[Free] Master the art and science of building the right thing by using market, customer & user discovery techniques used at Meta, AWS, Booz Allen, Disney, New Relic, and more, from the team at ProductTheory.io.
Product discovery is where great products are born - it's the systematic process of understanding what your market truly needs before you commit resources to building it. We'll explore research methodologies, customer interview techniques, and validation frameworks that reveal genuine insights. Companies with strong discovery programs see nearly 2x ROI. You'll gain practical skills for conducting meaningful customer conversations, interpreting feedback accurately, and translating insights into confident product decisions.
You'll also learn the art of product storytelling for your pitch deck, positioning, sales, marketing and stakeholder alignment.
ProductTheory.io workshop series at Kiln:
There’s one challenge all founders have in common, especially in 2025. It’s achieving product market fit.
This free workshop series at Kiln is based on ProductTheory’s celebrated Product-Market Fit Canvas: a framework for ensuring smart, data-driven product development and market strategy.
Open to both Kiln members and the broader entrepreneurial community. Non-members get a free day pass to Kiln with their participation.
Why This Series Matters: Dr. Ali Maaxa brings 20 years of experience from Big Tech innovation teams to zero-to-one product launches. Her frameworks have supported successful launches for AWS, Recreation.gov, and numerous startups navigating the path from concept to revenue. These sessions offer practical, field-tested approaches to the challenges every founder faces.
Open to both Kiln members and the broader entrepreneurial community. Your success strengthens the entire ecosystem. |

Dorkbot: Spooky October Edition
Roll back
| description |

Along with the variety of spooky DIY projects that are sure to show up this month, we're continuing our new series of quick talks in the midst of the usual free-flowing chaos. This month's talk is by Jonathan Moore:
*"Half again as much means twice the fun!"* -
Up until the 20 nm process node—the end of the planar-transistor era—the cost per transistor was halving on a regular cadence. Historically, we’ve used that bounty to boost CPU capabilities, but it also meant we could design CPUs that cost half as much. This talk explores that path: what’s happened with cheap CPUs/MCUs and what it might mean for hackers and open hardware.
People doing strange things with electricity!
DorkbotPDX is a relaxed, informal show-and-tell for electronic artists, circuit designers, microcontroller programmers, retro computing enthusiasts, video game designers, digital archaeologists, and mod synth gearheads in Portland, Oregon.
Bring your electronic wonders, monsters, and works-in-progress for others to see, or come see what others have been working on! Whether it's code or circuits, electronic creativity of all sorts is welcome here.
Table space with power will be available for project show-and-tell; we'll have a table for drinks and snacks, feel free to contribute to the communal cache/BYOB. The Free cart is back, take or leave some components (don’t leave TOO much, if you have big stuff, maybe check the Discord/mailing list to see if anyone is interested in taking it first!)

Lucky Labrador Beer Hall (1945 NW Quimby) is located in an old Freightliner Trucking warehouse in the final frontier of inner Northwest Portland. With it's wide open feel and the pub resident five ton crane hovering above the tables, the Lab makes for a very casual place to hang out for a pint. Serving bento, sandwiches, salads, and other pub fare, our pub is a great place to chill out by yourself or congregate with a group of friends, family, or associates. |

That PLUG Clinic you like is coming back into style!
The PLUG Clinic returns again this month on October 19th, from 1pm-5pm, at Willamette University's space on the 2nd floor of the Ecotrust Building. If you need help with your Linux computer, or want to offer help, you are welcome!
Volunteer helpers are as desirable as helpees. Helping is fun and rewarding. If you've ever helped out at a PLUG Clinic before, come checkout the space!
Thank you Willamette University, for hosting us! |

The Willamette University space is on the second floor. You may enter the building through the Hot Lips Pizza, facing the parking lot adjacent to 10th Avenue. The stairway to the 2nd floor is gated, but that should be unlocked (if not, look for a PLUG notice with a Penguin and a phone number you can SMS to get let in). The elevator should work. The off-street parking adjacent to 10th Avenue is "open to the public on weekends", but probably safest to pick the slots marked Guest, if available.
Optionally, pizza is available on premises, other food options are available nearby. |

Tech Talk Replay | Beyond Code: Leveraging AI Concepts in the Coding World
Roll back
| description |

→ |
Didn’t catch it live? Here’s your chance to watch the replay of this thought-provoking Tech Talk on how AI is reshaping coding.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how developers approach their work, not by replacing them, but by shifting the focus from simply writing lines of code to understanding and applying AI-driven concepts.
In this replay, you’ll learn when AI-generated code should be trusted, the risks of relying too heavily on it, and how programmers can stay relevant in an AI-driven future. Rather than another discussion on AI-assisted coding, this session takes a balanced approach, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges AI brings to software development.
Watch the replay with us on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 1 PM PT | 3 PM CT | 4 PM ET.
Perfect for developers, engineers, and tech professionals, this session will show you how to embrace AI as a tool while keeping the problem-solving and critical thinking skills that define great programming.
Join the conversation about the future of coding! |
