update Calagator::Event 1250474511 Intro to Git Workshop Roll back

description Git is well over a decade old and still reigns King and is a de Facto Standard for many good reasons. Join us for an Intro to Git workshop where you will learn the basics of this powerful version-control tool. We will walk through setting up a project on GitHub and will be using the command line to step through and understand a series of commands typically seen in a common workflow "Feature Branch". At the end of the night you should have a general understanding of Git as a tool and how to use it from the command line to maintain proper version control of your code. create Calagator::Event 1250474523 Portland Perl Mongers - Ingy dot Net on TestML, Data Driven Testing for All Modern Programming Languages Roll back

description nil TestML - Data Driven Testing for All Modern Programming Languages In 2004 I created the Test::Base data driven testing module for CPAN. It became popular with several prolific CPAN authors like MIYAGAWA and became the main testing framework for companies like Socialtext and OpenResty, In 2010 I decided to "Acmeize" it and I made TestML with the intent of making it work in all programming languages. I got it going in Perl5/CPAN and a couple other languages. In 2017 OpenResty paid me to write a new version of the language in their proprietary ecosystem, and the resulting idea was really much better. They allowed me to take the new ideas to Open Source and in 2018 I have the new great TestML language. It is currently working in 8 languages (Bash, CoffeeScript, Go, JavaScript, Perl 5, Perl 6, Python 2 and Python 3) and easy to port. Other ports are under way including C++. The official YAML test suite is written in TestML! In this talk I will: - Introduce you to the TestML language (it's so simple, most programs are a single line!) - Show how TestML works well with any language's existing test frameworks - Show how to use in Perl 5 and 6 and others - Show how the language is compiled to Lingy (a JSON based Lisp) - Show how to port TestML to a new programming language or test framework - and much more!

create Calagator::Event 1250474521 Portland AWS User Group - Amazon Sumerian - Create and Host Immersive AR and VR Content for the 3D Web Roll back

description nil
Please join us for the next Portland AWS User Group Meetup on Thursday, November 8, hosted by KinderCare Education.

TOPIC: Amazon Sumerian - Create and Host Immersive AR and VR Content for the 3D Web, using only a Web Browser.

Presenters:
• Dennis Baker, KinderCare Education

• Kyle Roche, General Manager, Amazon Sumerian

Schedule:

• 6:00 PM: Check-in and Happy Hour

• 6:30 PM: Demo and Deep Dive

• 7:45 PM: Q&A

A special thanks to our host KinderCare Education. Headquartered in Portland, KinderCare Education is an experience-based provider of early education and child care, serving 170,000 children and their families across the country every day.

https://aws.amazon.com/sumerian/
http://www.kc-education.com/

Details:
Take yourself back to 1998, when the first websites were being built. What tool did they use? For many it was a tool like Dreamweaver: expensive, complex, on-premise software. Fast forward to 2018. What do people use now? Tools like Wordpress, Wix, Weebly and Shopify. These tools are cloud-based, pay-as-you-go, and simple yet powerful. Content creation for the 3D web (including AR and VR) is high friction today. Businesses have devices and problems to solve but the content creation tools feel like we’re stuck in the 90’s.

Kyle Roche, GM of AR/VR at Amazon Web Services, will discuss how AWS leverages their cloud offerings to simplify content creation for the 3D web. Amazon Sumerian allows non-3D experts to create AR and VR content using only a web browser. Content can be easily published to end-users who then decide how they want to consume the experience. Learn how you can develop dynamic, immersive customer engagements that can experienced via advertising signage, in-store retail displays, websites, mobile devices, or VR headsets. With Sumerian, you can build once and publish widely.

description nil
Details
Same place, still looking for speakers. If you have anything you would like to present, let me know!

If you need parking, there's a parking deck below Safeway.

Agenda:

6:00 p.m.: Food, beverage, and networking

6:40 p.m.: Welcome message by Karl Fezer

6:45 p.m: Speaker 1: "Transfer Learning, or How to Stand on the Shoulders of Giants" - James DiPadua
7:30 p.m: Speaker 2: "Quantum Mechanics for Modeling Composite Semantic Spaces" - Connor Favreau
8:15 p.m.- 8:30: Project Ideas. Pitch your Project Ideas to this meetup group

8:30: End

Speaker 1 Details:

Abstract:

There's been a mountain of research into Deep Neural Networks' practical applications in image, audio and text processing. But these deep networks are often built on large corpuses of data (such as ImageNet or Wikipedia).

But that may not apply directly to your domain. Gathering data specific to your problem space may not only be a lengthy process but an expensive one too. That makes the business win a hard sell.

Transfer Learning can dramatically eliminate many of those problems, quickly.

In 'How to stand on the shoulders of giants,' we'll discuss the research background into Transfer Learning and how to implement the process in either Keras or PyTorch. The goal is for listeners to feel comfortable with the concept and prepared to begin researching an application in their workspaces.

Bio:

James is a wanderer, tinkerer, and ponderer. Not one to be pinned down, he's more comfortable in the abstract than in the known. He embraces ambiguity with a bearhug. That's a trick of course. He bear hugs the ambiguity into little mathematical boxes and then says "Dance!" and, oh, how that ambiguity dances! James currently hangs his hat at Vacasa where he works as a Senior Data Scientist tackling a myriad of growth-objectives with engineering and machine learning.

Speaker 2 Details:

Five years ago, Word2Vec offered a leap forward for the average data scientist to perform efficient algorithms in Natural Language Processing. From a body of text, Word2Vec generates a semantic space, in which the trained word vectors are often highly associated with their meaning. The next leap, a semantic space for phrases and sentences, proves tougher both computationally and in faithfully representing a composite meaning over multiple words. Surprisingly, quantifying particle interactions a la quantum mechanics shares close mathematical similarity to quantifying the meaning of words, phrases, and sentences. In this talk, I will provide an overview of current techniques in modeling language past word vectors, as well as point out the quantum mechanical aspects of these techniques. Emphasis will be placed on the “Compositional Distributional Semantics” model for the task of identifying word ambiguity."

We may even hack a little if the night is young!

People who're new to programming and new friends to the Node community are very welcome! Say hi, make some noise, get to know folks, and ask questions!

Brief note about our location:

Please look for Nodesters standing by the door to let you in if it's locked! If you arrive beyond 6:35pm, please shoot us a tweet at @pdxnode, and we'll come as soon as we can to let you in. :)

description nil
Hello, this is our monthly informal meetup for the Portland QS community. The idea is for us to get together and talk about what we are working on and learning from our data and self-experiments.

There won't be formal talks, but if you want to show others what you are working on, there will be a projector on hand.

Food and drinks are going to be potluck style. If you can, bring something that you can share with others. It doesn't need to be elaborate. A simple snack is great.

Looking forward to seeing what you are up to!
