description More than just a hot topic and in the news, Social Media, led by its poster children Facebook® and Twitter ®, has quickly become an integral part of our society. While the use of these tools has become pervasive in our social interactions and many companies have integrated these methods into their outbound marketing strategies, there are fewer examples where Social Media has been used to drive innovation within a technology company. You will hear from both the industry perspective and the media/marketing perspective on how companies are and should be using these new social media tools foster innovation on company products, services, distribution and customer service. They will discuss collaboration, creating community environments, data mining, facilitating customer feedback and how to integrate this information and collaboration into the company’s product/service development culture. Learn to balance the opportunity promised by Social Media with the real need to protect your Intellectual Property. Join us for this informative breakfast meeting and learn how your organization can make the most of this powerful tool. Speakers: Kent Lewis, President, Anvil Media, Inc. Kent Lewis is responsible for managing operations, marketing and business development to achieve the search engine marketing agency's mission: to be one of the most respected search engine marketing agencies in the world. Matt Hixson, Senior Manager, Business Development, Tripwire, Inc. Matt leads the corporate social media strategy and oversees the team dedicated to its implementation. In this capacity, he introduced the first internal blogs within Tripwire to facilitate the exchange of best practices among employees, led the creation of Tripwire’s online user communities and spearheaded the company's presence on Twitter. Allan Schrock, Sr. Researcher, Nike, Inc. Allan Schrock works at Nike as a technology researcher in the research and development group known as the “Innovation Kitchen.” He has managed patent prosecution and contract negotiations for Nike as well. update Calagator::Event 1250459418 Galois Tech Talk: Copilot: A Hard Real-Time Runtime Monitor Roll back

description Presented by Lee Pike. We address the problem of runtime monitoring for hard real-time programs—a domain in which correctness is critical yet has largely been overlooked in the runtime monitoring community. We describe the challenges to runtime monitoring for this domain as well as an approach to satisfy the challenges. The core of our approach is a language and compiler called Copilot. Copilot is a stream-based dataflow language that generates small constant-time and constant-space C programs, implementing embedded monitors. Copilot also generates its own scheduler, obviating the need for an underlying real-time operating system. This talk will include fun pictures and videos. Presented by Lee Pike. description nil It's been nearly a decade since the last big changes to HTML, which frankly weren't all that interesting. But this time it's different. With all the excitement around the latest features and browsers, it's time to take a closer look, especially if you've been heads-down on Silverlight, like I have been. If you haven't had time to look into the HTML5 family of technologies, it's time to start. Scott Stanfield is the CEO of Vertigo Software, Inc.

create Calagator::Event 1250459407 Semantic Beer and Blog - Marco Neumann Roll back

description nil Portland Semantic Web Interest Group Marco Neumann, organizer of the Lotico San Francisco Semantic Web meetup group is coming to Portland this week, and he'd like to meet everyone! I'll be joining Marco at the Green Dragon in SE Portland this Friday at 6pm for socializing. Since this is also Beer and Blog, many of us would already be planning on attending. I'm not seeing Beer and Blog on Calagator, but I think we can soldier on if it's not happening. description nil A polyglot programming group meeting in the heart of The Beave. We seem to talk a lot about oddball programming languages and their features. And the usual geekery you'd expect from a programmer's group. We're out on the west side but all are welcome. This is a social month. No planned presentations.

create Calagator::Event 1250459404 PADNUG November Meeting Roll back

description nil Please join us next Tuesday night for another great PADNUG event! WHERE: Microsoft Portland Office located in Lincoln Tower 10260 SW Greenburg Road Suite 600 Portland, OR 97223 Map: http://bit.ly/9M9dNZ WHEN: Tuesday 11/02/2010 6:00 p.m. Pizza (by Ascentium) 6:30 p.m. Presentation ~8:30 p.m. After Words at Gustav's WHO: Patrick Cauldwell Patrick is a Software Engineer/Tech Lead at WebMD, an Adjunct Instructor at Oregon Institute of Technology, and a noted author. He has held a variety of development, leadership and educational positions in the Portland-area software industry. Patrick is also a Certified Scrum Master. TOPIC: Workflow 4 Many real world business processes lend themselves well to being modeled as a formal work flow, and using a work flow framework can make the task of modeling much easier. Windows Workflow 4 provides a design surface, programming model, and toolset that make it easy for developers to model work flows, while taking advantage of a rich platform and set of services. WF 4 is much simpler to use and understand than the previous offerings, and is much more tightly integrated with WCF. We'll look at what WF is good for, what it's best at, and how the WCF integration makes it easy to develop "durable services" and "long running" workflows. create Calagator::Event 1250459400 Personal Telco Project Monthly Meeting Roll back

description nil The Personal Telco Project actually still exists! Did you know that? Well, we do. No, really. We do! We are still here, helping educate and support people sharing their internet connections, for the 10th consecutive year. Will Personal Telco continue to exist in the future? Ah, now that is kind of up to you all. It *probably* will continue to exist, but it could be so much more if people like you that care come along and help out. Are you going to be that person? Or are you going to trust, against your understanding of the laws of physics, that an organization like the Personal Telco Project can persist without the continuous injection of volunteer spirit and enthusiasm. Be that difference.
