create Calagator::Event 1250474482 Survey of Music Generation using Deep Learning w/ Jonathan Mackrory Roll back

description nil == Slack == There is a #deep-learning channel in the PDX Startups slack which you can join at https://pdx-startups-slack.herokuapp.com == Topic == Jonathan Mackrory will lead the discussion. Music generation is one of the applications for deep learning where the emphasis is more on creativity than strict classification or regression. We'll have a presentation giving a quick survey of methods for music generation using deep learning. We'll have a whirlwind tour through representations of the music, important neural network architectures, some of the implementations, and hear some of the output. If we're lucky, some of it might even sound like music. We'll then wrap up with some open discussion about the topic. The presentation will closely follow and be based on "Deep Learning Techniques for Music Generation - A Survey" by Briot, Hadjeres and Pachet. The article is available here: https://arxiv.org/abs/1709.01620 Note that the article is 108 pages, so there is little expectation anyone will read it. For those that want to look at the article, the essential material is in Ch 4,5,7,10.

description nil The Portland Chapter of the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) will be hosting an introduction to OWASP Juice Shop [https://github.com/bkimminich/juice-shop]. OWASP Juice Shop is an intentionally insecure web application for security trainings written entirely in JavaScript which encompasses the entire OWASP Top Ten [https://www.owasp.org/index.php/Category:OWASP_Top_Ten_Project] and other severe security flaws. The session will provide a top level overview of the Juice Shop playground and how to get started with it, as well as an opportunity for attendees to team up to teach and learn from each other in a fun Capture The Flag competition. David Quisenberry (@dmqpdx16) will be facilitating the session. He's a developer with Daylight Studio and explorer of application security issues.

description nil Vars are at the heart of how Clojure code is evaluated, but their primary features are subtle and their secondary features are many and obscure. Understanding Clojure's vars not only clarifies how the language works, but also opens up new ways of making the language do what you want, especially when building development tools. BIO Gary Fredericks is a software engineer who has been making Clojure-themed jokes for nearly ten years. He lives in Chicago and does programming things for DRW. description nil Mob Programming is a software development practice with many benefits - it raises code quality, removes knowledge silos, minimizes mental fatigue, and more. In practice it feels more like a bulldozer than a racecar - unstoppable and thorough. The core of mob programming is pointing many pairs of eyes on a single problem, pushing all the code through a single keyboard. Each month we'll explore different methods for learning to mob well and reaping the rewards of this practice as soon as possible on your own team. Directions: Enter WTC Building One at its second floor lobby (ADA access: ground floor elevator). Take an elevator to the 9th floor (press '9' outside the elevators and use the indicated cab). Follow signs to the Cayuse lobby and sign in for the event. Facilitator Bio: Willem Larsen is a senior software developer at Hunter Industries. He has been speaking at Agile conferences on improving collaboration since 2009. He is the creator of accelerated team learning tools such as the Mob Programming role-playing game and Code Cooking (with Emmanuel Gaillot), author of the Language Hunter's Kit, co-author of 5 Rules For Accelerated Learning, founder of Language Hunters (a non-profit organization dedicated to improving communities of learning in technology, language, science, and music), and both a wildlife tracker and Search and Rescue tracker.

create Calagator::Event 1250474469 AgilePDX Downtown Pub Lunch - In Groups and Out Groups Roll back

description nil It's that time again, Portland! We continue to grow our community of practice for all things Agile. This month we have an exciting topic. In-groups and out-groups in an organization. We tend to congregate in clusters. These clusters can be along team, department, and division lines. But they can also be along race, gender, political, religious, etcetera lines. How do we manage this clustering in order to keep everyone happy and productive in achieving the goals of the organization? This is a timely conversation in a world that seems more starkly divided betweens blues and reds, ups and downs, lefts and rights. These differences are something that can drive us apart or even bring us together? Join us for great food, great company, and great conversation at a great location. **Please follow the link to RSVP!** https://www.meetup.com/AgilePDX-User-Group-Portland-Metro/events/255619157/

