description nil → <p>Hi I'm a journalist here in Portland, and would be interested in putting together a joint presentation with the hackers from the March Hare collective about their open source tool suite for collecting, filtering and managing news tips on twitter and text. I helped develop a prototype for a system that would be useful for news directors like myself while I was at Stanford last year on a fellowship (<a href="http://www.newsti.ps">http://www.newsti.ps</a>) ...I had used a tool called Swiftriver, which is part of the Ushahidi project.... the basic idea is to have a multi-tiered system that will allow journalists to filter through the mess that is twitter and other social media for actual real-time news tips that are verifiable and accurate. <br> would people be interested in something like this? if so we can set a time and date for a presentation/discussion....</p>

In the first half of the course, CS 169.1x, students use Agile development methods to deploy a simple SaaS app in the cloud. They also learn about what happens after the apps are deployed to real users, including how to monitor performance, identify and fix common performance problems, and avoid compromising customer data.
