Terri Rodriguez-Hong recently published "What it's like having a hidden disability in Silicon Valley" in Fast Company. She'll join us to reflect on the article and to have a discussion about her journey.
Deque System's Carie Fisher will present The Future of Accessibility is a "Choose Your Own Adventure" Book. The question Carie will address is: do designers and developers really think they can build an accessible experience for all - even though there are endless combinations of browsers, ATs, settings, and user preferences?
Our other confirmed speaker is Marc B.D. Greenberg. Robots are entering the public space and our lives more and more. In one form or another—from Roomba to Aibo and home, sidewalk, and in-store robots—they are getting designed and released into our lives and spaces. What accessibility considerations should be made and how can we get in front of that?

At the last several meetings, we looked at how municipalities use surveillance technologies and how the public can have input into the acquisition and use process related to these systems.
But what about private entities? How are they using technology to surveil us? And what happens when private organizations fund surveillance tech or enter into contracts with city governments to provide surveillance services?
This month, local Portland tech journalist Kate Kaye will join us to talk about the ways companies and other private entities are surveilling the public and what that means for our privacy and government policies for tech and data use. Kate is the creator of the the City Surveillance Watch podcast, a three-part scripted series delving into the dichotomy of smart city tech and its surveillance implications. She also is one of the only journalists anywhere to track closely the saga of Portland’s city mobility tracking project with Sidewalk Labs sibling Replica and the city’s groundbreaking facial recognition ban, which outlaws private use of facial recognition.
We'll discuss ownership and sharing of the data collected and how we might get back control of what information is collected and how it's used.

Kate is the creator of the the City Surveillance Watch podcast, a three-part scripted series delving into the dichotomy of smart city tech and its surveillance implications. She also is one of the only journalists anywhere to track closely the saga of Portland’s city mobility tracking project with Sidewalk Labs sibling Replica and the city’s groundbreaking facial recognition ban, which outlaws private use of facial recognition.
We'll discuss ownership and sharing of the data collected and how we might get back control of what information is collected and how it's used.

Taxes can be confusing and frustrating, especially if you're an independent contractor, and a lot has changed with Covid-19 and the CARES Act. That's why we invited Devin to help us demystify taxes and make the most of our hard earned money at this week's Tech Talk.
Devin Weber is an enrolled agent with the IRS and an Oregon Licensed Tax Consultant. She has been doing taxes for 8 years with a focus on small business and self employed individuals. Her focus is educating her clients on how to minimize their tax liability properly within the IRS guidelines which can be confusing and difficult to decipher. In addition to doing taxes she is the CEO of Braille Skateboarding and has spoken at VidCon several years in a row about taxes for self employed YouTube creators.
