Roll back
| description |
**Seating is limited. Please RSVP here:** https://www.meetup.com/AgilePDX-User-Group-Portland-Metro/events/256078889/
How do you get started with Sprint 0?
Wait what? Don't you mean the first sprint?
Nope. At this special 3rd Friday edition of the Westside Cafe we will dig into Sprint 0. What is it? When is it appropriate? Who should be involved?
Not a fan of Sprint 0? Great! Join us and help us flesh out the pros and cons. Have you participated in an inception sprint that set the team up for success. Yay! We could use your lessons learned.
Join us for what promises to be a lively discussion about the hows and whys and wherefores of Iteration Zero.
**Whether you are a master at organizational change or just starting out, join us in what's bound to be a lively discussion. We'll all walk away with something new to try.** |

<i><b>What is Technology?</b></i> (2019) will examine the vortices of interaction among practical arts and tools, techniques and processes, moral knowledge and imagination to navigate our everchanging media/life/universe. In a broad sense, technology can be understood as methods of intelligent inquiry and problem-solving in all domains of human life. The conference-experience will enact a collaborative network of transdisciplinary research by cultivating communication as the heart of science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics, and environments.
This year marks the ten-year anniversary and ninth annual What is…?, bringing together natural and social scientists, scholars, government officials, industry professionals, artists and designers, as well as alumni, students, community organizations, and the public.
<a href="https://blogs.uoregon.edu/whatistechnology/cfp/"><b>–> CALL FOR PROPOSALS </b></a><br> (Due by December 21, 2018)
<blockquote>
<b>“Pattern recognition in the midst of a huge overwhelming destructive force is the way out of the maelstrom. The huge vortices of energy created by our media present us with similar possibilities of evasion of consequences of destruction. By studying the patterns of the effects of this huge vortex of energy in which we are involved, it may be possible to program a strategy of evasion and survival.”</b> —Marshall McLuhan, 1979</blockquote> |

Did you know Linux dominates the vast majority of web servers? It's an essential skill to learn if your an administrator, developer, or architect.
I'll share a demo of installing, setting up a filesystem, managing a firewall, run a hypervisor, and share the basic admin commands. If we have time we can include a discussion on Linux containers.
If you would like to join the discussion check us out on Zoom https://zoom.us/j/7891236789. If you want to listen, we're also on Facebook Live https://www.facebook.com/KnowledgeMavens/.
Do you want to learn and share your passion in a supportive community? Knowledge Mavens is an ethos of sharing, creativity, and inspiration.
Our Meetup provides an opportunity to "Show and Tell" followed by a feedback and Q&A. You'll have the opportunity to share with our channels such as Meetup, GitHub, YouTube, and Facebook to connect with more passionate people.
The second half of our session we'll collaborate on new topics. The winner wins an award for the most interesting topic and the opportunity to share in an upcoming session. |

| description |
Git is well over a decade old and still reigns King and is a de Facto Standard for many good reasons. Join us for an Intro to Git workshop where you will learn the basics of this powerful version-control tool.

At the end of the night you should have a general understanding of Git as a tool and how to use it from the command line to maintain proper version control of your code.
Bring your laptop and if you haven't already:
Download and install git : https://git-scm.com
Create an account at : https://github.com

TestML - Data Driven Testing for All Modern Programming Languages
In 2004 I created the Test::Base data driven testing module for CPAN. It
became popular with several prolific CPAN authors like MIYAGAWA and became
the main testing framework for companies like Socialtext and OpenResty, In
2010 I decided to "Acmeize" it and I made TestML with the intent of making
it work in all programming languages. I got it going in Perl5/CPAN and a
couple other languages. In 2017 OpenResty paid me to write a new version of
the language in their proprietary ecosystem, and the resulting idea was
really much better. They allowed me to take the new ideas to Open Source
and in 2018 I have the new great TestML language. It is currently working
in 8 languages (Bash, CoffeeScript, Go, JavaScript, Perl 5, Perl 6, Python
2 and Python 3) and easy to port. Other ports are under way including C++.
The official YAML test suite is written in TestML!
In this talk I will:
- Introduce you to the TestML language
(it's so simple, most programs are a single line!)
- Show how TestML works well with any language's existing test frameworks
- Show how to use in Perl 5 and 6 and others
- Show how the language is compiled to Lingy (a JSON based Lisp)
- Show how to port TestML to a new programming language or test framework
- and much more! |

Portland AWS User Group - Amazon Sumerian - Create and Host Immersive AR and VR Content for the 3D Web

<p>Please join us for the next Portland AWS User Group Meetup on Thursday, November 8, hosted by KinderCare Education.</p> <p>TOPIC: Amazon Sumerian - Create and Host Immersive AR and VR Content for the 3D Web, using only a Web Browser.</p> <p>Presenters:<br>• Dennis Baker, KinderCare Education</p> <p>• Kyle Roche, General Manager, Amazon Sumerian</p> <p>Schedule:</p> <p>• 6:00 PM: Check-in and Happy Hour</p> <p>• 6:30 PM: Demo and Deep Dive</p> <p>• 7:45 PM: Q&A</p> <p>A special thanks to our host KinderCare Education. Headquartered in Portland, KinderCare Education is an experience-based provider of early education and child care, serving 170,000 children and their families across the country every day.</p> <p><a href="https://aws.amazon.com/sumerian/" class="linkified">https://aws.amazon.com/sumerian/</a><br><a href="http://www.kc-education.com/" class="linkified">http://www.kc-education.com/</a></p> <p>Details:<br>Take yourself back to 1998, when the first websites were being built. What tool did they use? For many it was a tool like Dreamweaver: expensive, complex, on-premise software. Fast forward to 2018. What do people use now? Tools like Wordpress, Wix, Weebly and Shopify. These tools are cloud-based, pay-as-you-go, and simple yet powerful. Content creation for the 3D web (including AR and VR) is high friction today. Businesses have devices and problems to solve but the content creation tools feel like we’re stuck in the 90’s.</p> <p>Kyle Roche, GM of AR/VR at Amazon Web Services, will discuss how AWS leverages their cloud offerings to simplify content creation for the 3D web. Amazon Sumerian allows non-3D experts to create AR and VR content using only a web browser. Content can be easily published to end-users who then decide how they want to consume the experience. Learn how you can develop dynamic, immersive customer engagements that can experienced via advertising signage, in-store retail displays, websites, mobile devices, or VR headsets. With Sumerian, you can build once and publish widely.</p> |
