Saturday Morning @ Sisters Coffee : Pearl District Hackers
Roll back
| description |
This meeting is for fellow coders, hackers, and designers to get together on a weekly/bi-weekly basis to work on their projects side by side with others in the community over a few cups of coffee. These meetups will not be a presentation based format, rather, the vision is a small table in a great coffee shop in the pearl packed with laptops, writing code, formatting comps, but most importantly getting shit done. No sales people or recruiters! All languages welcome.
Meet @ the table upstairs. |
→ |
As an alternative to our regular community events at local bars, this meeting is for coders and designers, all skill levels, to get together, share a cup of coffee and get some work done. Just a small table in a great coffee shop in the Pearl packed with laptops, writing code, formatting comps, but most importantly getting shit done.
Grab a cup of coffee and meet @ the table upstairs.

Come have a beer and (if you want to) compete in the Ping-Pong Tournament:
June 5th Tech+Pong tournament with two brackets:
1) The Best of the Best (for pongers who can smash, hit, and rock their way through a pong game).
2) The Best of the Worst (for rookie pongers who just want to have fun and the thought of "spinning a slice shot" seems like something having to do with a pizza parlor).
More details can be found here:
http://www.meetup.com/PDX-Tech-Pong/events/111321222/
Do you work for a tech company in any way, shape, or form (developer, marketing, design, admin, tech student, etc.)? Do you want to be more involved in the Portland tech community? Come by and play some Ping-Pong! Or, just come by for some good conversation and a beer. Headbands, wristbands, and other such attire are encouraged.
This event is free but please RSVP so we get a head count: http://www.meetup.com/PDX-Tech-Pong/events/111321222/

Innovation in Motion: Nerds Rule - A Showcase of Tech Innovation
Roll back
| description |
âWhere should innovation start?â
The majority of business leaders do not recognize the value of IT in innovation.... Meanwhile, leading companies make use of technology trends, including cloud computing, big data, social, and mobile. How does development, design and marketing influence the maturity of innovation? How does one area influence the other two and where do great ideas begin?
Join us as we walk through a number of innovative case studies of innovation. Some started with design, moved to development and were later marketed to the masses. Others started with development and marketing, leaving design as an afterthought. The products are interesting, and the individual approaches are fascinating. |

Our first meeting is a no-host happy hour event, with an open discussion on what to do next plus lots of opportunities to connect.
PLEASE INVITE OTHERS: this event is open to PDX-based women founders as well as aspiring entrepreneurs, so do spread the word & bring friends. Looking forward to seeing you all at our first event! |

At our first meeting, we're looking for your inputs on how we might structure our gathering — and most importantly, what kind of activities & events would most benefit you professionally. Let's put our heads together and leverage this powerful network to grow our respective businesses and capabilities.

Hardware Security's Hierarchy of Attacks
Roll back
| description |
Presented by Joe FitzPatrick.
Generally, there is a very low barrier to entry when it comes to software or network-based attacks due to the fact that actual costs are minimal and most resources are readily available. This does mean that it's generally much easier to attack the software of a system than the hardware, but unfortunately that also leads to overconfidence in, as well as misplaced trust in hardware.
There is a clear 'hierarchy of attacks' in the hardware world. There are costs, often significant, involved in acquiring your hardware 'target' which might be damaged or destroyed in the process. There are a number of useful tools that cost anywhere from a few dollars to a few million dollars. I'll give a couple examples of what's possible within budgets of $100, $10,000, and $1,000,000. I'll point out how many capabilities are much more accessible than most assume, and how vulnerable to sub-$100 attacks most of our 'secure' hardware really is. |

I actually like what you've received here, certainly like what you are stating and the way during which you are saying it. You make it entertaining and you still take care of to keep it smart. I can not wait to learn much more from you. This is really a tremendous web site.

Join us at the 12th Beaver BarCamp hosted by the OSU Open Source Lab. BBC is a semi-annual interactive unconference where the attendees determine the topics! It's an opportunity to share your experiences and learn about what other people are doing on campus and in the community.
Topics can range from technical to recreational. Share your love for programming or teach people how to whistle (already been done!). All you need to do is show up and sign up to host a session. Or you can just attend! We'll have refreshments throughout the day and a limited amount of t-shirts. |

The new [PDX Git Together](https://twitter.com/pdxgit) is fast-forwarding into the future!
We have a new regular venue at Elemental Technologies and there will be food provided by Puppet Labs for those that profess a boundless love for directed acyclic graphs.
Remember to thank Puppet Labs for the food!
The following people will be presenting:
[Jonathan "Duke" Leto](http://duke.leto.net) will present on the [.gitconfig](https://gist.github.com/igal/3495650) of [@igalko](http://koshevoy.net) . In particular, Duke will describe why Igal's .gitconfig was so amazing, as well as comparing it to the Duke's own [.gitconfig](https://github.com/leto/Util/blob/master/config/.gitconfig) for maximal DAG-induced enlightment.
[@bak](https://github.com/bak) will be presenting about the [git code-review](https://github.com/jsuder/git-code-review) utility and how it can do so much in so few lines of code.
There is usually an informal "drinkup" after the meeting at Baileys Tap Room downstairs. If you are headed to the meeting late, we may have migrated there.
Would you like to present at a future PDX Git Together? Send an email to the [pdxgit](http://groups.google.com/group/pdxgit) mailing list and/or contact Duke at [email protected] .
Would you like to sponsor food or other stuff for future PDX Git Togethers? Contact Duke at [email protected] . |
