create Calagator::Event 1250460478 [Beer and Blog] Paul Bingman: Friend to All, Giant of Heart Roll back

description nil As most of you know, our beloved film/tech/train/jazz/labyrinth/werewolf/volunteering-loving Renaissance man Paul Bingman passed away from cancer on April 3, 2011. A private memorial in his honor is planned for this Sunday, April 17, at the Portland Art Museum’s Whitsell Auditorium. All are welcome (There will be chocolate! And a labyrinth!) but you must RSVP because there is a capacity cap. You can do that here: http://friendsofpaulbingman.eventbrite.com/ What you might not know is that the organization planning the memorial--they appropriately call themselves Friend’s of Paul Bingman--is raising funds to cover the expenses related to the memorial. They are also raising money to donate to two of his favorite organizations in his name: The Northwest Film Center and The Trinity Labyrinth Guild. You can donate money via this website: http://paulbingman.chipin.com/memorial-event-for-paul-bingman Because Paul’s interests were so varied and vast (and so are the friends he made) the Friend’s of Paul Bingman group is asking all of us help spread the word about his memorial. Not all of the lives he touched are Internet savvy, so they might not know about the memorial. They might not even know that Paul has passed. So, if you’re part of a group that Paul had been involved with, we ask that you share the news of his death and invite anyone who may have experienced his bear hugs and kindness to RSVP and attend the memorial. This Friday’s Beer and Blog meetup is dedicated to the memory of our dedicated friendly soul Paul, the man everyone loved so much. We’ll be accepting donations to turn over to the Friend’s of Paul Bingman group. And we’ll be sharing stories about the giant with the giant heart. We hope to see you there. I know Paul will be, in spirit.

update Calagator::Event 1250460427 Sizing and Prioritizing Stories – a Visual Approach to Cost/Benefit Analysis [Rose City SPIN talk] Roll back

description Sizing and Prioritizing Stories – a Visual Approach to Cost/Benefit Analysis presented by Ian Savage, McAfee This is a free talk sponsored by the Rose City SPIN. Networking starts at 5:00 PM Talk starts at 6:00 PM
Abstract
Between three different sessions at the Agile Open Northwest 2008, the author and another software professional developed a cost/benefit charting scheme that:

enables development teams and customers to prioritize features,

identifies features that should be a. quashed, b. pursued, or c. further decomposed, and

allows stakeholders to monitor and manage priorities during a project.

This quick collaboration produced a diagramming technique that can be used in Agile shops and in shops using more traditional methods. The chart is a basic Cartesian plane with Cost (Points) on the x-axis, Value on the y-axis, and something other than dots at the intersections. We call this technique Analyze This as it focuses analysis where it is needed.
Speaker Bio
A quality evangelist at McAfee, Ian is a veteran software developer, quality assurance engineer, and manager with experience in the manufacturing, financial services, construction estimating, and security domains. For more than 30 years he has worked to improve productivity and software quality through rigorous development methods and now through the pragmatic application of Agile methods. Ian serves on the Software Association of Oregon’s board and Program Committee. He co-founded and serves on SAO’s QA Forum committee and the Central Oregon chapter board. He also serves on the boards of Agile Open Northwest and Agile PDX. He is a member and supporter of the Agile Alliance and has served PNSQC in various capacities (think: free pizza). Earlier he contributed to American Society for Quality’s certification program for software quality engineers and was among the first to earn ASQ’s CSQE.
How to Register
This is a FREE lecture sponsored by the Rose City SPIN. Whether you work for a large company or a small one, corporate or self-employed, industrial or academic setting, you are welcome at the Rose City SPIN Sizing and Prioritizing Stories – a Visual Approach to Cost/Benefit Analysis presented by Ian Savage, McAfee This is a free talk sponsored by the Rose City SPIN.

Please RSVP to [email protected].
About Rose City SPIN
The Rose City Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN) is a monthly forum for networking, mutual support, and promotion of effective software practices. create Calagator::Event 1250460443 Galois Tech Talk: The OpenTheory Standard Theory Library Roll back

description nil Presented by Joe Hurd. Interactive theorem proving is tackling ever larger formalization and verification projects, and there is a critical need for theory engineering techniques to support these efforts. One such technique is cross-prover package management, which has the potential to simplify the development of logical theories and effectively share theories between different theorem prover implementations. The OpenTheory project has developed standards for packaging theories of the higher order logic implemented by the HOL family of theorem provers. What is currently missing is a standard theory library that can serve as a published contract of interoperability and contain proofs of basic properties that would otherwise appear in many theory packages. This talk will present a standard theory library for higher order logic represented as an OpenTheory package. We identify the core theory set of the HOL family of theorem provers, and describe the process of instrumenting the HOL Light theorem prover to extract a standardized version of its core theory development. We profile the axioms and theorems of our standard theory library and investigate the performance cost of separating the standard theory library into coherent hierarchical theory packages.

Let us know you're interested by completing our Volunteer Interest Form: http://bit.ly/bcp4volunteer What is BarCamp? BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. You never quite know what to expect at BarCamp. When you arrive on Friday, there will be an agenda framework (times / rooms), but the content for the sessions will be decided by the participants.
