create Calagator::Event 1250476753 Galentine's Day: How to Make Friends as Professional Women Roll back

description nil While it might seem tough to maintain and cultivate friendships as a professional woman, the joy that stems from spending time with a close companion is immeasurable. Sometimes you just need a friendly shoulder to cry on when things turn sour. Or an ear to share your oh-so-exciting job news with! Too often we assume we don't have enough time in the day to be with friends. But that's what makes Galentine's Day so special — it gives you a full 24 hours to celebrate the friendships that make your life so wonderful. "Galentine's Day: How to Make Friends as Professional Women" is a festive opportunity to really honor the power of friendships. Bring your pals to honor each other over free food and drink - we'll have boozy and non-boozy drinks available. There will be an array of local, successful women speaking on a panel that focuses on the importance of friendships while toiling away in the working world. They'll talk of ways to cultivate friendships, and how to avoid the misconception that you can't make friends as an adult. There'll also be a fun ribbon activity that helps unite introverts, extroverts, and everyone in between. As well as a Valentine's Day card station - write up a message of love for your bestie and we'll stamp and send it for ya! ***Plus! Proceeds from this event will be going to Rose Haven - a local day shelter for women and children.*** Join us today to snag a seat amongst a bunch of amazing women! Meet the Panelists: Julia Andrews represents the National Association of Women Sales Professionals as the Chapter President for Portland, OR and is the founder and creator of The Art of Feminine Selling™, a sales methodology that highlights empathy and vulnerability as a strength with an emphasis on mindset and authenticity to self. She is a sales coach and a sales-team strategist who's sold over $215M in sales and who bring her expertise from working over 2 decades as a top-tier performer in corporate financial services to help and support women not be afraid of selling and achieve the financial success they envision for themselves. Before moving to the U.S. Julia shares that one of her biggest adventures was learning English as a second language while at the same time learning how to sell as she needed to alleviate the household burden to her single mother with 5 children. As she describes it, "Sales was my second language and English was my third." --- Blaire Hervey was born in Dallas, TX, raised in Louisville, KY, and launched a career as a highly competitive Sales Professional in Atlanta, GA. description nil ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdxwit-presents-vancouver-mixer-tickets-91383034115] is required to gain entry to this event *** The Power of Networking! Most of us remember our first job: babysitting, dog walking, or pet sitting the neighbor's fish. Most of us don't realize that we got our first job thanks to networking. It was who we knew that needed these jobs done, not what we knew. When it comes to jobs as adults, the same principles apply. Learn how to get to know the right people, grow your network, stand out at networking events, and leverage the people you meet for your next career move with Hannah Michelotti. She is the CEO and founder of Articulate LLC where she does public speaking, presenting, pitching, and communication coaching for clients and businesses. She helps clients and businesses that want to grow their networks, gain more clients, and increase revenue. She'll have great information to share whether you're going for your first tech job or reinventing yourself for your next tech job. Agenda: 5:30 p.m. - Doors open and Networking 6:30 to 6:40 p.m. - PDXWIT Announcements 6:40 to 7:00 p.m. - Speaker Presentation 7:00 p.m. - Networking 7:30 p.m. - Event ends Event FAQ Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms? A: Yes. Q: Is the space ADA accessible? A: Yes. Q: Will there be food and drink at this event? A: Yes. Q: What is the parking situation? A: Yes. There is parking available for a nominal fee. Q: Is there any special information that might help me find the entrance? A: The South Patio entrance is the main entrance to the space. There is also an East entrance which is near the bathrooms. The North entrance to the building is our Office of Student Involvement, so we recommend using another entrance. The doors should stay open for the duration of the event . Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: Bike Parking: https://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/parking-services/alternative-commute-options Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A:https://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/parking-services/alternative-commute-options Q: Can I bring my dog? A: No, we ask that you leave your furry friend home. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

create Calagator::Event 1250476735 PDX Python and Pyladies PDX Present Monthly Presentation Night Roll back

description nil Big thanks to Accelebrate (https://www.accelebrate.com/) and New Relic (https://newrelic.com/about/culture) for sponsoring us this month! Come join us downtown at New Relic for Pythonic talks! We've got two great talks this month! TALK 1: Python >= Super Glue How Python was used to integrate various hardware and programs into a free and open source music center that can even be run on the Raspberry Pi. By Athan Spathas This talk will discuss the development of the Glass Beatstation, a modular interface for making music on Linux Athan Spathas makes music, is involved with Snowdrift.coop, teaches robotics, and works to support Free / Libre / Open source software: particularly Linux-based music production. He is a self taught Python programmer, it is by far his favorite programming language. TALK 2: What PHP learned from Python By Adam Harvey In 2015, the PHP project released version 7.0 of the PHP language. An advantage PHP had was that Python had gone through a similar process with Python 3 seven years earlier. I’ll discuss the lessons taken from the Python 2-3 transition, and how they were applied. Adam is a software developer who has worked on a number of interesting and occasionally even useful things in his two decade career. These include prototyping the worst mesh network of all time (based on Android phones), discovering how to reliably lock up a Windows computer by writing an in-browser video editor, and (most usefully) removing the original mysql_* API from PHP. Today he works at New Relic on their PHP and C language support. Join us on our python.org mailing list (http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/portland) and on #pdxpython on Freenode. All are welcome!

When parking here it is like parking on the street. There is not someone monitoring this area. Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: There is a trolley that comes past our building, but it's by no means necessary. Q: Can I bring my dog?
