We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. And as excited as we might be to have cars that play our ’90s alternative rock Spotify playlists and let us send text messages via voice control, such things are frivolous compared to the safety and efficiency benefits that come when you wire up tractor trailers.” – Wired Magazine |

NedSpace Young Entrepreneurs YESpdx FlashPitch Social The Future Makers and Shakers of the World
Date: February 16th (Thursday)
Time: 5:45 pm to 7:30 pm
Location: NedSpace
Hosted By: Heber Miguel, founder & CEO of Eber Health
The Event
It's finally here! Our very first social event of 2017. Please join us Thursday evening for a FlashPitch Social at NedSpace, Portland's oldest startup space. At this time you’ll have the opportunity pitch your idea to a crowd of young entrepreneurs for business idea feedback or to ask for help.
If you already have a startup company, even better! The format is pretty simple: Anyone who wants to pitch their startup idea or startup will have 60 seconds and a mic to do so (no format, just tell us what you're working on). After your 60 second pitch, you’ll have time for a quick Q&A session.
During the Q&A; you can ask for help, for example if you need marketing suggestions, new business leads or are just looking for a co-founder. At NedSpace we make connections happen ;) Consider this a one-time audition for the best gig of your startup founder life.
After all the pitches are completed, you’ll have a better understanding on who is who in Portland, and what everyone is up in the great Pacific Northwest You’ll also be able to connect with other founders, services, or new business opportunity during the networking part of the event. Hope to see you all there!
Why attend?
Come to build a collaborative network, open doors to new business opportunities, and be in a close community of young entrepreneurs; the current and future makers and shakers of the world.
Who should attend?
If you took the time to read through all of this, then YOU! The event is open to all young entrepreneurs (if you feel young, then you’re good).
All NedSpace events have a Code of Conduct which all participants, members, partners, visitors, vendors, guests must abide by.

Cannabis Unconference
Roll back
| description |

→ |
The High Finance Podcast is hosting Portland’s first Cannabis Unconference revolving around the theme of the cannabis economy.
Limited to the first 50 people
Saturday February 11, 9:00am-4:00pm
NedSpace Broadway
The Event
What you don’t need is another presentation, books, or itineraries planned months ahead of time. Instead, what we all really seek when coming to an event is personal value. The best and most meaningful memories come from when we walk away with thought provoking discussions, new relationships, and those do not happen while sitting in lecture. They happen in the discussions that go on amongst the attendees.
The Goal
The goal of this unconference is to bring forth the brightest minds in the community that feel strongly around the topic of cannabis in its many versions. Then from there, to open a new doorway for opportunities to connect and learn, all while having fun and making it what you want it to be.
The Facilitator
Megan O'Leary the Director of Member Services from OEN is going to facilitate the whole unconference event. A great experienced facilitator makes the event, so prepare yourself for a wonderful time.
9:00am-10:00am Coffee & networking
10:00-11:00am Overview and group agenda setting
11:00-11:45am Session 1
11:45am-12:30pm Session 2
12:30pm-1:30pm Lunch
1:30pm-2:15pm Session 3
2:15pm-3:00pm Session 4
3:00pm-3:30pm Closing remarks
3:30pm-4:30pm please stay for the High Finance Podcast Launch
Lunch is included. Capiche.
So, what exactly is an ‘Unconference?’
Think of this as an open conference that is driven by its participants. Unlike traditional conferences, an unconference allows for flexibility, open discussion, and debate, all fueled by its attendees. Innovative conversations with some of the brightest people, important purposes and tasks discussed without any formal agenda, and unplanned dialogue led by ultimately what peaks your interest most.
Why attend?
This is your chance to learn from others, seek out answers, and openly ask questions to what matters most to you. Come to build a collaborative network, establish partnerships, and be in a close community of people that value the same or similar topics of discussion. Open your awareness to new ideas for yourself or your business.
Be exposed to new trends, latest issues, new projects, emerging businesses and tools..
Unconferences are proven to be highly productive for whatever issues people feel most strongly about. EXPECT fascinating questions, surprising results, inspiring quotes of laughter, and hard work.
How Does it Work?
Simple, we provide the theme — cannabis. When you arrive, we will kick off with an ice-breaker, introduce everyone, then break off into building the day's agenda around your needs, interests, and areas of expertise. The sessions will be broken up into 30-minute discussions and spaces are reserved for gatherings that happen throughout the day.
Who should attend?
If you took the time to read through all of this, then YOU! The event is open to anyone with an interest in the topic. The goal is to bring a diverse mix of individuals and professionals from all industries and stages of their podcast. Whether you’re a retailer, grower, packager, distributor, executive, creative, or simply just have interest in the topic of cannabis, we welcome you to join us. All NedSpace events have a Code of Conduct which all participants, members, partners, visitors, vendors, guests must abide by.

