create Calagator::Event 1250460443 Galois Tech Talk: The OpenTheory Standard Theory Library Roll back

description nil Presented by Joe Hurd. Interactive theorem proving is tackling ever larger formalization and verification projects, and there is a critical need for theory engineering techniques to support these efforts. One such technique is cross-prover package management, which has the potential to simplify the development of logical theories and effectively share theories between different theorem prover implementations. The OpenTheory project has developed standards for packaging theories of the higher order logic implemented by the HOL family of theorem provers. What is currently missing is a standard theory library that can serve as a published contract of interoperability and contain proofs of basic properties that would otherwise appear in many theory packages. This talk will present a standard theory library for higher order logic represented as an OpenTheory package. We identify the core theory set of the HOL family of theorem provers, and describe the process of instrumenting the HOL Light theorem prover to extract a standardized version of its core theory development. We profile the axioms and theorems of our standard theory library and investigate the performance cost of separating the standard theory library into coherent hierarchical theory packages.

description nil Inspiration 2 - The Force Behind Innovation This is the second event in our Inspiration series based on the concept that inspiration is the bedrock of all entrepreneurial endeavors. Entrepreneurship requires several elements - inspiration, innovation and sound business strategy. Hard work is essential, but for most successful endeavors inspiration is the key. What is the source of that inspiration? How do you find that spark that drives creativity? Meet two serial entrepreneurs who have been there and done that and now serve as mentors in the community. Srivats Sampath is the founder and CEO of McAfee.com where he pioneered the concept of subscription-based, SaaS services. Prior to moving to the Bay Area, he lived in Portland, serving in Executive-level positions at companies such as Intel and Central Point Software. Vish Mishra, a 'Mentor Capitalist' with Clearstone Ventures, is a serial entrepreneur with several successful ventures. He was a Co-founder of Excelan (sold to Novell), founder of Telera and CEO of four other start-ups. He is also the President of TiE Sillicon Valley. Listen to the inspiring stories of these two innovative thinkers, network with other entrepreneurs, charter members and technology leaders at a reception sponsored by Tonkon Torp. The event will be moderated by Nitin Khanna CEO, MergerTech Fee - Online: Members $15, Guests $25, Full-time Students $10 +$5 at the door.

create Calagator::Event 1250460430 Pitch Club Roll back

description nil **Please note new start time of 6pm - Show up by 6 so we can get this shit kicked off. Hard stop at 8pm; networkers/heavy drinkers/people who don't want to go home can take it to the bar after that.** Want to practice your startup pitch in front of people who've done it before? Crave the harsh criticism of your peers? Need the validation of seeing what works and what doesn't in other pitches? Bring your 3 minute pitch. Put your name in a hat and if it gets picked, you're on. Powerpoints discouraged - just pitch. Then, answer questions and listen to painfully honest feedback from a panel of so-called experts. The first rule of Pitch Club is you HAVE TO PITCH. The second rule of Pitch Club is you HAVE TO PITCH. It doesn't have to be your startup - pitch your blog, your ideas for turning cat feces into gold, or your plan for world domination. More rules as we think of them. FAQ: Q: Who are these so-called experts and what are they going to do to me? A: Your pitch will be evaluated by tech entrepreneurs and people who pitch for a living. They are your superiors. Q: What about NDAs? Someone's going to steal my idea! A: There are no NDAs - use your best judgment about what to talk about and what not to. Also, remember the first rule of fight club - don't talk about fight club. We're all on the honor system here. Q: My pitch is more than 3 minutes - can I have more time? A: No. Q: Will it be catered? A: Hell no. You know what's in the lobster bisque. Q: Can anyone critique a pitch? A: No, only the panel.
