TiE Oregon's Pitch Club / Mock Investor Meeting
Roll back
| description |

→ |
Pitch Club is an event where entrepreneurs learn the criteria and methods used by real investors to evaluate their venture as a potential investment. This is done by recreating a typical investor meeting where a few companies pitch and receive feedback from TiE Oregon Charter Members.
Who facilitates Pitch Club?
Pitch Club is organized by Kari Naone, TiE Oregon Executive Director and led by Robin Jones a TiE Charter Member who is an investor and successful entrepreneur.
What to expect?
Each attendee who intends to pitch should prepare a five minute pitch presentation. (This can include a power point projection that will be presented from your computer.) Directly after pitching, a 5-10 minutes of Q&A and general feedback session will take place.
Those who attend pitch club will walk away with a better understanding of what investors look for in a pitch and how to answer the questions possible investor will ask. In addition, each presenter will receive a digital copy of their pitch and feedback from their peers and TiE Charter Members. |

TiE Oregon Functional Workshop - Company Valuation
Roll back
| description |

please join us each month for timely discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities. This month Naomi Derner CFA, Managing Director of Vantage Point Advisors will talk to us about company valuation.
Entrepreneurs seeking their first round of funding may be asked about their company’s valuation by potential investors. Most new founders have no experience or training in valuation, and may pick a number without any support or rationale, or accept a valuation suggested by an investor without understanding what it means.
In this workshop, we will help you prepare for these conversations.
-- Demystify the language and math used by investors around valuation.
-- Techniques for estimating the value of your company….even if you are pre-revenue.
-- Why your valuation matters, and why sometimes it doesn’t. |

Did you know that, on June 2, 2015, the Oakland City Council established the first municipal Privacy Commission in the United States?
What is a privacy advisory commission? What types of privacy issues does it address? Who does it advise? How does it work? Should Portland have one?
These are some of the questions we'll explore this month as the City of Portland looks to rethink surveillance.
Brian Hofer, Executive Director of Secure Justice and Chair of the Oakland Privacy Advisory Commission, will join us to talk about his work on Oakland's commission and how that agency came into being. He'll also talk about how such an advisory body might work here in Portland.
This is a great opportunity to learn about potential privacy-related happenings in Portland and how you can get involved. Bring your questions and join the discussion. We hope to see you there!
Speaker bio:
Brian Hofer is Executive Director of Secure Justice and Chair of the Oakland Privacy Advisory Commission. He was instrumental in the formation of an ad-hoc citizen committee to start drafting privacy policies for the City of Oakland and successfully fought for a permanent committee tasked with oversight of surveillance equipment. That committee is now the Oakland Privacy Advisory Commission.
Brian also successfully introduced ordinances throughout the greater Bay Area at both the county and city level to implement significant surveillance equipment reforms, advised on and advocated for state legislation impacting the right to privacy and surveillance oversight, and coordinated with and advised groups around the country on how to implement reforms through legislation and policy writing. He is presently consulting with various cities across the country regarding citizen oversight and participation pertaining to surveillance equipment and data sharing, Smart City regulations, and various “sanctuary” supporting legislative projects.

***Registration through Zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_rTbp863OSTSxU0jyjIhRlA is required to gain entry to this virtual event***
Join our Inaugural Native Americans in Tech mixer. We’re creating a decolonized space for Native Americans who work in tech or want to.
This community is exclusively for indigenous people of North America. This group is for folks that have a grounding in their Native American identity. We want to center the experiences of indigenous people that are rooted in their ways, recognizing the varied experiences of indigeneity for those who have had barriers in reclaiming their culture.
This event will feature an overview of the initiative, talks by Native Americans working in tech, and a chance for “face-to-face” networking over Zoom facilitated by Erin Grace (Chetco, Tututni) and Court Morse (Chippewa, Ojibwe, Anishinaabeg).
We will have ASL interpretation and live closed captioning throughout.
Hope to see you there!
Agenda:
5:00 p.m. - Zoom Webinar Open/Virtual Networking
5:05 p.m. - Introductions + Announcements
5:10 p.m. - Lightning Talks
5:30 p.m. - Networking
6:15 p.m. - Event ends
Purpose:
We are building a better tech industry by creating access, dismantling barriers and fueling belonging. |

