create Calagator::Event 1250472305 So, How About That Eclipse? A Discussion Among Enthusiasts Roll back

description nil RSVP here: https://www.meetup.com/Consciousness-Hacking-Portland/events/242180189/ Solar eclipses have long been observed as having subtle influences on the humnan mind, body and spirit, even if science does not fully understand the mechansisms behind these effects. Correlations can be drawn in astrology, religions that worship the Sun and even changes in electromagnetic fields that may influence our brains and nervous systems. From a metaphorical perspective, an eclipse is ripe with meaning, exploring the relationship between light and dark. Not everyone will be able to get out of town to watch the total eclipse of the sun. Some may not even be able to get outside. The eclipse happens starts at 9:06a and ends at 11:38a: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/portland-or From Portland we will see a near total eclipse. If you are able to get out of town and come back to report what you saw, great! We'll show a recording and be interested to hear what you saw around you, how people and animals behaved, whether your experience was different if you were in a place where you couldn't see the sun, and anything else you observed. We'll also be talking about historical connections drawn between the eclipses and human consciousness. Note the change in location for this special event in addition to our usual monthly meetup. We expect Caldera to be a great location for this conversation! http://www.calderapublichouse.com/

create Calagator::Event 1250472303 Consciousness Hacking--What's That? Roll back

description nil Due to limited space, RSVP's are required at https://www.meetup.com/Consciousness-Hacking-Portland/events/242094974/ We’ve always known the art and craft of software development was frustratingly fun, potently world-driving, and part of an ever-expanding set of skills important to living in the modern world. But, now, there’s a field of study and experimentation that appears to show that the consciousness of the teams that develop software inform the software itself. And, there is software that is designed to heighten our consciousness. What if we used software to heighten the consciousness of software developers to build better products? And why would we care? Well: throughput, quality, humane work environments—and things like that. Our panelists will speak to these and related issues of interest to the co-hacking community. Jean Richardson is a member of the AgilePDX Coordinating Committee, an Agile coach and consultant, developer of the Pervasive Leadership theory, and co-author of “Technical Practices as a Hack on Consciousness: Why to Hack Yourself” published on InfoQ on September 1, 2016 as well as the forthcoming book /The Preservation of the Agile Heart/. In the course of her career in software development she has progressed through the software development specialties of user and technical documentation, field-based ethnographic usability research, testing, instructional design, business analysis, project management, and spent a stint as the Director of Customer Learning for a small healthcare company. Her client lists include such local luminaries as Cambia Health Systems, Portland General Electric, the City of Portland, the Oregon Department of Human Services and Oregon Health Authority, Intel, and Tripwire. azuregate.net @JeanAtAzureGate Julie Nelligan is a personal development coach and psychologist in North Portland. Julie started her career as a coder in the early 90’s focusing primarily on managing large databases before transitioning into coaching. She is also the founder of the Portland Chapter of Consciousness Hacking, a new movement to explore the use of technology in facilitating the process of elevating consciousness. Julie brings a scientific, analytical approach to considering the interface between technology and consciousness. Her work with entrepreneurs combines neurofeedback and coaching to empower them to achieve their goals and aspirations as business owners and individuals. cohack.life eeginfo.com Aaron Vannatter works as a senior software development consultant with Shiftwise in Portland, OR. create Calagator::Event 1250472300 Docker Portland, OR - Habitat - Automation that travels with your applications Roll back

description nil <p>One of the dreams of development is to build a software package once, then be able to deploy it anywhere. Come to this talk to learn how to create software packages that run (almost) anywhere. You will see how the same application can be run on bare metal, on a VM, or in a container - with everything needed to automate that application already built into the package itself. This even works with a mixed infrastructure - metal for your static compute heavy loads, vms for your persistent data stores, and ephemeral short lived containers for your applications managed by Kubernetes or other container scheduling services.</p> <p>Agenda:</p> <p>6:00 - Welcome, networking, and food</p> <p>6:30 - Nell Shamrell-Harrington - "Habitat" </p> <p>Come to this talk to learn how to build and deploy Habitat packages with the intelligence to self organize into topologies, no central orchestrator needed. Learn how the dream of platform agnostic and self organizing packages is fulfilled today and where it will evolve in the future.</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250472292 Portland Data Science Group - Designing Intelligence Roll back

description nil <p>Automation is the future of computing and conversational interfaces are the future of human-computer interactions. However, creating these systems requires us to reverse engineer some of the most fundamental aspects of life, which can be difficult and overwhelming — especially if you don’t know where to start. </p> <p><br> Designing Intelligence will: <br>• Help the you understand what’s happening in the artificial intelligence space and where it’s been. <br>• Explain why you’ll be making one of these systems sooner than you think. <br>• Teach you how to create the products that will thrive in the age of automation. <br>• Give you language to help you sell your ideas to your team and bring your dreams to life. This is one talk you’ll regret missing.</p> <p>Guest Speaker Joe Toscano will be presenting - <a href="https://twitter.com/realjoet">@realjoet</a>.</p> <p>Formerly an Experience Designer for R/GA, Joe worked as a consultant for Google, where he and his team oversaw the Google product ecosystem and helped Google take products to market. This meant he and his team had to understand how each product strategically fit within the Google ecosystem now, how each product would evolve, over time, and how the decisions being made by individual teams would affect Google’s larger business goals, as a whole. Understanding this allowed him and his team to be confident that the decisions they were making would strategically move Google’s business forward.</p> <p>Joe has since left his job at R/GA to pursue writing his book, Designing Intelligence. The book is being written to help people understand the current state of automation, where it's been and where it's going, how to design products that will thrive in the age of automation, and what role we, as technical talent, play in creating an inclusive future through automation. He hopes to help create ethical automation designers who not only understand best practices of making these systems but also understand the impact they'll be making on the world, through automation.</p> <p>Note the earlier-than-normal start time of 6p.</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250472286 Portland Javascript Magic Night - Monthly Meeting Roll back

description nil <p><b>Rock, Paper, Scissors</b></p> <p>Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to generate a program that plays a game of rock 0, paper 1, or scissors 2. no random functions allowed! the program should be entirely deterministic. (in other words if your program plays against the same opponent program more than once the sequence of moves should be the same.) your program will receive a list of your opponent's previous moves, your previous moves, and the round number; there will be 1000 rounds per match. The tournament will be round robin format, the program with the greatest number of victories will be declared the rock paper scissors champion.</p> <p> <b>PDX Magic Night</b></p> <p>Magic Night is a hands on, team oriented, Javascript coding lab, welcoming of all experience levels and backgrounds. We get together because coding is fun; fun to solve hard problems, and fun to work together. We organize into small teams to code up creative solutions to a common challenge, then after 3 hours of building, present to the group.</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250472270 PDXWIT Quarterly N/NE Lean Coffee Gathering Roll back

description nil Women and other underrepresented groups in tech, particularly those who call North and Northeast Portland home, are invited to a special Lean Coffee networking event. This is a great opportunity to cross boundaries and broaden networks in a safe space. IntraEdge Technology Service & Solutions is happy to host us at Compass Coffee Roasting. If you’d like to start your Sunday off with a casual networking event, join us! The event is geared towards those who “find ourselves at the edges of the bell curve of demographics in tech fields,” as Brittany Newhouse so eloquently put it. Don’t be intimidated by the Lean Coffee format; it’s not just for Agile practitioners. It’s simply an informal way to meet and discuss what interests and affects us. The meetup will run from 8:30-10 a.m. Be there early to make your order before we start; coffee and snacks will be provided. This event is sponsored by PDXWIT, AgilePDX and Portland Lean Coffee. Purpose:<br> PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events.
