<h3>Summary</h3>
We live in a world of Big Data, trying to make sense of it to deliver Business Intelligence. We have the promise of NOSQL and Applied Data Science to deliver some solutions. In dealing with today's challenges we need some new and different ways of thinking. Do we still need Conceptual models? How do they continue to benefit us? What are the limitations of relational models, and how do we overcome them? What are the best strategies for preparing and presenting data model diagrams to support meaningful conversations with our business partners? How do our data modeling tools help? How is the data warehouse environment evolving? Are we beyond dimensional models? How do we work with NOSQL tools and schema-less databases? Do these environments still need data modeling? What is a Data Lake and how do we manage it?
Dr. Gordon Everest will explore these questions and provide some insight for dealing with issues surrounding the role of data modeling in the world we live in today. His presentation will provide some new strategies and approaches. His presentations are always lively and will challenge our thinking.

After a great beta test, we're ready to take this thing into production. PIE and Built Oregon would like to invite you to our first Community Hour[s]. This will be an ongoing gathering of all the people who make up the entrepreneurial fabric in our community. There is no agenda, panel, or discussion. It’s a time to relax and network with old friends and new connections. As much as we all love technology, relationships are built through personal connections and shared stories. So we hope you’ll join us for a few minutes, or a couple hours at the CENTRL Office Main Bar on September 6th from 5-7pm. (Ending at 7pm sharp!)
See you there! |

Refactoring for Asynchronous Execution on Mobile Devices
Roll back
| description |
To improve responsiveness, developers often use asynchronous programming architecture. In the post-PC era, asynchronous programming is even more in demand because mobile and wearable devices have limited resources and access the network excessively. One current development task is refactoring long-running, blocking synchronous code (for example, accessing the Web, a cloud, a database, or a file system) into nonblocking asynchronous code. Danny will guide us through the challenges of retrofitting code from synchronous to asynchronous while presenting program analyses as well as showcasing a growing, practical tool set for this process.

Breach, Incident, or Spill: Your Compliance Requirements
Roll back

If you use technology in your day to day operations (and who doesn't), join us on the morning of Wednesday, September 14th for our third of four events on mitigating the risks of business impacts through cybersecurity. Attendance of all 4 events is not required, so we encourage all IT professionals to join us on September 14th!
Cyber security incident management isn't just about a technical response to a breach or spill. Almost every business and government entity handles and stores regulated data and are subject to a complex tapestry of compliance requirements.
Understanding the nuance between events, incidents and breaches is key.
This Technology Leadership event explores incident response focused on compliance reporting. Subject matter experts from RADAR will engage attendees in:
-Assessing an incident and the need for compliance reporting
-Dinstinguishing between security and privacy incidents
-Key components in building a culture of compliance into your organization's incident response |

Tonight, our Emacs Hangout will feature two lightning talks (one oriented to less experienced Emacsians):
• 15 minute intro to customizing Emacs with Emacs Lisp, by Matthew Hoselton
• 10 minute intro to using Emacs to give Presentations, by Howard Abrams
These will be followed by a Hack Night, where we can all get together and hack on new or existing projects, or work on some of the ideas we learned about tonight. If you have a little or big project or problem you'd like to solve, bring it, and pair up with someone who may have some experience in that area.
Hope to see you all there! |

2-day workshop: Advanced Redux/Async

Note: this is a paid event. You can purchase tickets at https://universe.com/advancedredux
You've learned React, and are excited about building robust, scalable applications. But at some point your application is going to become too complex for React to handle on its own. How do you effectively manage each component and their states? Enter Redux.
Redux has fast become the architecture of choice for building scalable applications with JavaScript and React. It will help you to better organize your application and make state mutations more predictable and transparent.
In this advanced workshop, FreeCodeCamp CTO Berkeley Martinez will help you to take your development skills to the next level.
## What you will learn
Saturday - Sunday:
* Using Redux Middleware
* Managing Asynchronicity
* Dispatching Thunks and Promises
* Using Redux with RxJS Observables
* Analytics with Redux
* Server Side Rendering using RxJS Observables
## What we will build
We will apply the principles above as we build a social e-commerce app, complete with:
* Search and Filtering
* User authentication
* Likes
* Follows
* Shopping Cart
## Your Instructor
**Berkeley Martinez, CTO of FreeCodeCamp.com**

Berkeley is the CTO of freecodecamp.com, a free online community for learning full-stack web development where students garner real-world experience by engineering solutions for nonprofit companies. He has been programming with React for over two years, and is the author of Redux-Epic, a library built to do better async and server-side rendering in React with RxJS Observables. He is also the co-organizer of the San Francisco-based Meetup group Real World React, which features talks and workshops on using React in real-world, production applications. As an instructor at Real World React, he consults individuals and businesses looking to become experts in React, Redux, and other tools in the ecosystem.
## Prerequisites
* Familiar with React.js
* Understands fundamentals of Redux
* Comfortable with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
* Familiar with ES6 Syntax (not an exhaustive list)
* Arrow Function syntax
* Spread/Rest
* And using them to change objects/arrays without mutation (immutable methods)
* Promises
* Class syntax
* Module syntax
* Comfortable with the command line & NPM
* Comfortable building with React and React-Router
* Comfortable with the concepts of functional programming.
## Pre-class Resources
* Follow the link above to the event website -- Calagator limits the amount of links we can post
## Your Organizer
Real World React is an SF-based organization that features talks, meetups, and workshops on using React & Redux in real-world, production applications.
