CONFERENCE

OGW '11 is designed to bring the Northwest region together to explore opportunities to open government, increase civic engagement, and coordinate projects across governments. Now is the time to move from old models and technology to finding innovative, cost efficient, and transparent methods for accomplishing governmentâs core missions.The conference exposes attendees to new ideas, technologies, practices, and partnerships. The conferenceâs goal is to help your organization build relationships and gain insights which help you build a more transparent, engaged government.
APPS CONTEST
The conference also includes an app development contest on Day Two, May 14. Developers entering the Open Gov West Cross-Gov Apps Contest have the opportunity to transform government data into useful information accessible to the massesâand to win prizes like iPads, marketing assistance, and technology prize packs. Governments from across the Pacific Northwest will send representatives from their own data.gov sites to offer developers advice and support, making this a unique opportunity for developers to interact directly with government data providers while building the applications.
The competition will run in the style of a code-a-thon, in which development begins Saturday, May 14 at 9 a.m. with a 7 p.m. deadline, with winners announced that evening. Sponsor Tropo will be providing $1,000 in developer scholarships and free development kits for participants. Helping you Solve the Rubik's Cube of Revenue Growth: Getting from $1M to $5M
Roll back
| description |
Ever try to solve a Rubik's cube? Most people can complete one side, but solving the whole puzzle is decidedly more difficult. Entrepreneurs experience the same thing when trying to solve the revenue growth puzzle. Achieving the first million is pretty straightforward, but growing revenues from $1M to $5M is complicated. You have to be thinking several steps ahead and managing several moving parts. Solving the revenue growth puzzle requires you to think of marketing, sales, staffing, training, financing, production and distribution. OEN has assembled a stellar panel of entrepreneurs who have successfully grown their companiesâ revenues past the $5M mark and are willing to share their experiences, and answer your questions. Please join moderator Frank Helle, CEO of Axian, Inc. and Program Chair for OEN's CEO Roundtable, along with the following three revenue-growth experts for an informative and entertaining panel discussion. There will be plenty of interactive Q&A time regarding how to drive revenue growth from the $1M marker to the $5M marker.
Chris Marsh, Pulse Health
Julie Pickens, Little Busy Bodies
Mike Wright, Wellpartner
You can cut to profitability but not to top-line growth...learn what these experts know This panel of local entrepreneurs knows how to create long-term value for all stake holders through top-line growth. They also have succeeded recently despite the challenging access to capital and the difficult economy businesses face today. This workshop is your opportunity to quiz them on their successes, frustrations, and lessons learned that you can apply to your growing business. |

speakers: chromatic, Eric Wilhelm, etc
Bring something small and useful to show off.
chromatic - three pieces of code extracted from larger projects:
* a single-command (with confirmation) deployment system built on Dist::Zilla
* a Plack-based authentication system
* a Plack-based database switcher
... and the silly little after-hours project that inspired these projects.
Eric Wilhelm - a way to send mail through your imap server
As always, the meeting will be followed by social hour at the Lucky Lab.

CEO Roundtable - Creating an Executive Leadership Team That Works
Roll back
| description |
Frank Helle, CEO of Axian, Inc., will lead an interactive discussion about what to look for as you're selecting and growing your executive team. Weâll focus on leadership team issues and the warning signs that, if left untended, can derail executives' careers -- and in the process can torpedo both the culture of your team and your growing company. Share with other CEOs your experiences, insights and frustrations in working with your own and othersâ potential career derailers, and gain insights for proactively addressing these leadership issues.
Our featured content expert is executive coach Rebecca Perry. As a former manager in a Fortune 50 company, and with 20+ years of experience as coach and sounding board for leaders in start-up and growing organizations, she brings to our table her curiosity, insights and lessons-observed.
The content of this session will include a brief description of the Hogan Leadership instrument -- a unique personality assessment so incisive itâs a legally-defensible predictor of leadership success. You'll hear about the 11 most common ways leaders shoot their careers and their company cultures in the foot. This information can help you notice warning signs in your team before they become show-stoppers.
Our group will discuss lessons-learned in creating alignment on a leadership team, and fostering an environment where weâre bringing out each others' best especially during the intense and often stress-producing phases of a young company.
Open only to CEOS or Presidents of currently operating companies that have employees. Boxed lunch will be served. This program is limited to 12 participants, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
