We all know that the professional world can have its challenges. The good news is that the challenges we face at work can often support our growth and development. This month we are reflecting on personal growth from professional challenges. To facilitate this discussion our conversation starter will be: How have you grown from a past or current professional challenge?
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community.

PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Large enterprises and service providers are using it at massive production scale, and this meetup offers some tips, insights, and "don't go theres" from users with success stories (and some battle scars).
Come to this meetup to learn how users are deploying Tungsten Fabric for load balancing, HA, service chaining, analytics/orchestration and extending network to multi private / public clouds viz., AWS, Azure and Google.
Sanju Abraham will be our speaker. Sanju Abraham will deliver a project overview, showcase users and use cases. Then, we’ll dive into a demo of Kubernetes with Tungsten Fabric across onprem and AWS. We’ll demonstrate the ability to access Kubernetes and launch new containers, access the Tungsten Fabric UI, and observe the network state.
Tungsten Fabric is integrated with Kubernetes, VMware and OpenStack. It also supports public cloud deployments including AWS, Google and Azure. As both Enterprise and Telco IT architectures evolve, supporting multi-cloud environments is table stakes. This meetup will lay out how users can quickly get going with Tungsten Fabric, using software-driven networking and policy management to operate in a multi-cloud environment.

PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) Value by Design

While many of us agree with IBM CEO Thomas Watson Jr.’s famous declaration that “good design is good business,” we often struggle to be able to prove it. As a systems thinker, Deb Mrazek has developed an array of frameworks, tools, and platforms to leverage the power of design and systems thinking at project, group, organizational and global levels, bridging the language of design and the language of business. She has authored and presented on the topic of Design Value for over 10 years, including co-authoring the seminal article “The DMI Design Value Scorecard: A New Design Measurement and Management Model.” In 2015, she was recognized by the Design Management Institute for her contributions to the design industry about Design Value. In 2017, Deb co-founded Curiate.co to help people cultivate the quality, profile and value of design in their organizations through workshops, embedded consulting and tailored coaching. She believes that only by bridging the language and thinking of business and design can the true value of design truly be realized.

Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms?
A: Yes.
Q: Is the space ADA accessible?
A: Yes.
Q: Will there be food and drink at this event?
A: Yes.
Q: What is the parking situation?
A: We do have paid parking in the building, the entrance is on Taylor St. between 6th Ave and Broadway on the right side of the street. There are several other pay garages nearby as well.
Q: Is there any special information that might help me find the entrance?
A: The main entrance to the building is on 6th Ave and there is a secondary entrance on Broadway to the left of Ruth’s Chris Steak House (this entrance does have stairs once you are inside the building). All guests will need to come to the 8th floor reception area to sign in for the event.
Q: Is there secure bike parking?
A: There is bike parking outside at the entrance of the building, but it is not secured, it is a rack on the transit mall. Please note that bikes can not be brought into the office for storage.
Q: Should I consider using public transportation?
A: We always recommend public transportation when possible as we are on the transit mall on 6th Ave.
Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: No, we ask that you leave your furry friend home.

Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