Beer of Trust Key-Signing
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
"Beer of Trust" is a key signing party with beer, and a chance to hang out and talk about PGP, encryption, and other related things!
## What's a key-signing party?
A key-signing party is a get-together with PGP users for the purpose of meeting other PGP users and signing each other's keys. This helps to extend the "web of trust" to a great degree. Also, it sometimes serves as a forum to discuss strong cryptography and related issues.
## What if I don't have a key yet?
If you don't have a PGP key yet, this is a good chance to get your feet wet. If you bring a computer, you can generate a test key at the event and experiment with sending messages to others there. It can be helpful to have someone present to walk you through the process the first time. It is recommended that you only generate a test key at the event, and later generate your real key in private. See below for links to some helpful resources for securely generating a key.
## What do I need for this party?
If you are bringing a key to sign, then make sure you bring:
* A picture ID or some other way for people to match you to your identity
* Your key ID, key type, hex fingerprint, and key size. You can print out slips of paper to hand out your key info if you'd like.
* A pen/pencil or whatever you'd like to write with
* A computer is not required, and it is not recommended to use your computer to sign keys at the event
At the event, you'll meet others, confirm their key ID in person, and swap key IDs with them. Later when you get home, you can download the full keys and sign them, then upload the signature to the keyserver or email it to them directly.
[RSVP here](http://pin13.net/BoT/2017-02-06/).

Hack the Dot: PDX Startup Week
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
A Hack the Dot is a two-hour hackathon where coding school students, junior developers, experienced developers, marketers, designers and curious web people come together to build ideas around a domain name. Our events are meant to be a quick and fun way to build a humorous (and functional) product quickly while meeting people in your tech/startup community.
There will be pizza. And beer.
What to Bring / How to Prepare:
• Bring your laptop (fully charged). Bring your charger just in case.
• Install the Atom text editor. Go here: https://atom.io/
• Setup a github.com account
How does it work?
Step 1: Attendees are broken up into random teams and assigned spirit animals to guide their efforts.
Step 2: The teams are provided with the same undisclosed domain name by Name.com, arbitrary and often hilarious.
Step 3: Teams have just two hours to come up with a functioning site inspired by that domain. The team builds the most creative and fun idea for the domain wins.
Participants will be judged on four criteria: (1) functionality, (2) design, (3) humor, and (4) creative domain name interpretation.
What do you get at the event?
FOOD!
SWAG!
FRIENDS!
How much does it cost?
It’s FREE!
Questions? Send them to HacktheDot at name.com. |

PDXWIT #Action Jeff Merkley Town Hall Event
Roll back
| description |
RSVP HERE - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdxwit-action-jeff-merkley-town-hall-event-tickets-31476477993
Since our federal House and Senate dominate the national news, we want to make sure our voices are heard. Join PDXWiT #Action on Saturday, January 28th to attend a town hall meeting with Senator Jeff Merkley.
Jeff Merkley is one of two senators who represent Oregon in Washington DC. This town hall meeting is an opportunity for all Multnomah County residents to learn more about the US government and how their policies impact our lives. All are welcome to attend.
We will be meeting 15 minutes prior to the start of the meeting out in front Cafeteria. Look for the bright green PDXWIT T-shirts.
PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering: educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events. |

<em>Doors open at 5:30 and close at 6:15. Talk starts at 6pm sharp. Please RSVP on the site.</em>
<h3>Our Topic</h3>
The web is full of myths. Not just internet memes and fake news, but widely-believed ideas that don't always add up. They get in the way of our best work. Your boss believes some of them. Your clients believe some of them. You might even believe some of them. We will explore seven big myths, how they can lead us astray in our business and design decisions, and some ways you can combat them on your future projects.
<h3>Our Presenter, Lisa Wagner</h3>
Lisa Wagner is a veteran of corporate web strategy, with almost two decades experience in website definition, design, and management. She spent much of her career helping to run <a href="http://intel.com">intel.com</a>, in a variety of roles from UX leadership to platform design to campaign and product launches.
She currently has her own consulting practice, <a href="https://www.xinnia.co/">Xinnia</a>, where she helps a variety of companies from small business, to startup, to enterprise to have more effective websites and digital marketing programs, while also advising on strategy for UX, IA, and digital platforms.
