update Calagator::Event 1250472604 PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) Happy Hour Networking Event Roll back

description ***Registration through Eventbrite is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event*** We are celebrating Giving Tuesday by joining forces with Free Geek for our Happy Hour on November 28th. PDXWIT exists as a way to encourage, support and empower women in the Portland tech community. One way to feel empowered is to lift each other at work, and because we feel this is so important, we’ve made it the theme of this event. The conversation starter is “What's something new you can do to empower your coworkers and colleagues?” In the spirit of giving, we will be offering a number of ways to give back to your community: • Donate your used electronics to support Free Geek • P:ear is organizing a “Women Supporting the Women” bra and underwear drive! For young, homeless women, it is hard to find support for their diverse and changing bodies. Let’s give them the support they need! Bring in gift certificates to Ross or other easy-to-access clothing stores for custom purchases, or raid your wardrobe for new or very lightly used bras. All sizes are needed. Practical styles encouraged, including sports and maternity. New underwear also encouraged. • Sign up to be an individual or sustaining supporter for PDXWIT and get a green shirt! While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. ᛫ Introduction to Free Geek, including what they do and what job opportunities are available. ᛫ Pippa Arend, Development Director at p:ear, will talk about Ladies Supporting the Ladies. ᛫ Commissioner Smith will talk about how Multnomah County is giving women and people of color access to startup funds. During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking: ᛫ An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. ᛫ Table Topics to help break the ice. ᛫ A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected. Event FAQ Q: What is the parking situation? A: Street parking is available Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: Yes Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Not necessarily PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. update Calagator::Event 1250472055 PDXWIT Presents Invest in Yourself: A Night Dedicated to Your Financial Plan Roll back

description We can always find excuses to avoid working on our financial plan. It’s boring. It’s confusing. I’ll do it next week. I don’t have the money. This is a huge problem. In a world where women earn less money than men and spend, on average, eleven fewer years in the workforce, women have to plan and work harder than their male counterparts. No more excuses! It’s time to take ahold of financial planning so that you can make clear, confident money decisions that will best benefit your future. Join us for an evening of discussion about all things personal finance. The speaker will be Amanda Holden of Invested Development, who uses humor and candor to educate women on long-term financial planning and investing. She will be available for questions after the presentation. This event does not require any prior experience with financial planning. In partnership with Joshua Alan Young from the Portland VR Meetup, co-organizers Judy Fischbach and Marguerite Gallagher invite you to come learn what Virtual Reality offers and to understand why there is so much trending interest. An emerging technology that is expected to impact many fields, including entertainment, journalism, education, and health care, VR/AR has been identified by the Technology Association of Oregon as one of top areas of technology growth in our state. The community in Portland is gaining momentum. It's an exciting time for many of us to jump in as the technology is so new. Don’t know where to begin? We will have an overview, hands-on opportunities to experience the technology, and information on tools and resources. Our panel will include speakers from the community on VR education and on companies/projects with promising VR related work which demonstrates the variety of exciting applications. update Calagator::Event 1250472690 AgilePDX: If You're Agile, Dance! Roll back

description Today companies need Agile throughout. But how can they go beyond software to include even board and basic legal structure? Share and comment on the journey Jutta Eckstein and I are on to answer that question. We first generalize the Manifesto to values of: self-organization, transparency, constant customer focus, and continuous learning. Then, deepen these values by adding Beyond Budgeting, Open Space, Sociocracy. A new organigram emerges that synthesizes board, inspiration, resource support, and value center perspectives and focuses them on the customer. Finally, use Cynefin to implement company-wide Agility, and then dance! Format: The presentation will cycle between presenting ideas, posing questions audience small groups, and providing brief moments for sharing and reflection. Bio: John Buck lives near Washington, DC, USA, and is a division director for The Sociocracy Group, an international foundation headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands. John has led dozens of sociocracy implementation projects for a variety of organizations around the globe, ranging from schools and neighborhoods to NGOs and for-profit manufacturers and IT companies using Agile. He believes that such basic values as equality, effectivness, and transparency can make our work places dramatically more elegant and sustainable. Education and credentials -- Master of Science degree in Quantitative Sociology, The George Washington University -- Certified Sociocratic Consultant This is AgilePDX's second webinar speaker. Web conferencing is allowing us to bring in speakers doing cutting edge work around the world. Come join us for this innovative discussion. Today companies need Agile throughout. He excels in customizing sociocracy principles to each organization’s particular concerns, work schedules, and professional areas. description nil Come join the Portland Drupal community and chat about all the good things from last week's BADCamp! I'll be there around 6:30pm. On the fourth Tuesday of each month, we get together to chat, work on projects, ask questions of our fellow Drupalers, and have a pint. Brewpal takes place around 5-6pm at the Lucky Lab in NW Portland (1945 NW Quimby St, Portland, OR 97209). We meet, work on our projects, and ask questions of our neighbors with no formal agenda. These meetups are for ALL levels of Drupal users. Come with your laptop, a project to work on and some questions. We'll learn a bit from each other and get some work done while having a beer! And, if you're not into beer, they have some solid food options.

Presenters have the option of a free one hour presentation coaching session with Tambre Leighn, a certified high performance coach who specializes in training experts in the medical, research, and technology sectors to present powerfully and with ease. How do I apply to present? Register for the event by selecting the “Presenter” ticket type by February 12th, 2018. We will notify selected presenters by email on February 16th, 2018. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. All people who support our purpose are welcome.
