In that role, she gets to work with WordCamps and their organizers from around the world, every day. create Calagator::Event 1250476967 PDXWIT Online: Experienced Women in Tech - Extreme Makeover: Story Edition Roll back

description nil ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/102140689552} is required to gain entry to this event *** Are you a woman with 15 or more years of experience working in technology? Do you want to spend time with other women in tech who understand your point of view as someone who has been in this industry for a while? PDXWIT’s Experienced Women in Tech events work to foster a community for women like you. We tell stories all the time: to persuade someone to support our idea, to explain to an employee how they might improve, or to inspire a team that is facing challenges. It’s an essential skill. But what makes a compelling story? And how can you improve your ability to tell stories that persuade? Learn techniques to use in an interview when you want to convey your experience in a compelling and interesting way. Tell a story to generate the attention you need to move a project forward. On May 21st, join PDXWIT and host Edgelink for an entertaining and practical event where you will learn: Why storytelling is such an important skill How to use common narrative structures to make your stories more memorable and effective How to apply these techniques to your own stories Bring a story of your own (factual or fictional); you will have a chance to give it a makeover, and to learn from others as they do the same. The evening will involve a story about storytelling, and then we'll break out into small groups and rewrite the story you brought with you — or write one while you're there. We'll reconvene with a few examples of your story makeover and hear how you used a new framework to enhance your story. Phil Weber, a professional trainer, fantastic storyteller and local musician will coach us on techniques that can transform the way we tell a tale. Agenda: 5:30 p.m. - Webinar open /networking 6:00 p.m. - PDXWIT Introductions and Announcements 6:15 p.m. - Host welcome 6:30 p.m. - Presentation/Panel Begins 7:00 p.m. - More networking 7:30 p.m. - Event Ends Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

create Calagator::Event 1250476964 Remote Open Source Contribution Night - Project & Issue Searching Roll back

description nil Have a free night on Wednesday? Why not use it to contribute to an open source project? With the (you-know-the-reason) forcing events to cancel, join us as we collaborate on an open source project. This first session will be mainly a discussion as we hunt for a good project to take a look at--perhaps something people find useful and necessary but in desperate need of fixing. Once we do we'll crawl the issues list to find one that would be a good collaboration issue. The next sessions we'll assign roles and design a solution.

create Calagator::Event 1250476963 A Complete Walkthrough: Setting Up Facebook Ads with Shopify Roll back

description nil ***Registration through Zoom https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_gjNoDEEqS56rQ3eGTx3GVg is required to gain entry to this event *** Are you interested in generating more traffic and sales for your Shopify store during these challenging times? You’ve probably heard that now is a great time to reach your potential customers with social advertising, with more people at home and using social media than ever before (Facebook is reporting a 70% usage increase!) But if you haven’t run social ads before, or have tried but hit roadblocks, you might be hesitant to get started. We’ll walk you through each step of the building and launching a best-practice social advertising campaign for your Shopify store with expert guidance from Brett Fish, Founder, and Principal at SCOPO Marketing, a Facebook Marketing Partner agency. In this comprehensive walk-through, Brett will show you how to structure your campaigns, build targeted audiences, and create effective ads that connect with your customers and drive more traffic and sales for your store. ***One note - prior to the meetup (and ASAP) you'll need to create and have a Facebook Business Manager account in place (which you can do by going to https://business.facebook.com/ and following the steps, or following this help article https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1612355968988019). We’ll be walking through the Business Manager, and often Facebook won’t allow you to take certain steps unless you have an existing account for at least a few days. Brett is the Founder and Principal at SCOPO Marketing, a Facebook Agency Partner and Facebook Marketing Partner for Technical Services that helps businesses generate more awareness, engagement, and revenue with targeted social media advertising. A Facebook-Certified professional, he has developed social marketing and advertising strategies that have generated millions of dollars in new revenue for his clients like Lucky Brand Clothing, Pieology Pizzeria, and La Colombe Coffee.

update Calagator::Event 1250476950 POSTPONED TO APR 7 - Agile Fluency® Game night Roll back

description *Postponed to April 7 due to Coronavirus concerns. Doublecheck on April 7 in case it's postponed further.* Come play the Agile Fluency Game! You’ll gain new insights into the benefits and trade-offs of adopting agile practices—and you’ll have a great time doing it. The Agile Fluency Game authentically simulates 2½ years on a software development team. It was developed so experiments in the game lead to new insights about your real-world options. As you play the game, you’ll make decisions about which agile practices to adopt. Of course, you have to deliver features, too! Or what’s the point? This is a great experience for agile team members interested in learning more about their options; managers and leaders wanting to better understand agile development; and people who enjoy modern board games such as Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride. *“Saved us money on our agile transition effort by getting a preview in 90 minutes!”* —Director, Agile Center of Excellence *“Makes the need for best practices come to life.”* —Manager *“Played first game and beautifully painted ourselves into a corner through the same mistakes real teams make. How’d that happen? Powerful teaching.”* —Senior Learning & Development Manager *“[Our leadership team] experienced 20 years of agile learning in 4 hours!”* —Director, R & D *“The shift from playing the game gave new focus to our discussion of leadership challenges.”* —VP, Product Management Doors open at 6pm. We’ll start playing at 6:30. Be sure to arrive before then: the building is secured at 6:30 and no further entry is allowed. To learn more about the game, visit https://www.agilefluency.org/game.php. CORONAVIRUS NOTE: We've been asked if we still plan to hold this event given the concerns about Coronavirus. We DO plan to hold the event, with the following precautions: * Attendance is limited to 16 people. If you bring food, we have a separate dining area where you can eat. * Hand sanitizer and tissues will be available. update Calagator::Event 1250476956 Women Who Code Portland - Working Remote and Creating Community Roll back

description Panel and Discussion on Working Remote and Creating Community As the COVID-19 situation evolves, many of our offices have issued voluntary, recommended, or mandatory work-from-home guidance. While some of us already work from home and some of us are new to it, we are all adjusting to new situations with partners, kids, pets and housemates. We are also readjusting to a new way of socialization with virtual coffees and happy hours. Our panel will discuss their tactics for working at home or remotely. We will talk about how we have adjusted schedules and environments to accommodate kids and other folks at home with us. Then we will discuss ideas on how to create community and stay connected while practicing social distancing. We will then open it up for Q&A and discussion. We also want to hear from you, since this is a new situation for all of us and none of us have all the answers.