create Calagator::Event 1250474468 Exploring AWS IoT Core Roll back

description nil For this meetup I will be discussing how to interface Amazon Web Services with IoT devices, Specifically the AWS IoT Core services. This will be a small group lecture to determine interest in the topic for a bigger demonstration if feasible. This two hour lecture will cover how simple embedded devices like the ESP8266 and Raspberry Pi can send data to AWS core and then what kind of workflow is typical for IoT within the AWS Cloud (DynamoDB, S3, QuickSight etc.) with the data. The lecture roughly follows my course on Udemy which explores the topic more extensively with hands-on labs. https://www.udemy.com/exploring-aws-iot This will be a free lecture with limited space rather than our typical hands-on workshop due to time and space constraints. If it proves popular I will plan a bigger and longer, hands-on workshop. We are not affiliated with Amazon or Hackster.

Think TEDTalk! The goal of lightning talks is to articulate a topic in a quick, insightful, and clear manner. We will have a variety of presenters that will share their ideas a topic of their choice for 10 minutes with some additional time for questions. You will hear a lot of interesting information and hear unique viewpoints. Topics correlate to audit, information security, risk, fraud, or professional development. Please join us for this one-of-a kind event! Plus, the event is free and dinner and an adult beverage are included! How can you go wrong? Speaker Topics: Motorcycles and the art of risk-taking as an Auditor: Navigating the twists and turns of your career can be both crushing, dizzying, and yes beautiful. Make bad choices and you could deal with years of regret. Accepting unplanned route changes can be very tough, hard on the ego, and downright scary. The trek of the last 10 years or so took my family through losing loved ones, a layoff from a bailout company (yes one of the ones who went to DC in a private jet to ask for money), income reductions, grad school, and being open to interesting opportunities that have taken me around the world. Luckily, I have the support of my wife and partner and together we've worked through many challenges in our lives together, as a team. Through relentless support and sometimes brute force, we've navigated bumps in the road and found balance by getting more comfortable with ambiguity and risk. I'd love to share a few minutes of ideas about my journey, how it changed several times without my consent, and offer some ways to think ahead about personal risk taking. The Recipe to an Auditor’s Success: Lauren and Taylor will give their perspective of what clients can do to avoid common pitfalls during audit engagements and ways to help your favorite auditors succeed. Keys to a Successful Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Implementation: Implement the foundational elements to accelerate business performance. RPA is the application of technology that allows employees in a company to configure computer software or a ‘robot’ to capture and interpret existing applications for processing a transaction, manipulating data, triggering responses and communicating with other digital systems. More topics to come! SPEAKER BIOS: Eric Jenkins is a leader with experience in Enterprise Risk and Audit. He's worked for an interesting mix of companies, including America Online, GMAC, and Deutsche Bank, and has landed in the beautiful Northwest. He helps great companies work through financial crime and technology problems. In his free time he loves riding motorcycles and playing music whenever he can. Eric is a MBA, CAMS, CISA, and CRISC. Lauren Overton: Started her career with Moss Adams in 2013. Her client experience ranges over various industries with a focus in manufacturing and distribution, construction, and healthcare in both the private and public sectors. Lauren’s favorite part of her job is the ability to gain an understanding of how different companies operate; whether that be discussing future projections with the CFO or reviewing a control process with a staff accountant. Outside of the normal work week, Lauren enjoys taking advantage of the Portland “foodie scene”, fostering rescue animals, spoiling her own pooch and going to see live music with her husband. Taylor Schimbke joined public accounting in 2014 and provides accounting, auditing, and consulting services to a wide variety of clients, with a passionate focus in the construction, forest products, and distribution industries. Recently, Taylor undertook a job rotation with the IT Assurance group at Moss Adams and is primarily focused on IT SOX compliance. She is helping to lead the firm’s initiative to develop skilled IT auditors and encourage collaboration and synergy across the assurance practice. In her free time, Taylor is a novice gardener and loves spending time outdoors with her golden retriever, Kobe. Zefren Edior is alumni of California State University Polytechnic Institute of Pomona, and he volunteers and spends time engaging youth in technology training and awareness, and engages HS and collegiate students through technology competitions and general outreach on professional development.
