Write the Docs Portland meetup, Portland State University's Technical Communication group, and PDX Support Driven meetup are combining forces for a very fascinating look into the lives of documentarians, Technical Writing students, and support professionals.
We'll have two members from each group share with attendees what their work day is like. After the "Day in the Life of..." stories, we have an opportunity to ask presenters questions and form breakout groups where attendees can converse with others based on common topics of interest.
Join us on Tuesday, October 16th, from 6 to 8 pm.

Use your skills in web development, storytelling, and creative ideation to build a humorous (maybe even functional!) product, while meeting people in your tech/startup community. This quarter we're teaming up with pdxFLIT and Puppet Labs. Join us!
*How does it work?*
At a domain-driven hackathon, all of the teams are given a single premium domain name at the beginning of the event. All teams then have two hours to come up with a product inspired by that domain, fueled by food and beverage. Whichever team builds and pitches the most creative and funny idea for the domain wins!

Looking to get started with Power BI?
Bring your laptop to this hands-on tutorial on Microsoft Power BI. At this meeting of Office 365 PDX we’ll be talking about how end-users can get to work with Power BI. We're thinking of this class as a "Power BI Flight School", where we are teaching the basics of how end-users will navigate and use Power BI, not how to build or maintain complex reports.
We will dive into viewing dashboards, reports, understanding natural language query, Excel, and the other tools a user needs. No prior experience with Power BI is necessary, this session is not very technical, and we’ll be handing out log-in information to get you hands-on in a pre-built environment. Just bring a modern laptop with wifi and an up-to-date web browser. |

Tungsten Fabric (http://www.tungsten.io; formerly OpenContrail) is an open source, scalable and multi-cloud networking platform. Large enterprises and service providers are using it at massive production scale, and this meetup offers some tips, insights, and "don't go theres" from users with success stories (and some battle scars).
Come to this meetup to learn how users are deploying Tungsten Fabric for load balancing, HA, service chaining, analytics/orchestration and extending network to multi private / public clouds viz., AWS, Azure and Google.
Sanju Abraham will be our speaker. Sanju Abraham will deliver a project overview, showcase users and use cases. Then, we’ll dive into a demo of Kubernetes with Tungsten Fabric across onprem and AWS. We’ll demonstrate the ability to access Kubernetes and launch new containers, access the Tungsten Fabric UI, and observe the network state.
Tungsten Fabric is integrated with Kubernetes, VMware and OpenStack. It also supports public cloud deployments including AWS, Google and Azure. As both Enterprise and Telco IT architectures evolve, supporting multi-cloud environments is table stakes. This meetup will lay out how users can quickly get going with Tungsten Fabric, using software-driven networking and policy management to operate in a multi-cloud environment.
If you’re interested in networking for private clouds running OpenStack, Kubernetes, and VMware that also rely on services from AWS, Google and Azure, this meetup is for you!

The PMI Agile Roundtable provides a forum for exchanging ideas, techniques and real world experiences (good and bad) in managing agile projects. This round table alternates between speakers and specific topics (watch Twitter and LinkedIn for details), traditional brainstorming and voting on 2 to 3 focus topics from the group, and a new online Lean Coffee format we are eager to try out.
Although sponsored by PMI, all roles and backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to participate / debate. We value the variety of perspectives and levels of experience with agile practices.
This month the round table is in transition to a virtual forum that will provide more flexibility for attendees. As a group, we'll be discussing what we want from from a forum such as this; we'll look at the Lean Coffee Table tool for managing lean coffee sessions and (if time is available) selecting agile-related topics / issues.
Come join us and help us create and develop an agile community focused on providing value.

While many of us agree with IBM CEO Thomas Watson Jr.’s famous declaration that “good design is good business,” we often struggle to be able to prove it. As a systems thinker, Deb Mrazek has developed an array of frameworks, tools, and platforms to leverage the power of design and systems thinking at project, group, organizational and global levels, bridging the language of design and the language of business. She has authored and presented on the topic of Design Value for over 10 years, including co-authoring the seminal article “The DMI Design Value Scorecard: A New Design Measurement and Management Model.” In 2015, she was recognized by the Design Management Institute for her contributions to the design industry about Design Value. In 2017, Deb co-founded Curiate.co to help people cultivate the quality, profile and value of design in their organizations through workshops, embedded consulting and tailored coaching. She believes that only by bridging the language and thinking of business and design can the true value of design truly be realized.
