In today's volatile business environment, it's vitally important to create an Agile environment that enables the benefits realization of our Agile development practices and engages and empowers each of us with the autonomy to create value and pursue mastery. Many of our organizations HR processes and people management systems are doing the exact opposite and creating an enterprise blocker to effective agile adoption and increasing individuals frustration, disengagement and attrition.
This calls for new ways of thinking and new ways of approaching performance and people management.
Please join us for an interactive evening where we will review some drivers and catalysts behind some new performance management practices emerging from organizations like Adobe and Microsoft and explore new evidence from the field of neuroscience as well as share ideas on how we can build a case for change in our organizations. We'll explore practical approaches as well as some simple tools for crafting our personal career strategy and creating support structures with career circles.

Pat has deep domain expertise in enterprise Agile Accounting, PMO, Portfolio Management, Dev Ops, Change, Compliance, Performance Management and Adaptive career processes and practices. She has a proven track record of leading and coaching teams that have transformed Fortune 500 companies. Pat excels in leveraging cutting edge technology, delivery and project management methods to solve challenging business problems with impressive results across a wide range of industries including her work as Executive Director for 15 years at the Walt Disney Company, 5 years at Universal Studios / GE and 8 years at Gap Inc. Pat is passionate about creating healthy, high performing and learning teams. She designed, co-created and currently teaches the Agile Management Certificate program for UC Berkeley extension and has over 30 years of experience in teaching technical and business process improvement at the undergraduate, graduate and extension level as an adjunct professor. She is a popular speaker with numerous keynotes and Agile Conference sessions and workshops; and co-founded the Agile Alliance Executive Forum with Jim Highsmith. Science on Tap is a science lecture series where you can sit back, enjoy a pint, and laugh while you learn. You don’t have to be a science geek to have fun—all you need is a thirst for knowledge!
Event Description:
Hanford Nuclear Reservation, located on the Columbia River in eastern Washington, is the largest contaminated site in the western hemisphere. Used to make plutonium for nuclear bombs during WWII and the Cold War, the Hanford site generated vast quantities of chemical and radioactive pollution. Cleanup at Hanford began in 1989 and we know it will now continue for generations to come.
At this Science on Tap, Abigail Cermak, Hanford Coordinator with Columbia Riverkeeper, Dirk Dunning, Chemical Engineer & Nuclear Specialist from the Oregon Department of Energy, and Tom Carpenter, the Executive Director of Hanford Challenge will talk about the history of Hanford, how we built the atomic bomb, and what the government is doing to clean up the nuclear waste.

In today’s world of smartphones, tablets and MacBooks, it’s easy to forget that these computers evolved from machines that filled entire rooms. But they did!
The Living Computer Museum, located in Seattle, Washington, is dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and displaying working examples of the computers that have led us to the information technology we enjoy today. (You can even interact with the computers there!)
The collection was assembled by Microsoft cofounder Paul G. Allen as a way to preserve the history that put him and Bill Gates on the path to founding the company, and presents the milestones in the evolution of computers and how people use them.
For our April Meetup, Bob Barnett from the Living Computer Museum will be joining us to talk about the museum, computers, and how we got to where we are today. We first met Bob when he came to eBay Portland to talk to our team, and we thought what he shared was so interesting we wanted to bring him back for all of you. (Also, he made us laugh, and we like people who make us laugh.)
Here's a short bio Bob put together at our request:
"After spending 4 years in the Air Force, Bob was accepted into the Computer Science program at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, California. After completion of the program he joined the Operating Systems group and then moved on to set up the Hughes Network in Arizona and California.
Bob later took a job with aerospace company, TRW where he joined the RODS project to write the first Real Time Operating system in the US for The Bonneville Power Administration in Vancouver, WA.
After writing a Microwave Communication System, Bob worked with the Portland Police Dispatch System design team while working at Boeing Computer Services.
In the mid-70s, Bob joined Pat Terrell to grow a chain of Byte Shops in the Northwest.
Bob has an entrepreneurial side and, as such, has founded a software company and joined several start-ups over the course of his career. His most recent venture has been joining forces with his longtime friend, Paul Allen, to start the Living Computer Museum in Seattle, WA."

Hello all!
We had an awesome meetup last week at Jama with some great talks. Thanks to everyone that took time from their schedule to come out.
In May, we're very excited to announce that Areeb Malik from Facebook's Ads Team will be presenting his talk, "Going Big with React", which will focus on the strengths of a unidirectional data flow architecture in apps with several engineers and megabytes of client-side code. [Here is a link to this talk from last year](https://skillsmatter.com/skillscasts/5429-going-big-with-react). Areeb will be catering this talk to our React users community here, so please come prepared to ask questions and expect an interesting conversation after his talk.
Jama Software has graciously offered their event space again for this meeting. Food will also be provided by Idealist.org, please come at 6pm to enjoy some dinner and socializing.
