create Calagator::Event 1250464962 The Digital Age of Marketing [Innovation in Motion} Roll back

description nil In today’s digital word, it can be difficult to reach consumers who are constantly connected AND constantly bombarded with ads and messages. They’re watching TV while on their tablets. They switch between Facebook and Twitter on their smartphones. Let’s face it. You have to do something to grab their attention for more than five—or fifty—seconds. If you want to stand out and win their attention, your content should be king. Google no longer likes technical-sounding, SEO-filled web pages. Your content should be original, exciting, engaging, useful, informative, and valuable. After all, you’re not a robot and neither is your brand. Join us this month and learn why storytelling through strong content matters.

We'll talk about mobile tools for all kinds of nonprofits, from civic organizations to activist groups to arts programs.</span></p> <p><span>Stop by and ask questions -- or offer your own wisdom! <br></span></p> <p><span><b>PRESENTATIONS:</b> <br></span></p> <p><span>In July 2012, <b><a href="http://211info.org/">211info</a></b> -- the nonprofit that runs Oregon and Southwest Washington's free service for connecting people to social services -- launched two-way SMS/texting to accompany their phone and web services. It was among one of the first in the nation among 2-1-1 organizations (there are 2-1-1 organizations in every U.S. state, like 9-1-1). And 211info became one of the first to use two-way texting in social services in Oregon. The early results have been fascinating. Learn how and why low-income people use texting vs. the phone or web. Understand how to staff such a service. And benefit from lessons learned during this one-year program's evolution.</span></p> <p><b><a href="http://cel.ly/">Cel.ly</a></b>'s mission is to support messages that build movements, inspire learning, level playing fields and promote free speech. Celly allows you to create a mobile social network that works with any mobile phone or device. Members can join instantly with one text and exchange group messages, polls, reminders, and web alerts. Celly creates networks where existing social networks dont work. At rallies, meetings, and events, Celly provides the quickest way to form a group that everyone can join. In schools, students and teachers can communicate freely with Celly while keeping phone numbers private. For organizations like city governments, businesses, and neighborhoods, each bureau, office, or block can communicate internally using private cells.</p> <p><b>And a third presenter to be announced.</b> <br></p> <p><span>Stop by for discussion, networking with the nonprofit tech crowd, and refreshments!</span> <br></p> <p><b>PRESENTERS:</b> <br></p> <p><b>Matt Kinshella</b>, Online Services and Communications Director at <a href="http://211info.org/">211info</a></p> <p>Matt Kinshella is a member of 211info's executive team. Matt is the person who started the texting program at 211info and is in charge of launching many of 211info's new technology efforts. <br></p> <p><b>Thomas Schreiber</b>, Software Developer at <a href="http://cel.ly/">Cel.ly</a> <br></p> <p><i><b>Many thanks to our venue and snacks sponsor, OpenSourcery!</b></i> <br></p> <img src="http://www.opensourcery.com/sites/all/themes/os_base/images/opensourcery.png" style="margin: 5px;"><p>In business since 2004, <a href="http://www.opensourcery.com/">OpenSourcery</a> has developed and successfully deployed and managed hundreds of Drupal-based websites. create Calagator::Event 1250464956 SFWA Pacific Northwest Reader Series Roll back

description nil The next Portland event will be held on Wednesday, August 14 and will also be hosted by Peter Orullian, accompanied by Brent Weeks and Terry Brooks. The greater Pacific Northwest is home to Ursula K. Le Guin, Kay Kenyon, Jay Lake, Nancy Kress, Brent Weeks, Ted Chiang and Ramona Quimby. Although Ramona isn't known for her Science Fiction and Fantasy escapades, the rest are, and will be celebrated as part of the Pacific Northwest Reading Series. These free quarterly events provide the Northwest Science Fiction and Fantasy community a chance to gather, network and enjoy readings from local authors. Each event starts with notes from the host, a leading local author, who has selected two of their favorite writers to complete the evening's theme. In turn, each is given time to read from their latest work, interpreting and explaining their concepts and vision. In addition, space is provided for networking and conversation. Set in the pub-like atmosphere of the McMenamins Kennedy School in Portland, OR, events begin at 7:00 pm, and end by 8:30 pm.

update Calagator::Event 1250464954 Agile PDX Evening: Agile Journey at PGE Roll back

description Application Delivery at PGE currently uses both waterfall and iterative work management methodologies. PGE’s IT uses these to support six internal lines of business with their project and production support needs. PGE started the agile journey in 2009 in aid of a large scale multi-project initiative to roll-out network read meters for our customers. Over the subsequent four and half years, that experience was extended into where PGE’s IT delivery is today. Scaling to the enterprise required the synthesis of many different viewpoints, overcoming the deficiencies of agile training as applied in larger circumstances, and fabricating new processes and tools to enhance and manage the value of delivery. During this talk Mark will share highlights of what was valuable, what was a struggle, what he would do the same if starting over, and what he would do differently. Bio: Mark Menger is a passionate leader in the adoption of Scrum at Portland General Electric, believing strongly in the underpinning concepts of servant leadership and self-organization. He led four Scrum teams and the enterprise architecture function of PGE’s multi-million dollar Automated Metering Infrastructure initiative. As the supervisor of Application Delivery Services, he is currently scaling PGE’s adoption of Agile software delivery to 14 teams across six business client functions. This effort includes business client relationship development, and improvements in quality assurance and engineering practices. When he’s not rooting for the Timbers, the remainder of his attention is focused on Sailflow reports for the Columbia and Willamette rivers. This event is free and is at Puppet Labs. It begins at 6:30 pm with pizza, sponsored by PNSQC (Many thanks to both Puppet Labs and PNSQC for supporting agile in Portland). The program starts at 7:00 pm. After the program you're invited to join us for a no-host gathering at a nearby brewpub for further discussion.
