A: Yes Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. The best and most meaningful memories come from when we walk away with thought provoking discussions, new relationships, and those do not happen while sitting in lecture. They happen in the discussions that go on amongst the attendees. The Goal The goal of this unconference is to bring forth the brightest minds in the community that feel strongly around the topic of podcasting in its many versions. Then from there, to open a new doorway for opportunities to connect and learn, all while having fun and making it what you want it to be. The Facilitator Megan O'Leary the Director of Member Services from OEN is going to facilitate the whole unconference event. A great experienced facilitator makes the event, so prepare yourself for a wonderful time. 9:30-10:00am Overview and group agenda setting 10:00-10:45am Session 1 10:45am-11:30pm Session 2 11:30pm-12:15pm Session 3 12:15-1:00pm LUNCH 1:00pm-1:45pm Session 4 1:45pm-2:30pm Session 5 2:30pm-3:00pm Closing remarks Lunch is included. Capiche. So, what exactly is an ‘Unconference?’ Think of this as an open conference that is driven by its participants. Unlike traditional conferences, an unconference (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference) allows for flexibility, open discussion, and debate, all fueled by its attendees. Innovative conversations with some of the brightest people, important purposes and tasks discussed without any formal agenda, and unplanned dialogue led by ultimately what peaks your interest most. Why attend? This is your chance to learn from others, seek out answers, and openly ask questions to what matters most to you. Come to build a collaborative network, establish partnerships, and be in a close community of people that value the same or similar topics of discussion. Open your awareness to new ideas for yourself or your business. Be exposed to new trends, latest issues, new projects, emerging businesses and tools.. Unconferences are proven to be highly productive for whatever issues people feel most strongly about. EXPECT fascinating questions, surprising results, inspiring quotes of laughter, and hard work. How Does it Work? Simple, we provide the theme — podcasting. When you arrive, we will kick off with an ice-breaker, introduce everyone, then break off into building the day's agenda around your needs, interests, and areas of expertise. The sessions will be broken up into 45-minute discussions and spaces are reserved for gatherings that happen throughout the day. Who should attend? If you took the time to read through all of this, then YOU! The event is open to anyone with an interest in the topic. The goal is to bring a diverse mix of individuals and professionals from all industries and stages of their podcast. Whether you’re a podcast producer, podcast talent, CEO, a startup founder, possible podcast maker with a new idea, or simply just have interest in the topic of podcasting, we welcome you to join us. All NedSpace events have a Code of Conduct which all participants, members, partners, visitors, vendors, guests must abide by. update Calagator::Event 1250472491 PDXWIT Immerse Yourself in Virtual Reality Roll back

description Are you looking for an event to get better acquainted with Virtual Reality? In partnership with Joshua Alan Young from the Portland VR Meetup, co-organizers Judy Fischbach and Marguerite Gallagher invite you to come learn what Virtual Reality offers and to understand why there is so much trending interest. An emerging technology that is expected to impact many fields, including entertainment, journalism, education, and health care, VR/AR has been identified by the Technology Association of Oregon as one of top areas of technology growth in our state. The community in Portland is gaining momentum. It's an exciting time for many of us to jump in as the technology is so new. The playing field is more level and there is much interest beyond non-technology in areas such as the arts and education. The integrative nature of creating applications in VR can be unique and fun! Don’t know where to begin? We will have an overview, hands-on opportunities to experience the technology, and information on tools and resources. Our panel will include speakers from the community on VR education and on companies/projects with promising VR related work which demonstrates the variety of exciting applications. Bring your questions! We promise this will be a fun and memorable evening as we explore ways to grow community together in this fascinating new area of technology!

Agenda:
5:30 - 6:30 : Networking / Trials-Demos / Vendors
6:30 - 6:45 : Welcome and Overview
6:45 - 7:45 : Guest Speakers
7:45 - 8:15 : Networking

Event FAQ
Q: What is the parking situation?
A: Public parking and street parking is available (though we cannot validate parking).
Q: Is there secured bike parking?
A: There is an open bike room, but please bring locks as it is in a common space.
Q: Should I consider using public transportation?
A: We always recommend public transportation as a way to cut down on Co2, and there is plenty of public transportation nearby.

Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization.
