PDX Weekly Hackathon
Roll back
| description |

→ |
Come do strange things with computers amongst others whilst drinking fine Portland beer. Look for the row of geeks with computers in the back of the main room.
All programming languages welcome. Come work on your own projects, work on others participants' projects, get advice, have fun, etc.
You're encouraged to bring a computer, but can team up with others that brought one too.
Afterwards, the group descends on the 12th and Hawthorne foodcart pod for additional nourishment.
Also, many people meet up at the pub during the same time as the hackathon to play boardgames they bring which you're welcomed to play. |

Mobile Web Frameworks: A Case Study in Implementing jQTouch
Roll back
| description |
ORGANIZATION AND REGISTRATION
Presented by the Developer Forum of the Software Association of Oregon. Online registration is open through the website until 5pm on May 18.
EVENT SUMMARY
The sudden rise of smart phones interests organizations in extending their existing applications to work with mobile devices. The question immediately rises whether to develop native apps for the mobile platforms or to create a mobile-friendly web site.
Both approaches have pros and cons, but some code frameworks make it easy to produce websites that look and feel close to a native app by making use of HTML5 and CSS3.
Recently WebMD wanted to make a userâs Personal Health Record available in a mobile friendly manner. This talk will go over the key points which drove us to use the jQTouch framework over native apps, and it will go into technical detail showing how this framework allowed for a very fast and clean implementation.
The event includes networking, program, and lunch.
PRESENTER
Jake Hall, Lead Developer, WebMD
Jake Hall has worked in the software industry for 10 years. He has spent the last 6 years at WebMD Health Services Group and is currently Lead Developer and is has been providing leadership on the development team in moving to mobile applications. |

OEN Webinar: Is there a Market for your Product?
Roll back
| description |

Are you thinking of starting a new company? Or already have, but sales aren't what you think they should be? Are you questioning your market's "readiness" for your products or services? Your company?
If you are concerned about market acceptance - and want to learn how to quickly âidentifyâ how well the market will receive your product, don't miss this webinar.
Mark Paul, Managing Director at Synergy Consulting Group and the author of The Entrepreneur's Survival Guide, will walk you through two (of the six) methods to help you determine if there is a market for your product or business - before you invest time and money developing products that may never be what the market wants.
Speaker: Mark Paul
Mark Paul has extensive executive leadership experience. He has led start-ups through public companies in his 22 years in interim executive and consulting work. Before Synergy, he spent 10 years at Northrop Corporation (Global 500 company), where (as an intrapreneur) he built a 250-person business unit in two years. He has a degree in Physics, a patent, and published several editions of two business books: The Entrepreneur's Survival Guide, and How to Attract Significantly More Customers. |

Dorkbot Workshop -- Focused Workshop: Audio Synthesis
Roll back
| description |
Please join us on the last Sunday of the month for one or more of these opportunities to learn. This may change somewhat given schedule conflicts withe PNCA which has graciously hosted these classes for the last 3 years. I will be at the open lab Sunday and would like to discuss what could be done to make the workshops and workshop schedule better serve the community.
The PNCA workshops are at the Pacific Nortwest College of Art (1241 NW Johnson St.) from 1-5 in the afternoon, usually in room 205. |

<h1>__s_o_u_n_d_____s_y_n_t_h_e_s_i_s__<br/>f e a t u r i n g __ P d</h1>.......<a href="http://dorkbotpdx.org">dorkbotpdx</a> is proud to announce.......
A unique, free workshop geared at teaching sound synthesis fundamentals as explored and demonstrated through Pure Data.
Fascinated by orgies of towering analog synthesizes from the 60s? Mesmerized by how computers can generate sound that offends and elates? In this causal yet intense session, we will cover the basics of audio signal theory while exploring the common techniques and tricks used by sound designers and synth builders.
We will progressively cover theories/techniques from the ground up, so no formal experience is required. We will make some noise.

Helping you Solve the Rubik's Cube of Revenue Growth: Getting from $1M to $5M
Roll back
| description |
Ever try to solve a Rubik's cube? Most people can complete one side, but solving the whole puzzle is decidedly more difficult. Entrepreneurs experience the same thing when trying to solve the revenue growth puzzle. Achieving the first million is pretty straightforward, but growing revenues from $1M to $5M is complicated. You have to be thinking several steps ahead and managing several moving parts. Solving the revenue growth puzzle requires you to think of marketing, sales, staffing, training, financing, production and distribution. OEN has assembled a stellar panel of entrepreneurs who have successfully grown their companiesâ revenues past the $5M mark and are willing to share their experiences, and answer your questions. Please join moderator Frank Helle, CEO of Axian, Inc. and Program Chair for OEN's CEO Roundtable, along with the following three revenue-growth experts for an informative and entertaining panel discussion. There will be plenty of interactive Q&A time regarding how to drive revenue growth from the $1M marker to the $5M marker.
Chris Marsh, Pulse Health
Julie Pickens, Little Busy Bodies
Mike Wright, Wellpartner
You can cut to profitability but not to top-line growth...learn what these experts know This panel of local entrepreneurs knows how to create long-term value for all stake holders through top-line growth. They also have succeeded recently despite the challenging access to capital and the difficult economy businesses face today. This workshop is your opportunity to quiz them on their successes, frustrations, and lessons learned that you can apply to your growing business. |
