update Calagator::Event 1250460475 PDX Python Monthly Meeting Roll back

description The monthly Portland Python meetup. The monthly Portland Python meetup. Tonight we've got a great meeting planned. Chris Pitzer will show us how he's been Learning Javascript from Python, and I'll be sharing my thoughts about how and why YOU can and should give technical talks in Why You Should Be Up Here. Also, we still don't have a volunteer for Michel's Module of the Month, so if you're up for telling us about your new favorite stdlib module we'd love to hear about it!

create Calagator::Event 1250460476 Drupal User Group monthly meet-up Roll back

description nil Here's what we've got on the agenda: 1. "A Case Study in Drupal 7: Care Network by Elite Care" presented by Manuel Mejia Want to leverage the power of Drupal to address your own specific niche industry or market? Learn how this can be accomplished by examining a real-world case study of the "Care Network"—a Drupal distribution that assists staff and family members in creating "Communities of Care" for elderly and disabled people. Built on Drupal 7, the Care Network helps provision services, monitor community residents, and facilitate social interaction. In particular, Manuel will discuss unique features of the project including real-time location tracking of all individuals on campus, programable alerts using a wide array of sensors, web enabled recording of daily notes and services, and touch screen monitors used to input and display this information. He'll also touch upon the strengths of Drupal as an application platform and how anyone can extend Drupal 7 core and contributed modules to fit their unique project requirements and needs. 2. "Building a Social Network in Drupal" presented by Ben Kaplan Have you ever wanted to build your own social network? Or maybe add some cool social networking features to your existing website? In this presentation, Ben will demo some of the latest features of the User Relationships (http://drupal.org/project/user_relationships) and Private Message (http://drupal.org/project/privatemsg) modules—two modules he's worked on that allow you to replicate many features of popular social networks. And what if you also want to leverage the power of other third-party social networks like Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace? Ben will demo the newest features of the Janrain Engage (http://drupal.org/project/rpx) module, including the ability to authenticate with other social networks, map user data from these networks, share content simultaneously across networks, and integrate with popular Drupal modules like Rules and Views. Finally, here are the meeting details: Date: Wednesday, April 13 Time: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. (after the meeting, we head to Lucky Lab for drinks and conversation!) Location: OpenSourcery offices (1636 NW Lovejoy St. Portland, OR 97209) It promises to be really interesting and useful meeting... you don't want to miss it! See you there,

create Calagator::Event 1250460478 [Beer and Blog] Paul Bingman: Friend to All, Giant of Heart Roll back

description nil As most of you know, our beloved film/tech/train/jazz/labyrinth/werewolf/volunteering-loving Renaissance man Paul Bingman passed away from cancer on April 3, 2011. A private memorial in his honor is planned for this Sunday, April 17, at the <a href="http://portlandartmuseum.org/">Portland Art Museum</a>’s Whitsell Auditorium. All are welcome (There will be chocolate! And a labyrinth!) but you must RSVP because there is a capacity cap. You can do that here: <a href="http://friendsofpaulbingman.eventbrite.com/">http://friendsofpaulbingman.eventbrite.com/</a> What you might not know is that the organization planning the memorial--they appropriately call themselves Friend’s of Paul Bingman--is raising funds to cover the expenses related to the memorial. They are also raising money to donate to two of his favorite organizations in his name: <a href="http://www.nwfilm.org/">The Northwest Film Center</a> and <a href="http://www.trinity-episcopal.org/08TrinitySite/sections/parish_life/labyrinth.html">The Trinity Labyrinth Guild</a>. You can donate money via this website: <a href="http://paulbingman.chipin.com/memorial-event-for-paul-bingman">http://paulbingman.chipin.com/memorial-event-for-paul-bingman</a> Because Paul’s interests were so varied and vast (and so are the friends he made) the Friend’s of Paul Bingman group is asking all of us help spread the word about his memorial. Not all of the lives he touched are Internet savvy, so they might not know about the memorial. They might not even know that Paul has passed. So, if you’re part of a group that Paul had been involved with, we ask that you share the news of his death and invite anyone who may have experienced his bear hugs and kindness to RSVP and attend the memorial. This Friday’s Beer and Blog meetup is dedicated to the memory of our dedicated friendly soul Paul, the man everyone loved so much. We’ll be accepting donations to turn over to the Friend’s of Paul Bingman group. And we’ll be sharing stories about the giant with the giant heart. We hope to see you there. I know Paul will be, in spirit.
