create Calagator::Event 1250465237 The Technical Services Talent Paradox: Solutions to the Talent Crunch Roll back

description nil In today's technology services industry, it is increasingly difficult to source, attract, and retain top technical services talent. The demand for services has evolved from traditional models to much more complex solutions. This evolution makes finding employees skilled to support increasingly complex technical services a constant challenge. Why? Because we now have to seek professionals with the right balance of technical chops and business acumen. The goal of this event is to address these issues with an open discussion forum with some of the industry’s top services brands, discussing best practices and processes for talent acquisition and retention. You will leave with an arsenal of real-world knowledge that will help your organization attract better and more qualified prospective employees, improve the quality of new hires, and retain the valuable team members that your organization worked so hard to acquire in the first place. PANELISTS J.R. Storment, Chief Customer Officer, Cloudability Jeff Miller, Director and Founder, EdgeLink Anne Buckley, Senior Manager Technical Support, Salesforce.com MODERATOR Susy Dunn, Vice President of People, Jama Software

We will be meeting on December 6, 2013 from 8-11 a.m. in the Central Sisters Conference Room at Cambia Health Solutions, 100 SW Market Street, first floor, which is a public area. You will see the conference room on the right after the lobby and elevators. We will have a full breakfast buffet from 8-9 a.m. We will do introductions and announcements from 9-9:30 a.m. and conduct the Lean Coffee discussions from 9:30-10:30 a.m., leaving the final half hour for follow-up conversations. update Calagator::Event 1250465052 Portland Linux/Unix Group Advanced Topics Roll back

description Portland's 12-month, three-track open source conference The Portland Linux/Unix Group meets three times a month: First Thursday General Meeting at PSU Third Tuesday Advanced Topics Meeting at Free Geek Third Sunday Clinic at Free Geek We try announce our speakers two weeks in advance but some times it is last minute. They're usually conference-quality none the less. Many attendees will break for a social hour at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne after the meeting See you there! Who: Rogan Creswick
What: Multi-App Security Analysis: Looking for Android App Collusion
Where: Free Geek, 1731 SE 10th Avenue, Portland
When: Tuesday, November 19th, 2013 at 7pm
Why: The pursuit of technology freedom
The Android permission model opens up a number of opportunities for apps to bypass the established single-app permission checks that Android users rely on to control data flow and application behavior on their devices. I'll do my best to terrify the Android-using audience by describing the attack surface for colluding applications and showing interactive visualizations of multi-app data flow. We'll look at the Android permission model, the user-interface it results in, and I'll show just how easy it is to make apps that look innocuous. Bio: Rogan Creswick develops unique tools and techniques for software development and security analysis at Galois, Inc. His research interests focus on improving the state of the art in software engineering tools and user interfaces. His experience also reaches into the areas of user interface automation and customization via integrated assistants and automated documentation aides at IBM Research. He has striven to provide natural interfaces to ease communication with complex and semi-sentient agents through existing tools that have already become trustworthy and familiar to their users. Many attendees will break for a social hour at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne after the meeting See you there!

update Calagator::Event 1250465217 Design Challenge: Build a better UAV, save rhinos Roll back

description Hey Everyone! Want to build your own unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)? This December we are going doing a two weekend open-sourced design challenge to take an existing UAV design, make it better, and build it. What for? To save rhinos. Presently rhino poaching is a horribly growing epidemic. By creating an inexpensive, effective, reliable, open source UAV we'll be able to help security teams respond to these fast moving and well-organized crime details. We're working with local maker space ADX, locally developed design software Fusion 360, the PDX Drone User Group, and UAV professional Stan Hisel. Come join us! Event is Dec 7/8 & 14/15 (in the mornings) at ADX Portland. There is no cost to participate, just pay your way on your team's materials. Space is limited to six teams. The timing of the challenge is set to coincide with a bigger competition called the Wildlife UAV Challenge which has $65k in prizes to the winner. If things go well in this tiny challenge it's a great springboard to move forward. Here are two links with more details: http://www.adxportland.com/build-a-drone-save-rhinos/ http://t.co/bItZ7UWGHg Very Best, Mike Mike Aubry Fusion 360 - Build a Better UAV Challenge - PDX Coordinator Hey Everyone! description nil What is ADX? It’s what shop class should have been. Want to make something? We’re your gym for a better kind of workout. Everyone is welcome―in our 12,000-square foot facility, high-profile designers work alongside students, retirees share their knowledge with novice builders, and entrepreneurs mix with hobbyists. We give you access to the tools, the space, and the community to help you create anything you dream up. Want something made? Need a 12-foot tall light-up sign? Want to ditch that Ikea set for a handcrafted, exotic hardwood line of custom furniture? Or maybe just a really sweet keychain? We’ll work with you to get your project done right.
