6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Welcoming talk, ignite presentations
8:00 p.m. - Closing and Networking
Speakers will be presenting using the ignite format. Ignite is a series of speedy presentation. Speakers get 20 slides, which automatically advance every 15 seconds. The result is a fast, fun, and interesting presentation which lasts just 5 minutes.

Bikram will provide his insights into what to look out for in IoT and MIoT. The "internet of things" and especially the "internet of medical things” can empower us with new insights and enable remarkable capabilities for managing our lives and health. In most cases, we need to need to rethink how we integrate this into our existing infrastructure and tools, and how to utilize all this novel information to its full potential.
About the Speaker
Bikram Day is a Solutions Architect for Capsule Technologies, and focuses on designing medical device data integration solutions and informatics consulting for major Hospitals and IDNs. He is currently part of the pre-sales team at Capsule, but has previously been in roles with product and development at Capsule over the past 13 years.
He is also affiliate faculty at the Department of Medical Informatics & Clinical Epidemiology, Oregon Health and Sciences University.
Bikram's specialities include clinical device and systems interfacing - Bedside Medical Device Integration (BMDI), systems and network architecture and design - particularly medical informatics systems, network and systems security and HIPAA, and systems provisioning and deployment.

Do none of the above questions make any sense, but you're interested in computer security?</p> <p>PDX Exploit Workshop is the longest running security meetup in Portland (10 years!). It's an open, self driven event for people interested in computer security. Whether you're a novice or career professional, all are welcome. It's always a good time to learn about security!</p> <p>We spend this dedicated time each week researching and exploring topics of software and hardware security as well as working on personal and group projects. Occasionally we have presentations on our findings. Technically speaking, latch-up is a short circuit, an inadvertent path of low-impedance. We have co-opted this word to represent what we’d like to encourage among members of the community: paths of communication leading to collaboration, inadvertent or not.
Latch-Up 2019 in Portland opens a new chapter for the FOSSi Foundation, with it being the first event in the spirit of ORConf held in North America. Latch-Up is a community-focused conference for open source semiconductor, digital design and embedded systems professionals and enthusiasts. Expect presentations on a wide range of topics; open source IP blocks and SoCs, open source simulators, compilers, synthesis and physical implementation tools for both FPGA and ASIC.
Latch-Up aims to bring together the North American open source digital design community for an event in the mould of ORConf - the FOSSi Foundation’s annual European community conference. Like ORConf, Latch-Up will be will be free to attend and consist of a relaxed format of presentations and discussions throughout a weekend, with plenty of time for networking. A dinner on the Saturday evening will be arranged and all attendees are invited to attend.
These events go to the FOSSi Foundation's goal of lowering barriers of entry to the digital design field, whilst encouraging the open source development model and promoting open collaboration.
We recognise the keen interest in this area in the Americas and this year are putting effort into organizing an event which will encourage wider awareness amongst enthusiasts of the projects that we’ve been hearing about at ORConf since 2012.

Many people starting out in the software industry experience frustration when work conversations are riddled with acronyms or tech jargon they do not understand. They become overwhelmed by the enormous amount of information to learn and do not know where to start. To rectify that, we have a group of women speaking who can demystify some of the tools, jargon, and jobs around software:
Polina Vorozheykina, a software engineer at New Relic, will share her experience entering the industry into a far more senior team of 12 engineers. She will cover useful terminology to know, how to go about asking questions, and how to begin building broad software expertise.
Ashley Puls, a distinguished engineer and architect at New Relic, will cover some useful tools and terminology engineers encounter on a daily basis.
Elisa Binette, a Director of Software Engineering at New Relic, will demystify some of the roles and job titles used in the technology industry. What’s a full stack, front end, or backend engineer? What’s a DBA? What are the key differences between a senior, lead, or engineering manager?
Afterwards, beginning engineers should better understand common technology terms and the desired skills within each role. They should have a “lay of the land” and feel empowered to go out and learn.

PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
