create Calagator::Event 1250471158 Galois tech talk: E3DB – Tozny’s End-to-End Encrypted Database Roll back

description nil # abstract: Project E3DB is a tool for programmers who want to build an end-to-end encrypted database with sharing into their projects. We are providing a command-line client for you to play with and a Java SDK to prototype with. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be getting feedback from you, adding features, and making it ready for production. In this talk, Isaac will discuss what E3DB is, where it’s going, and provide a tutorial for trying it out. Bring your laptop to try! More on E3DB: https://tozny.com/blog/announcing-project-e3db-the-end-to-end-encrypted-database/ Tozny is a Galois product spin-off. Our mission is to make strong crypto easy for both developers and end users. # bio: Isaac is a security researcher at Galois where he has lead authentication and collaboration projects for the DoD and IC. Isaac earned his master’s degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland, University College, and his B.S. in Computer Science from Ohio State University. In 2013, Isaac founded Tozny, a Galois spin-off company aimed at solving the password conundrum. Easier and more secure than passwords, Tozny replaces passwords with an easy-to-use cryptographic key on a user’s mobile phone.

create Calagator::Event 1250471154 Magic Night - Javascript Code Challenge Roll back

description nil Magic Night is a hands on, team oriented, Javascript coding lab, welcoming of all experience levels and backgrounds. We get together because coding is fun; fun to solve hard problems, and fun to work together. We organize into small teams to code up creative solutions to a common challenge, then after 3 hours of building, present to the group. This month, we'll be divide into teams and work together to build Yatzee. Can you and your team create a dice roller? Build a game loop? Awesome, how about multiplayer, and multi device? Websockets would be interesting to work with for this.

Building Modern Data Pipelines James Ward | Principal Platform Evangelist | Salesforce.com Our modern systems are no longer just simple CRUD apps. We now need to deal with massive, distributed, real-time data systems that ingest potentially terabytes of data, support real-time and batch analytics, do machine learning, and support a host of web and mobile app interfaces. This session will walk through architectural patterns and technologies for building these modern data pipelines. You will learn about Apache Kafka, a variety of databases, and data processing frameworks like Spark. RSVP at: https://niketechtalksdec2016.splashthat.com. update Calagator::Event 1250471150 Coding for Science and Society Meetup Roll back

description ### Coding for Science & Society Let’s get excited about open science, reproducibility, civic technology, and open data! Come meet other folks who code for science and society. RSVP on Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/Dat-Meetup/events/235968044/ There will be a few talks about work that makes society and science better through code. Speakers will present for 10-20 minutes on an idea, trend, interesting project, or open source community related to coding for science and society. If you have something to talk about, click below to fill out the form and we’ll get back to you ASAP: [Sign up for a talk here](https://goo.gl/forms/NfIq0opFx9WCbWUD3) Doors open at 5pm, Talks start 6:00pm. #### Confirmed Talks (More coming soon) ##### Dat: Peer to Peer open data for science, journalism, and government ###### The Dat Team (http://datproject.org/team) Dat is a grant-funded, open-source, decentralized data sharing tool for efficiently versioning and syncing changes to data. Built in Node.js, Dat can be used to version data locally, or to share and sync data over the internet. Dat includes an optional peer-to-peer distribution system, meaning that the more widely that a dataset is shared, the faster it is for users to retrieve or sync a copy, and the more redundant that the dataset’s availability becomes. By building tools to build and share data pipelines, we aim to bring to data a style of collaboration similar to what Git brings to source code, while bringing a style of sharing similar to what Dropbox brings to file generally. Note that while Dat is a designed as a general-purpose tool, our team focuses on its use in the sciences. *If you are attending, organizing or speaking at our event, you are required to agree with our Code of Conduct.* Questions? description nil ### Coding for Science & Society Let’s get excited about open science, reproducibility, civic technology, and open data! Come meet other folks who code for science and society. There will be a few talks about work that makes society and science better through code. #### Confirmed Talks (More coming soon) ##### Dat: Peer to Peer open data for science, journalism, and government ###### The Dat Team (http://dat-data.com/team) Dat is a grant-funded, open-source, decentralized data sharing tool for efficiently versioning and syncing changes to data. *If you are attending, organizing or speaking at our event, you are required to agree with our Code of Conduct.*

description nil RSVP HERE - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdxwit-presents-a-book-talk-daring-greatly-being-wrong-tickets-29825019436 Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. In Daring Greatly, based on twelve years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Similarly, in Being Wrong, journalist Kathryn Schulz argues that error is the fundamental human condition and should be celebrated as such. In this view, error is both a given and a gift – one that can transform our worldviews, our relationships, and, most profoundly, ourselves. Daring Greatly and Being Wrong were made for each other. Join Deeple Patel and Melody Dawn for a discussion and exploration of these two powerful books and their endless takeaways. Most of us avoid the topics of being wrong and vulnerable, but these two authors have laid out the undeniable reasons for why it is so beneficial for us to push past this fear and discomfort. Whether you read one, both or some portion of these books, you are welcome in the conversation. Come ready to share your unique perspective and learn from others’ experiences. RSVP HERE - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdxwit-presents-a-book-talk-daring-greatly-being-wrong-tickets-29825019436 PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering: educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
