update Calagator::Event 1250465180 Portland Ruby Brigade monthly meeting Roll back

description ** Our Nov & Dec 2013 meetings will be at New Relic instead of our usual location, CrowdCompass ** PRE-MEETING DINNER at 6pm We'll have pizza, so stop by early if you want to have dinner and socialize before the presentations. PRESENTATIONS at 7pm: * Markus Roberts: Ruby Hangman * Robb Shecter lightning talk: Intellectual Property in a Nutshell * Davy Stevenson & Eric Hodel & Rein Henrichs: <a href="http://rubyconf.org/program#davy-stevenson-eric-hodel-rein-henrichs">Arrrr me hearty! Sailing the Seas of DRb in a Shoe</a> BEER & SNACKS at 9pm After presentations we'll have more socializing/pirating time with beer & snacks. ARRIVING BY BIKE? Cyclists are welcome to park their bikes in the New Relic office. Bikes are not allowed in the building lobby, however, and must use the freight elevator. To get your bike up to the 28th floor, enter the building's parking lot by going down the ramp at 5th and Pine. Go past the booth -- no need to pick up a ticket -- and turn right. Go straight until you almost run into the elevator lobby, then go right again. On the back side of the elevator block you'll see a beat up pair of double doors marked "freight elevator." You can get up by buzzing in with the intercom, and saying you're here for New Relic. Ride on up to the 28th floor, you'll easily find the bike parking. Thanks to New Relic for providing the venue and beer, pizza & snacks this month! <em>ABOUT THE GROUP: The Portland Ruby Brigade, also known as pdxruby and pdx.rb, is a user group for Ruby programmers in the Portland, Oregon area. The group welcomes all programmers interested in the language and its implementations, tools, libraries and frameworks, such as Ruby on Rails. The group has been meeting since August 2002 for presentations, demos and discussions. Every month 35-75 people come together to share their knowledge, projects and enthusiasm for Ruby. If you'd like to present or have a topic you'd like discussed, please post to the <a href="http://groups.google.com/group/pdxruby">mailing list</a>. The group usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month, "Ruby Tuesday" -- see you there! </em> <a href="http://robaxin.mom/">robaxin</a> <a href="http://prozac-generic.top/">prozac</a> <a href="http://buyabilify.eu/">abilify</a>

create Calagator::Event 1250470436 Coding Summer Camps Roll back

description nil CodeVana is partnering with Catlin Gabel Summer Camps to bring four exciting summer camps. Through these camps children will discover the joy of coding. These camps are created by industry professionals and students and will be week long in the beautiful 60-acre campus in Southwest Portland of the Catlin Gabel School. Sessions run July 5 - July 22, 2016, and are open to all children in the Portland metro area. Please REGISTER at https://www.catlin.edu/page.cfm?p=1005&LockSSL=true and bring the joy of coding not only to your child but also youth who don't have access. Sign up for the camp and help youth who do not have the resources to enjoy a free coding camp through CodeVana’s Community Building initiative. The four camps offered are as follows: CodeVana: Digital Game Explorers [July 5-8th] In this summer camp, students are introduced to the joy of coding and programming through games, simulations and they will also learn to become digital creators by creating minecraft mods or digital newspapers/videos. They will present their work in an end of the week show and tell. Students ages 7-10 have an option of full day camp or a half day camp. CodeVana: Breakaway with Code & Things [July 5-8th] [July 18-22nd] In this summer camp, 10-14 year old students will learn to code, make, play while using Internet of Things and integrate their understanding of math and science through computing/games as well as learning how their minds and brains work. This camp is experiential in nature and will focus on collaboration, and creation. Middle Schoolers have an option of full day camp or a half day camp. CodeVana: Girls Make Apps [July 11-15th] Girls and women in the U.S. are avid users of computer technology, but they are significantly underrepresented in its creation. CodeVana is bringing a fun girls only camp organized by girls/women to help girls discover the joy of building, computer science, and coding. Girls will build Games, play with Internet Of Things, design and deploy Web & Mobile Apps in a collaborative and creative environment as well as explore science, math, and social aspects of women in technology. We invite middle school (7th-8 graders) and high school girls to join us. Girls will make Web Apps, Mobile Apps, and Game Apps in a collaborative and creative environment. CodeVana: Startup Engineering [July 11-15] High School students are invited to make their ideas into reality through building and making with computing. They will learn all the engineering and customer development skills to build a technology startup. On July 15th, students will pitch their ideas and prototypes to the community and win prizes to continue to pursue their ideas through a community vote.

