Vizify and Path.to: Reinventing the job search
220 Studio

First, there were HotJobs and Monster. Then, LinkedIn disrupted the job search market. But since then, innovative solutions for job seekers and people looking to hire have been few and far between. Now, a new generation of products are looking to pick up where LinkedIn left off, enabling both those searching and those hiring to find better connections in the job market.

Portland-based Vizify just released their online profiles, a new way to present yourself online. Taking a step beyond traditional Web-based resumes, Vizify combs through your online profiles, analyzes your behavior, and delivers a customized view of your online profile. Not only is it a visually compelling means of presenting yourself online, it also provide potential employers with a one-stop resource for exploring your skills and talents.

Soon to be available in Portland, Path.to puts the power of your social graph to work, enabling you to find jobs you'll actually love. Why should personalized recommendations be relagated to restaurants and products? Path.to connects you with the right job opportunities in technology and design through personalized recommendations from people you trust.

Join Todd Silverstein, CEO of Vizify, and Pete Cochrane, COO of Path.to, for a discussion about how their respective companies are changing the way you present yourself online and find the employment you're seeking.

BONUS Finding the right location to hold events can be a challenge. Tha'ts why we're happy to report we've found a new, affordable location to host tech events. Even if you're not actively looking for a new gig, please join us to test drive 220 Studio, right next door to Voodoo Doughnut.

Indie.vc v 3.0 - Winter Tour 2019
Autodesk

Over the last few years, we’ve had the chance to host many events that expose founders to an alternative universe where companies they’ve been told can’t be built without massive amounts of VC funding are thriving with little, to no, outside investment. We often start these events by warning attendees that they won’t be able to unsee what they’re about to see. Many leave these events with a whole new perspective on not only what is possible, but why limiting exposure the traditional venture business model is beneficial for founders, employees and the cultures and values they’re hoping to embody with their businesses.

Rather than write another blog post or clever FAQ, we wanted to bring that same in-person experience to those considering investment from Indie.vc.

Over the next 2 months, we’ll be embarking on a tour of most major metros in the US (we tried picking towns that were a short-ish road trip away from just about anywhere). Our goal with these info sessions is to share our experiences and motives directly with the Indie-curious. They are open to founders interested in taking investment from Indie.vc and Angels/Funds interested in funding companies the way we do. We’re planning to have some founders we’ve backed, and founders who’ve built and scaled profitable businesses, join us for these events to answer questions and share their experiences embracing the values and tactics we preach.

RSVP at https://indie.vc

Proudly hosted by PIE and PIE Shop in collaboration with Autodesk

Apply to PIE: Question and answer session (evening)
Autodesk Inc

Thinking about applying to PIE or PIE Shop? Have questions about the program? Curious as to what an accelerator even does? Wondering if the format is right for you? Cool. Let's talk about that. All of that.

Please join PIE at Autodesk for a question and answer session to get more information on our programs and the benefits for early stage startups.

Questions about the differences between the two programs causing you to second guess whether you should even show up? Well, let's get that one answered first. Yes. The answer is yes. If you're a founder of an early stage startup, you should show up.

And in terms of the differences? PIE is an accelerator designed to support startups building digital products. PIE Shop is an incubator/accelerator designed to support startups manufacturing physical products.

We're looking forward to seeing you.

CW Talk: Jason Glaspey "Think Smaller: Building Lifestyle Startups"
Bagdad Theater and Pub

"Think Smaller: How smaller, lifestyle startups are more likely succeed"

Save the date! This month's speaker is Jason Glaspey. Jason is the Product Manager at UrbanAirship, co-founder of PIE (Portland Incubator Experiment at Weiden+Kennedy) and author of "From Idea to Web Start-up in 21 Days".

Jason has done a number of successful startups and has a number of failures. He's built lifestyle startups from scratch that pay his bills, ran a blog that let him drive a different new car every week, had projects fall flat on their face, and worked in venture-funded companies like UrbanAirship.

Here are some of the things he'll be talking about:

  • Defining what Success means
  • Being Realistic about exits
  • Discussing the failures
  • Hiring out developers
  • Finding partners
  • Shopping out menial tasks
  • Retirement means I work on what I want, when I want, with whom I want

The event is being sponsored by Cloudability. Cloudability lets you manage all your cloud billing in one place. Cloudability will be offering early access to its beta launch next month to all attendees (as well as free beer and wine.)

We have a private room upstairs in the Backstage Bar behind the Bagdad Theatre on Hawthorne St.

Get Started: Portland's Creative Community and the Startup Scene
Bing Lounge

Portland has hit the radar: Business Week has noted the stunning growth of our tech scene. Local start-ups are actually being funded fueling awareness and rivaling Portland’s larger competitors (like San Francisco).

The fuel for the fire? Accelerators (PIE: Portland Incubator Experiment) in partnership with leading brands, technology innovators, and trend setting local agencies (Wieden+Kennedy); Upstart Labs is helping grow local companies Chirpify and Celly; and the Nike+ Accelerator is powering TechStars and Nike.

PAF’s GET STARTED gives you a front-row seat by bringing together the leaders of PIE, Upstart and Nike+ Accelerator. Unearthing the magic behind growing startups, they’ll outline how advertising and digital agencies can and are providing guidance and support to bring companies to life. You’ll learn how your agency/company can participate in this trend and how you’ll benefit and grow from your own tech chops alongside your startup partners.
