update Calagator::Event 1250462332 Vibrant Data PDX Hackathon Roll back

description Imagine a world in which data becomes a personal asset that works on behalf of our personal interests and communities. Everyday, apps like yours could control how to send their data out into the world to circulate and bring back value to users. Certainly this would require a change in the way the world views data today, and in the infrastructure that enables it to flow freely while protected. This event is a first step in building that infrastructure for the benefit of all. Consider the prospect of Facebook, Google, Amazon, LinkedIn and other data silos bidding against each other for what data you might provide. What kinds of data might be the most interesting? How could that value be enhanced? How could you collect it with minimal effort? How would your privacy be protected? What could you get in return? At this event you’ll pick a particular type of personal data and build an app to show how its value as a personal asset can be enhanced. The app can be mobile, desktop, web or something else. About Vibrant Data Inspired by the Arab Spring popular uprisings’ use of Facebook and Twitter, The Vibrant Data Project is trying to understand the development landscape that is giving rise to the Gutenburg press of our era: disruptive communication and commerce vehicles that have the potential to overthrow corrupt regimes, spread new ideas, broaden economic opportunity, improve health and well being and aid in the fight for social justice and human rights. #vdat Imagine a world in which data becomes a personal asset that works on behalf of our personal interests and communities. create Calagator::Event 1250462331 Portland Linux/Unix Group: OpenBSD Roll back

description nil OpenBSD by Bryan Linton OpenBSD is a free *nix-like operating system that focuses on security, correctness and developer freedom. With only two remote holes in the default install in over 10 years, OpenBSD has a reputation of being one of the most secure operating systems in common use. This talk will present a basic overview of what OpenBSD is, and will heavily emphasize what its strengths are. It will also cover the various methods OpenBSD uses to remain secure. With OpenBSD 5.1 arriving May 1st, we will also discuss some of its new features and improvements. Many of us will go to the The Lucky Lab Northwest Beer Hall at 1945 NW Quimby after the presentation.

We think you will find these two success stories interesting and informative. Details will be coming very soon on where this Roundtable will be hosted. Doors will be open at 5:00 p.m. for pre-discussion networking, and we will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. As a community effort to support the software segment's economic growth, the Roundtables are at no cost to attendees. The Portland startup scene is full of activity, talent, and new concepts – if you’ve got these but need a candid, firsthand roadmap on applying solid strategy to your business idea, this Roundtable’s for you. Refreshments will be served, and there are a limited number of seats. Please RSVP to Tamsen Galloway to reserve a spot at the Roundtable. Details will be listed at www.calagator.org. About the PDX11 Roundtable Series: The PDX11 Roundtable Series is an answer to the startup community’s request for a roundtable-style, firsthand interaction with software leaders who have expertise in specific topics. These will be held on a regular basis throughout the year. For more information about the PDX11 Network, please visit www.pdx11.org Please RSVP to [email protected] to reserve your spot at the roundtable!
