Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-third-annual-women-tech-holiday-party-tickets-39804880469#tickets] is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event

We are giving away the PDXWIT annual tote to the first 100 people who check-in.

Join us at our Women + Tech Holiday Party, co-organized by PDXWIT and WWC Portland in partnership with Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, PyLadies, and Girls Inc. This event is hosted by OMSI and sponsored by Nike, Cambia, the UW Foster School of Business, and ClientJoy.

2017 has been a big year for our communities and we are thrilled to come together, for the fourth year, to celebrate the holidays and what we’ve accomplished. In honor of our celebratory theme, PDXWIT and WWC Portland will be recognizing individuals for their great work over the year.

PDXWIT will be honoring two individuals, Best Contributor and Best Speaker. If you or someone you know has has been working hard to make PDXWIT a success or spoken at one of our events, please submit your nominations by November 19th. The Best Contributor award will be selected in advance by a panel and finalists for the Best Speaker Award will perform runoff Lightning Talks at the Holiday Party. The winner will be selected by text-to-vote.

At Women Who Code, we regularly celebrate the achievements of our members through the #ApplaudHer hashtag. We use #ApplaudHer to highlight victories ranging from accepting a new position and receiving a promotion to speaking at a conference and meeting a personal goal. The concept is simple: we believe that recognition can create change and that rewriting public perceptions can transform tech.

During the Women + Tech Holiday Party, we will announce our Tech Leadership and Rising Tech Star winners from the many submissions we have received throughout the year. While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a segment to hear from our sponsors and introduce and announce awards.

During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:

  • an activity table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.

  • table topics to help break the ice.

  • a section for job seekers and those hiring to ensure people get connected.

Music will be provided by DJ Mienne.

PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) Happy Hour Networking Event
Free Geek

Registration through Eventbrite is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event

We are celebrating Giving Tuesday by joining forces with Free Geek for our Happy Hour on November 28th.

PDXWIT exists as a way to encourage, support and empower women in the Portland tech community. One way to feel empowered is to lift each other at work, and because we feel this is so important, we’ve made it the theme of this event. The conversation starter is “What's something new you can do to empower your coworkers and colleagues?”

In the spirit of giving, we will be offering a number of ways to give back to your community:

• Donate your used electronics to support Free Geek • P:ear is organizing a “Women Supporting the Women” bra and underwear drive! For young, homeless women, it is hard to find support for their diverse and changing bodies. Let’s give them the support they need! Bring in gift certificates to Ross or other easy-to-access clothing stores for custom purchases, or raid your wardrobe for new or very lightly used bras. All sizes are needed. Practical styles encouraged, including sports and maternity. New underwear also encouraged. • Sign up to be an individual or sustaining supporter for PDXWIT and get a green shirt!

While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. ᛫ Introduction to Free Geek, including what they do and what job opportunities are available. ᛫ Pippa Arend, Development Director at p:ear, will talk about Ladies Supporting the Ladies. ᛫ Commissioner Smith will talk about how Multnomah County is giving women and people of color access to startup funds.

During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:

᛫ An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. ᛫ Table Topics to help break the ice. ᛫ A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.

Women + Tech Third Annual Summer Soirée
Cambia Health Solutions 1621 SW First Avenue Portland, OR 97201

Please RSVP on Eventbrite

Join us for our third annual summer soiree in partnership with Women Who Code, Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, PyLadies PDX, Girls Inc. hosted by Cambia!

Portland often prides itself on being inclusive, and the tech scene is no exception. We think of ourselves as being the welcoming tech city and congratulate ourselves for our diversity pledges. We read stories and articles on our feeds depicting the inequities — and sometimes monstrosities — our neighbors to the south, in Silicon Valley, face. We feel thankful those thingsdon’t happen here. Unfortunately, those things do happen here, often in the shadows, but those involved don’t know whom to tell or where to go.

At this year’s summer soiree, our theme is dedicated to openly discussing how we can change the Portland tech culture to be more inclusive, moving away from the bro-culture, and discussing how this community and our allies can work together to make the Portland tech scene a more welcoming place for all. Our conversation starter is “Which label are you sick of hearing in Tech? (e.g. bro-grammer, lady-boss, man-splainer, etc...).”

Event Agenda:

5:30pm - Doors open

6:15pm - Introductions

6:30pm - Panel begins

7:30pm - Networking

The summer soiree is a mixture of networking and speaking segments, and we will be joined by a diverse group of panelists who will share their stories and insights, leaving us with ideas and next steps to strive for the change we desire:

• Moderator: Terra Soma, Senior Organizational Development and Change Consultant at Legacy Health

• Lori DeLone, CIO Health Plans at Cambia

• Ryan Carson, CEO Treehouse

• Deena Pierott, Founder iUrbanTeen and Black Women in Tech Advisory Board member

• Katharine Nester, Chief Product and Technology Office Ruby Receptionists

During the event, we’ll have an Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
