update Calagator::Event 1250472065 Women + Tech Third Annual Summer Soirée Roll back

description **Please RSVP on Eventbrite** Join us for our third annual summer soiree in partnership withWomen Who Code, Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, Girls Inc. hosted by Cambia! Portland often prides itself on being inclusive, and the tech scene is no exception. We think of ourselves as being the welcoming tech city and congratulate ourselves for our diversity pledges. We read stories and articles on our feeds depicting the inequities — and sometimes monstrosities — our neighbors to the south, in Silicon Valley, face. We feel thankful those thingsdon’t happen here. Unfortunately, those things *do* happen here, often in the shadows, but those involved don’t know whom to tell or where to go. At this year’s summer soiree, our theme is dedicated to openly discussing how we can change the Portland tech culture to be more inclusive, moving away from the bro-culture, and discussing how this community and our allies can work together to make the Portland tech scene a more welcoming place for all. Our conversation starter is “Which label is the least helpful in tech? (e.g. bro-grammer, lady-boss, man-splainer, etc...).” The summer soiree is a mixture of networking and speaking segments, and we will be joined by a diverse group of panelists who will share their stories and insights, leaving us with ideas and next steps to strive for the change we desire: • Moderator: Terra Soma, Senior Organizational Development and Change Consultant at Legacy Health • Lori DeLone, CIO Health Plans at Cambia • Ryan Carson, CEO Treehouse • Deena Pierott, Founder iUrbanTeen and Black Women in Tech Advisory Board member • Katharine Nester, Chief Product and Technology Office Ruby Receptionists During the event, we’ll have an Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. About Cambia Health Solutions Cambia Health Solutions, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is dedicated to transforming health care. Our company reaches more than 70 million Americans nationwide, including more than two million people in the Pacific Northwest who are enrolled in our regional health plans. PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events. **Please RSVP on Eventbrite** Join us for our third annual summer soiree in partnership with Women Who Code, Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, PyLadies PDX, Girls Inc. hosted by Cambia! description nil
A serverless approach to computing is one where services required to run a system are managed and automated. Developers don’t need to worry about running server instances and you pay only for the time code is actually executing, instead of servers hosted by the hour. Learn how to build .NET based serverless applications with Amazon Web Services (AWS). We’ll build an ASP.NET Core API and deploy it to AWS’s function as a service, Lambda and API Gateway. Then we'll deploy a single page application (SPA) with AngularJS using AWS’s storage service, S3 and content delivery network, CloudFront. This entire serverless application will be built, deployed and ready to serve at scale during the demo.

description nil Many of us live and/or work this side of the West Hills but may not have a professional community convenient to the area. Thanks to PDXWIT’s and Intel's support, let’s get together to talk tech. Event co-organizer Rose Flores Medlock will speak about the value she’s derived from attending recent conferences and offer suggestions for cultivating professional development. Anyone who works or is interested in tech is invited to join for casual conversation about the role professional development opportunities (conferences, workshops, webinars, classes, etc.) have played in your career. Think of topics you’ve learned about recently or find most interesting and contribute to the discussion! Agenda:
5:30 pm - Doors open
6:00 pm - Introductions + Lightning Talks
6:30 pm - Networking PDXWIT Purpose:
PDXWIT Westside Happy Hour is a satellite event series launched in mid-2017 to serve the tech community in/near the West Hills, SW Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, and Tualatin. It will become quarterly beginning with the December 2017 gathering.
