create Calagator::Event 1250475928 PIE + Portland startup community - PIE turns 10 🎂 Roll back

description nil <p>Hard to believe, but it's been a decade of experimentation around how established organizations — like corporations, government, and educational institutions — can better collaborate with the Portland startup community for mutual benefit.</p> <p>That's right. PIE is turning 10 years old in August 2019. So it seemed like a good time for a party. And our generous sponsors Autodesk (<a href="https://autodesk.com/" class="linkified">https://autodesk.com/</a>) and SKB (<a href="https://skbcos.com/" class="linkified">https://skbcos.com/</a>) volunteered to help us make it happen.</p> <p>Join PIE, PIE Shop, our alums, our mentors, and the entire Portland startup community to celebrate this milestone. As part of the celebration, we'll be happy to feed you and provide you with a beverage or two. And there will likely be some PIE giveaways, as well.</p> <p>NOTE: This is a family friendly event, so feel free to bring the kids.</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250475924 Galois Tech Talk – Cellularization: A Game Theoretic Perspective Roll back

description nil Abstract: My talk will present a distributed secure architecture for “cellularization,” a process in which utilities of the players are aligned by credible/non-credible threats. The proposed solution relies on a novel decentralized permissionless cyber-physical architecture that enables players to participate in Information-Asymmetric (Signaling) games, where deception is tamed by costly signaling, formal verification and zero-knowledge cryptography. The signaling, in order to remain honest (e.g., separating), may also involve asymmetric cryptography, crypto-tokens and distributed ledgers. Here, we will present a rough sketch of the architecture and the protocols it involves. Mathematical and computational analyses will appear in a companion paper. Speaker: Professor Bud Mishra, Courant Institute Bio: Professor Bud Mishra: An educator, an inventor as well as a mentor to technologists, entrepreneurs and scientists. Prof. Mishra founded the NYU/Courant Bioinformatics Group, a multi-disciplinary group working on research at the interface of computer science, applied mathematics, biology, biomedicine and bio/nano-technologies as well as Tandon-Online program on Bioinformatics Engineering. Prof. Mishra has industrial experience in Computer and Data Science (aiNexusLab, ATTAP, behold.ai, brainiad, Genesis Media, Pypestream, and Tartan Laboratories), Finance (Instadat, Pattern Recognition Fund, Prospero.ai and Tudor Investment), Robotics and Bio- and Nanotechnologies (Abraxis, Bioarrays, InSilico, MRTech, OpGen and Seqster). He is the author of a textbook on algorithmic algebra and more than two hundred archived publications. He has advised and mentored more than 35 graduate students and post-docs in the areas of computer science, robotics and control engineering, applied mathematics, finance, biology and medicine. He holds 23 issued and 21 pending patents in areas ranging over robotics, model checking, intrusion detection, cyber security, emergency response, disaster management, data analysis, biotechnology, nanotechnology, genome mapping and sequencing, mutation calling, cancer biology, fintech, adtech, internet architecture and linguistics. Prof. Mishra’s pioneering work includes: first application of model checking to hardware verification; first robotics technologies for grasping, reactive grippers and work holding; first single molecule genotype/haplotype mapping technology (Optical Mapping); first analysis of copy number variants with a segmentation algorithm, first whole-genome haplotype assembly technology (SUTTA), first clinical-genomic variant/base calling technology (TotalRecaller), first single-molecule single cell nanomapping technology, first non-invasive liquid-biopsy technology, etc. Prof. Mishra is currently a professor of computer science and mathematics at NYU’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, professor of engineering at NYUs Tandon School of engineering, professor of human genetics at MSSM Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, visiting scholar in quantitative biology at CSHL Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and a professor of cell biology at NYU SoM School of Medicine. In the tech industry, companies often tout all the “fun” benefits they offer to employees, but do those perks really matter to everyone? Yes, ping pong can be entertaining for a few minutes, and kombucha is great for your gut, but are these the types of benefits that make workspaces desirable for everyone? Let’s talk about it! This month’s theme will be: “Functional workspaces: from behavior to the needs of parents,” and to help get the networking flowing we will be using the conversation prompt: What’s something you need to make your workspace functional? While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 p.m. to share important announcements and showcase three members of our community. A representative from our host company AltSource will share what they do and what job opportunities are available at the company Kristy LaFollette, Healthy Workplace Advocate at Health Equity Partners, will give the following lightning talk: Beyond Beer and Corn Hole: Workplace Change for Families Torri Wright, Founder and CEO at Wright Behavior, will talk about Decoding The Language of Behavior During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking: An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. Table Topics to help break the ice. create Calagator::Event 1250475911 AgilePDX User Group - Portland Metro - Downtown Pub Lunch: Promoting honesty and public discourse within companies Roll back

description nil <p>As agile practitioners our role is to encourage individuals and organizations to practice the values of transparency and communication. In our journeys we may find that honesty, integrity and transparency are easier to do through conversations with individuals rather than open dialogue across organizational units. We need to find tools and techniques to live into these values and inspire leaders on how to manifest honesty and openness in every conversation not just the individual ones.</p> <p>Come together and discuss this topic with us at Ringlers Pub on Friday the 2nd of August. We want to know your experience. We want to learn from each other and build our community of practice. We want a chance to discover what we have not seen or gain a new perspective.</p> <p>You can find us in the back under the Crystal Ballroom, ask for the Agile PDX group and you will find us over yummy food and drinks.</p> <p>Events are made possible by the AgilePDX community and our sponsors, including platinum sponsor ProFocus Technology (<a href="https://www.profocustechnology.com/" class="linkified">https://www.profocustechnology.com/</a>). Learn more about our sponsors at <a href="https://agilepdx.org/sponsorship" class="linkified">https://agilepdx.org/sponsorship</a>.</p> <p>** Additional Information: **<br>Q: Is the space ADA accessible?<br>A: Yes, McMenamins Ringlers Pub is ADA accessible. Please note, doors are manual but the staff is available to assist should you require assistance.</p> <p>Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms?<br>A: McMenamins Ringlers Pub restrooms are designated Men and Women. There are no unisex/family/gender neutral restrooms at this location.</p> <p>Q: Will there be food and drinks at this event?<br>A: Food & Drink (including alcohol) is available to purchase, and we have table service. Standard pub fare & pub prices. For public transportation options, please visit <a href="https://trimet.org/" class="linkified">https://trimet.org/</a> to plan your trip to Ringlers at 1332 W Burnside Street in Downtown Portland.</p> <p>Q: How do I enter the building?<br>A: We are in the side room under the Crystal Ballroom. You can use the entrance on the corner of Burnside & 14th. Let yourself in, and find us at the large table.</p>

Though the overall focus will be on Box, we will touch on other subjects like generics, trait bounds, iterators, enums, structs, and more. Bring a laptop and join us for this beginner-friendly follow-along-style presentation with live coding. All are welcome. It will be “heaps” of fun! Erik Nordin is a CS student at Portland State University (PSU). He is finishing his last two school terms and graduating with a B.S. in Computer Science this December. Erik first started programming in Rust exactly one year ago when he took Bart Massey’s summer Rust course at PSU.
