create Calagator::Event 1250467768 Intel Design Thinking Workshop @ Startup Week Roll back

description nil Intel Corp and CENTRL Office would like to invite you to a Design Thinking workshop from 12-3pm on Friday, February 6, at CENTRL Office in the Pearl. Weąll immediately follow it up with a mini-Happy hour sponsored by Intel, where you can learn more about what we do and how you can get engaged. Space will be limited, and this private invitation will guarantee you a spot. For those who don't know, Design Thinking is a methodology for systematic innovation, much like Lean Startup. Our group at Intel is using this methodology to create new, engaging product concepts. This is your chance to experience it with us. Hope to see you there!

description nil Gather with fellow Gophers for an evening of Talks and discussion around Golang! All experience levels welcome, but this specific talk night will be more advanced! In January it was stated that Second Tuesdays of the month would always be PDXGo event night. Well, this February gets the extra fortune of having a second night thanks to a special guest from Google being in town! So there will be two nights; advanced and beginner oriented! The advanced night will be the standard time Second Tuesday Feb 10th, and special beginner night on Thursday the 12th. Schedule: Hang out and chat with other Gophers until about 6:30 Talk: Kelsey Hightower will be talking about CoreOS's new container project Rocket! Rocket is a CLI for running App Containers. The goal of rocket is to be composable, secure, and fast. Rocket is entering the same service container space as Docker, and it will be exciting to see how the two Golang projects develop and contrast! Continue discussion over beers at Baileys! Thanks to Esri R&D for hosting us once again!

update Calagator::Event 1250467759 FutureTalk with Liz Abinante and Janice Levenhagen Roll back

description #Diversity and Education in Tech# **› Please RSVP via Eventbrite [HERE](http://bit.ly/1EVal3p)** ##Programming, Education, and the American Dream## The learn to code movement has popularized the idea that coding is a skill everyone can learn. It's the American dream: learn the desirable skill and you'll succeed financially. Liz will discuss the history of the American Dream, how new programming education endeavors have repackaged it, and how the lack of awareness and analysis of this privileged rhetoric is damaging our culture and workforce. *Liz Abinante is an engineer living in Portland working for New Relic. Previously, she has served as co-leader for the Chicago chapter of Girl Develop It, where she taught and organized programming classes for women and minorities. She is infectiously enthusiastic about web development, teaching, learning, and feminism. She enjoys knitting, writing knitting programs and patterns, and hacking away on interesting problems. Her greatest dream in life is to spend her entire day surrounded by puppies while coding.* ##Women in Today's Tech## At ChickTech, we're often asked exactly why women are so underrepresented in technology. This is a hard question to answer, because it rarely is just one thing. It's a complex mix that we often call "death by a thousand cuts". Janice will guide us through the stats on technical women in various national and local tech companies and then take a dive into anecdotes that help to illustrate some of the reasons why women leave technology at twice the rate of men. *Janice Levenhagen is the Executive Director of ChickTech. She has a BS in Computer Engineering from Oregon State University and an MBA from Willamette University. She believes strongly that the diversity and strengths that women can bring will push high tech to even more impressive heights. Her inspiration for creating ChickTech came from her own experiences in computer engineering and the realization that the percentage of women in engineering isn’t going to get higher by itself.* ***› Doors will open at 5:30 for a 30-minute networking happy hour! description nil <p>Hello PDX 3D PRINTING LAB! Here at CTRL-H (ctrlh.org) we have lots of room and time for 3D printing. We'll be here Friday night until late, so bring in your half or fully functioning repraps and/or makerbots so that we can all benefit from additional exposure to various forms of 3D printing (as well as learn from what can go wrong with various forms of 3D printing)</p> <p>We have 4 functional 3D printers here for those of you who don't have your own or want to print on something other than PLA. We may also be leading a 'basics of 3D printing' workshop if there is enough demand.</p> <p>It may go late since time flies when extruding.</p>

update Calagator::Event 1250467426 Portland Ruby Brigade monthly meeting Roll back

description We'll have pizza & beer starting at 6pm, so stop by early if you want to have dinner and socialize before the presentations. # PRESENTATIONS at 7pm ### David Celis & Ben Weintraub ### Jamon Holmgren: *RubyMotion and ProMotion* I'm the owner of ClearSight, a Rails + RubyMotion (iOS & Android) design/development shop in Vancouver, WA. We do a lot of RubyMotion here at ClearSight and created one of the most popular RubyMotion gems, <a href="https://github.com/clearsightstudio/ProMotion">ProMotion</a>, as well as <a href="https://github.com/motion-kit/motion-kit/">MotionKit</a> and several other iOS-specific open source gems. The talk goes into RubyMotion basics (briefly) and then our current iOS gem stack. The demo is building a small app with ProMotion and shows how easy it is to get started with RubyMotion-iOS. # After presentations we'll have more socializing time. # Thanks to New Relic for providing the venue and beer, pizza & snacks this month! # ARRIVING BY BIKE? Cyclists are welcome to park their bikes in the New Relic office. Bikes are not allowed in the building lobby, however, and must use the freight elevator. To get your bike up to the 29th floor, enter the building's parking lot by going down the ramp at 5th and Pine. Go past the booth -- no need to pick up a ticket -- and turn right. Go straight until you almost run into the elevator lobby, then go right again. On the back side of the elevator block you'll see a beat up pair of double doors marked "freight elevator." You can get up by buzzing in with the intercom, and saying you're here for New Relic. Ride on up to the 29th floor, you'll easily find the bike parking. <em>ABOUT THE GROUP: The Portland Ruby Brigade, also known as pdxruby and pdx.rb, is a user group for Ruby programmers in the Portland, Oregon area. The group welcomes all programmers interested in the language and its implementations, tools, libraries and frameworks, such as Ruby on Rails. The group has been meeting since August 2002 for presentations, demos and discussions. Every month 35-75 people come together to share their knowledge, projects and enthusiasm for Ruby. If you'd like to present or have a topic you'd like discussed, please post to the <a href="http://groups.google.com/group/pdxruby">mailing list</a>. description nil The union of mobile technologies and applications may be a growing chance for attention. There’s no denying the innate issue of contemporary mobile technology. Morgan Stanley analysis reports that mobile net usage is growing quicker than desktop net usage, and can reach parity in late 2013. The idea for this enlargement in mobile net usage could seem evident initially. Among computing technologies, mobile computing devices area unit generally solely associate arm's reach away, creating them simple to urge to and very handy. create Calagator::Event 1250467746 AgilePDX Dntn Pub Lunch: Estimation of Business Value Roll back

description nil Last month the Pub Lunchers overwhelmingly voted to talk about estimation of business value, so here we go! Does your product management team talk about business value in terms that confound you? When you ask which story is more valuable to deliver now are you told “it’s all high priority”? Do you wonder whether it’s possible to estimate business value? Does your PO have this down pat and never blinks an eye when rapidly and masterfully prioritizing the backlog in flawless priority order? Well, then, come on down to Ringlers on Burnside for lunch on February 6th for we will be there to edify, exhort, and console you over pub grub and your favorite Friday afternoon libation. Bring your questions, stories, and hard won lessons to this roundtable where you will find your Agile comrades in arms, co-conspirators, and sages for a day. We start at 12p and end at 1p. You’ll find us in the back. RSVP’s to [email protected] are appreciated, but not required. We were 27 last month, and such numbers mean alerting the wait staff and moving the furniture are in order on the day.