Application Security -- The Framework, Processes and Tools to Secure Your Apps
Roll back

Excerpt:
Traditionally, breaches that make the news are about stealing data and that data being resold for financial gains. Think Target, Ashley Madison, Marriott and so many more. Recently a spotlight was put on supply chain security via the SolarWinds breach and how that affected many companies. The adversaries were able to inject malicious code into applications that have a lot or rights and are widely deployed in many organizations, small and large alike.
We will discuss the framework, your SDLC (SDL, SSDLC, etc.) – Secure Development Lifecycle – to lay out how you are going to develop and secure your applications. Customers care about this. Once you have your SDLC, you need to define your processes, select your tools, integrate them into your SDLC and finally automate those tools. This is not a short process and often multiple iterations are necessary to get to a good place. The goal of this presentation is to make you aware of a variety of tools that are out there, the various steps along the way of your SDLC you need to take and how to complete each of these steps.

Portland Lunch 2.0: Virtually
Roll back

Just because we're still socially distanced doesn't mean we can't connect.
As the weather starts to change, vaccines continue to roll out, and the glimmer of recovery grows ever brighter, there's no better time to reconnect with folks in the community with whom you've lost touch. And there's no better way to gather with a random smattering of your startup community peers than Portland Lunch 2.0.
No agenda. No talks. Just lunch with your community.
And while we'd love to buy lunch for you like we used to, this time, there is no such thing as a free lunch. You'll have to bring your own. Or not. |

Then join PDXWIT and host ThinkShout for a discussion about women innovation, the roadblocks that exist when it comes to funding and what we can do as a community to drive the discussion forward. Privacy Advisory Commissions
Roll back
| description |

When: Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at 7pm<br>
Why: The pursuit of technology freedom
"From Armenia With Love": Reaching out on Twitter brought a presentation from a colleague:
This talk is separated into two parts: 1) How to make a presentation in 25 hours due to errors in timezone math 2) How to setup a self-hosted Cloud Environment under 360 seconds a.k.a. 6 minutes.
The "Cloud", a.k.a. Someone else's computer has been very popular because it gives you the ability to have a machine/container up and running in seconds. I will demonstrate my new script https://360cloud.sh which "turns" your default FreeBSD Installation into a cloud using FreeBSD's Networking (pf, epairs, bridge), Storage (ZFS), Containers (Jails) and Virtual Machines (bhyve via vm-bhyve) automated with small CLI tools for DHCP and DNS integration.

Is the co-founder and CEO of illuria Security, Inc., a Deception-as-a-Service company, also known as honeypots on steroids. I always wanted to write stories and be a columnist, ended up writing code and being a systems engineer.
Plan B connection information if Plan A using jit.si on linode linked above does not work. Going to this will place you in a waiting room if the other link is working.

Interviewing for a new job can be a stressful proposition, so some engineers from Amazon Web Services (AWS) got together to create this training tailored to technical job seekers. In tech, it is hard to know what to expect or how to prepare as each company evaluates its candidates differently. Luckily, some upfront investment and preparation can really go a long way in helping you distinguish yourself from the rest of the candidates. In this virtual seminar we will review some interviewing practices we’ve witnessed through our careers for technical interviews and present helpful tips to prepare. We plan to cover many beneficial topics:
Morning preparation, attire, and mindset
Non-technical preparation
How to study for the coding interview
How to execute the coding test
Due to the level of interaction required, attendance will be capped at 50.
Agenda:
12:00 p.m. - Event begins
12:08 p.m.- Intros and announcements
12:10 p.m. - Session begins
1:00 p.m. - Event ends
Mission: We are building a better tech industry by creating access, dismantling barriers and fueling belonging.

Greenwood brings 20 years of experience working with people with disabilities and will share a model for building inclusion into your organization. Greenwood will provide individuals and company leaders permission to "fail forward" and iterate.
