create Calagator::Event 1250469874 West Side PubTalk(TM): Fund your Startup Roll back

description nil At this West Side PubTalk(TM) we’ll discuss how do you fund a startup when the resources of the founders and friends and family run out? There are angel investors and venture capital firms, but they aren’t the only sources of funding for startups, and they are often not the right fit. Fortunately, there are other options. Some of those options are: Seed funds in Oregon invest anywhere from $10,000 to $250,000 in startups. Banks will make loans to small businesses – but the business does have to meet some key requirements. The federal SBIR program can provide $1 million in grant funding or more At this West Side PubTalk, you’ll learn more about all three of these sources from a panel that has experience in each of these three types of funding.

update Calagator::Event 1250469830 PdxDevOps Roll back

description Join us for the Feburary meeting of PdxDevOps. Agenda: 1) Overview of Nix and NixOS by Corbin Simpson (Acquia) (second try) [Nix](http://nixos.org/nix/) is a package manager designed to perfectly isolate dependencies and yield reproducible builds. The [NixOS Linux distro](http://nixos.org/) is built on top of Nix. We'll look at how Nix relates to the modern devops environment and how it can simplify continuous integration and configuration management. 2) "Creating Efficient Dockerfiles" by Isaac Stefanek Docker can do many great things for the continuous integration and delivery process. One of the benefits that can be achieved using Docker is speeding up build and deploy times. Creating Docker files that maximize this benefit can take some work, especially if you are dealing with a bloated technology stack. We'll take a look at some common best practices that will have your Docker builds running at warp speed. The examples will be focused on building NodeJS applications, but many of the concepts will be universal for any Dockerized app. pdxdevops is a Portland, Oregon user group that explores the glorious intersection of software development and systems operations, and shares practical advice on working effectively in an era of agile infrastructure, server automation and cloud computing. The group welcomes participants interested in any related products, technologies and methodologies. The group has been meeting regularly since August 2010 for presentations, demos and discussions applicable to all skill levels, from newbies and experts. Every month 15-35 people come together to share their knowledge, projects and enthusiasm for devops – join us! Join us for the Feburary meeting of PdxDevOps. description nil Code Fellows invites online learners of all stripes to Code Oregon Labs! Last month we focused on coding for responsive websites, now let’s make ‘em dance! Gaston Figueroa of Uncorked Studios will kick off this month's session with a demo on coding for animation. The 30 min. talk/demo will focus on HTML, CSS, & JavaScript. Tutors are knowledgeable in these and other stacks. After the animation demo, it'll be open lab as usual! Together with Code Oregon and generous volunteers from the #pdxtech community, Code Fellows is happy to host this event. Each month, our goal is a 6:1 tutor-to-learner ratio, and we provide free pizza and beverages.

The community guidelines are the core of the terms of service: The following applies to the entire Collective Agency community. It is a simple statement of the expectations within which we all work. Please read it with care. Every society has rules of conduct by which the members of the society agree to abide. - Collective Agency is a society of creative persons who inhabit a common space. - In Collective Agency, individuals are prized for their individuality, but no individual has the right to inflict harm upon others or to destroy or lessen that which should be available to all. - To these ends, the following apply, in the physical workspace and, as applicable, online: 1. OWN responsibility for your actions. 2. HOLD each other accountable. 3. BE an active participant in your membership. 4. IF needed, confront with respect (how you’d like to be confronted). 5. HAVE a considerate level of voice (and language). Place cellphones on vibrate. 6. CLEAN up after yourself. 7. HELP to keep common areas tidy. 8. BE mindful of valuables; yours and others. 9. WHEN informally meeting in common areas, be considerate of other members. Book a meeting room if in doubt.

create Calagator::Event 1250469854 Programming Languages I've Been Meaning To Try But Haven't Gotten Around To Yet Roll back

description nil PLIBMTTBHGATY (Programming Languages I've Been Meaning To Try But Haven't Gotten Around To Yet) is a lightly-structured party where people get together and work on a project in a new programming language, either with or just near each other. This all started with the realization that plenty of people have a side-project in mind to work on, that it's more fun to work together, and that many of us are just waiting for a good excuse to get started. See the [main website](http://plibmttbhgaty.com) for more information, or [Eventbrite to RSVP](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/plibmttbhgaty-tickets-21843234703)!