update Calagator::Event 1250470369 Emacs Hack Night Roll back

description Tonight, our Emacs Hangout will feature a **Hack Night**, where we can all get together and hack on new or existing projects that members bring. Not sure what this may entail? Check out [these initial thoughts](http://www.howardism.org/Technical/Emacs/hack-night.html) on the subject, and post your responses on the Meetup site or Google Groups mailing list. If you have a little or big project or problem you'd like to solve, bring it for a bit of hackery and fun. Hope to see you all there! Our scheduled **Hack Night** has been cancelled due to lack of a place, so this evening, we are just meeting for drinks at the Lotus, and talk about a Hack Night for next month.

update Calagator::Event 1250470404 Dispatches from the Data Frontier: Hack Oregon Demo Night!! Roll back

description <b>DEMO DAY 2016</b> Hack Oregon has been hard at work since February using data to find insight on important topics facing our state. We've had over 100 volunteers contribute over 10,000 man hours to bring you one night of data-driven wonderment! Join us as we unleash a new set of open data projects that will change the way you see Oregon. <b> Kindly RSVP on Eventbrite datadispatches.eventbrite.com Project Teasers <b>"Oregon Hunger Equation"</b><br> Food Insecurity Year after year, Oregon has one of the highest reported rates of food insecurity in the country. If you ask the question, "Who's hungry?": The answer is kids. The data is clear, but the reality is hard. We've made a dynamic program to explore systemic causes of hunger at home by placing a special focus on resources available to families with young children including regional cost of living, state benefit programs, and inequalities local schools districts. <b>"Behind the Curtain”</b><br> Campaign Finance We're lifting the veil off election politics with a fascinating high-level view of influence and money in Oregon's election cycles. Hack Oregon has the only machine readable database for local campaign finance in the country, and we've learned that influence is as much about relationships as it about dollars. And at the local level, your vote matters A LOT. This year, we've added new meta-data to reveal effects of industry buy-in and individual patronage during an election cycle... with a few surprises. Unlock the real story behind politics and feel ultra-empowered as a voter this November. <b>“Plot PDX”</b><br> Urban Development Data can tell us a lot about our neighborhoods. At a time when Portland is experiencing rapid growth and change, it's more important than ever that all communities have equal access to information that can inform decisions about the future of our city. We're giving the community access to a range of data which has never been available on one platform. Explore Portland's neighborhoods as you've never seen them before, on topics that you care about, like demolitions, crime, and the rising cost of rent. <b>“Crop Compass"</b><br> Agriculture In the Pacific Northwest, we live in one of the most rich biospheres in the world, with global demand for Oregon grown products. We have the ability to produce a wide range of food in Oregon, but we're far from self-sustaining. How much of our regional vitality is retained inside of Oregon, and how much do we ship out? How do our economic and environmental factors work together to shape our food system? We've created a tool that gives insight into multi-dimensional patterns across land use, crop diversity, subsidies, seasonality, and import/export trends to help understand more about the mechanics of how food gets from farm to table. <b>"Programming to Progress"</b><br> Education Across Oregon, some schools are lucky enough to have free or low-cost summer school programming and/or after school programming--- and the playing field is not level. How much of a difference does after school and summer school programming make for early literacy, attendance, and future academic success of students? Hack Oregon has the first aggregate statewide analysis of the link between performance and expanded programming, with some surprising implications of region-wide impact that goes beyond the classroom. </b> <b>DEMO DAY 2016</b> Hack Oregon has been hard at work since February using data to find insight on important topics facing our state. description nil <p><b>BDD: Define, Describe, Develop</b></p> <p><br>Behavior Driven Development is a software methodology that uses natural language and concrete examples to understand exactly how features in your application should work. Focusing on meaningful team conversations and automated testing, BDD can provide up-to-date cliff notes on each part of your system. These principles encourage writing better user stories which will assist in a shared understanding of the underlying business goals. This in turn allows you to automate parts of your documentation and get an updated snapshot of the system on each build.</p> <p><br>Speaker:  Andy Craze is a left-handed, music obsessed, full-stack engineer with an interest in natural language. He currently writes code at Discogs and has also used BDD principles at Intel and Arizona State University. When he's not coding, he's either hiking around the Pacific Northwest or playing music with his friends.</p>
