update Calagator::Event 1250476967 PDXWIT Online: Experienced Women in Tech Virtual Event Roll back

description ***Registration through Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZaBb6ygFSWKkakHwRsHMfA is required to gain entry to this event *** Are you a woman with 15 or more years of experience working in technology? Do you want to spend time with other women in tech who understand your point of view as someone who has been in this industry for a while? PDXWIT’s Experienced Women in Tech events work to foster a community for women like you. We tell stories all the time: to persuade someone to support our idea, to explain to an employee how they might improve, or to inspire a team that is facing challenges. It’s an essential skill. But what makes a compelling story? And how can you improve your ability to tell stories that persuade? Learn techniques to use in an interview when you want to convey your experience in a compelling and interesting way. Tell a story to generate the attention you need to move a project forward. On May 21st, join PDXWIT and host Edgelink for an entertaining and practical event where you will learn: Why storytelling is such an important skill How to use common narrative structures to make your stories more memorable and effective How to apply these techniques to your own stories Bring a story of your own (factual or fictional); you will have a chance to give it a makeover, and to learn from others as they do the same. The evening will involve a story about storytelling, and then we'll break out into small groups and rewrite the story you brought with you — or write one while you're there. We'll reconvene with a few examples of your story makeover and hear how you used a new framework to enhance your story. Phil Weber, a professional trainer, fantastic storyteller and local musician will coach us on techniques that can transform the way we tell a tale. Agenda: 5:30 p.m. - Webinar open /networking 6:00 p.m. - PDXWIT Introductions and Announcements 6:15 p.m. - Host welcome 6:30 p.m. - Presentation/Panel Begins 7:00 p.m. - More networking 7:30 p.m. - Event Ends Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome. ***Registration through Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZaBb6ygFSWKkakHwRsHMfA is required to gain entry to this event *** We tell stories all the time: to persuade someone to support our idea, to explain to an employee how they might improve, or to inspire a team that is facing challenges. create Calagator::Event 1250477015 PIE founder stories: McKenna Dempsey, Kamber Roll back

description nil Join PIE for a conversation with McKenna Dempsey, cofounder and CEO of current PIE company Kamber. At least 20 million teenagers are living with a mental health disorder in the United States and 70% of them aren’t getting the treatment they need. Kamber’s mission is to change that by providing easily accessible tools and resources that empower teens to prioritize their mental health and make space for self acceptance. By creating a mobile app that provides exercises for difficult moments, coping techniques and education, teens will be equipped with the tools they need to begin managing their mental health and find ways to ground themselves. For more, see McKenna's presentation from PIE Demo Day 2020 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_vrmHAI4MQ). RSVP / Submit questions: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/founder-story-mckenna-dempsey-kamber

create Calagator::Event 1250477014 PIE founder stories: Julia Niiro, MilkRun Roll back

description nil Join us for a conversation with PIE alum and Techstars alum Julia Niiro, founder of MilkRun. See Julia's story about MilkRun at PIE Demo Day 2019 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbaIO9XltRg), her views on small local farms from TEDxPortland 2019, and the explosive growth MilkRun has seen due to the pandemic shared during Techstars Anywhere Demo Day 2020. MilkRun works with farmers and producers in Oregon & Southern Washington to break down the access barriers to local food. The national average for how far food travels to get from the farm to your house is 1,500 miles. That’s wild! We’ve cut down our average to 35 miles and have designed a system that leapfrogs the industrialized food system. Less travel = less pollution. More access to food = fresher, healthier foods! It’s not just about ditching the grocery store lines, it’s about keeping money in the community and supporting local producers. For farmers, we’re able to provide 6-7x what they’d make from a normal grocery store. It should be as easy (if not easier) to buy from local farmers as it is to order a cab or book a stay in someone’s house, right? 90% of the small farms in America right now are at risk of extinction. If mega-industrialized farming becomes our only option for food, we’ll have no more farmer’s markets, no more CSAs, no more farmers who are stewards to the land. Without radical new systems like MilkRun, the only options for food will be from huge corporations pushing profit over people, and we just don’t want to live in that kind of a world. We can do this, together! RSVP / Submit questions: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/pie-founder-story-julia-niiro-milkrun

update Calagator::Event 1250476967 PDXWIT Online: Experienced Women in Tech Virtual Event Roll back

description ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/102140689552} is required to gain entry to this event *** Are you a woman with 15 or more years of experience working in technology? ***Registration through Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZaBb6ygFSWKkakHwRsHMfA is required to gain entry to this event *** Are you a woman with 15 or more years of experience working in technology? With this in mind, Microsoft has recently introduced advanced data prep with dataflows for the Power Platform, a suite of self-service low-code/no-code features and capabilities for business analysts and citizen developers to easily process and unify their data and store it in Azure-based data-lake storage. With these new capabilities, Microsoft offers a solution for any business need — whether you want to prep your data with ease, using a familiar built-in Power Query experience, or leverage the full Azure stack for more advanced use-cases. By attending this virtual event, hosted exclusively for DAMA Portland members, you will learn everything you need to know about dataflows and how to easily prep your data, leverage Common Data Services (CDS) improve time-to-value, eliminate data silos, and create one source of truth for your organizational insights. What You Will Learn Learn why Self-Service Data Preparation is important Hear the latest about Common Data Service (CDS) and Common Data Model (CDM) Gather insights about dataflows Observe live Demos Time for attendee Q&A Where RSVP for Zoom link Date – Thursday, May 21st Time – 8:30 – 10:30am

create Calagator::Event 1250477005 OWASP PDX - Yes, You Too Can Break Crypto: Exploiting Common Crypto Mistakes Roll back

description nil Abstract Cryptography is tricky. Sure, everybody knows not to roll out their own crypto, but is it enough? Are the standard algorithms, libraries, and utilities always used the right way? This is of course a rhetorical question! Humans keep making mistakes that other humans can exploit, and Murphy’s law continues to prove true: “If there is a wrong way to do something, then someone will do it.” In this talk, not only will we discuss what can go wrong, but also how attackers could take advantage of that. Insufficient entropy? Static initialization vector? Key reuse in stream cipher? Lack of ciphertext integrity? We’ve heard these terms and may be familiar with them in theory, but let’s see actual examples of these and other crypto mistakes and corresponding exploits, and understand how they could lead to real life problems. Are you not on an offensive team and not interested in exploitation? Then this talk is for you too! Come and learn how to avoid common crypto mistakes in your code! Bio Alexei began his career as a software developer. A decade later, he realized that breaking code was way more fun than writing code, and decided to switch direction. He is now a full-time application security professional, with several years of assisting various development teams in delivering secure code, as well as security consulting. He holds OSCP and CISSP, and currently works as a lead product security engineer for Salesforce. RSVP: https://www.meetup.com/OWASP-Portland-Chapter/events/270404725/

create Calagator::Event 1250477004 Consumer products startup ecosystem with Mitch Daugherty Roll back

description nil Join us for a conversation with Mitch Daugherty, cofounder and director of Built Oregon, an organization focused on championing the consumer product industry in Oregon. The greatest joy Mitch has found is meeting with everyone in the statewide ecosystem. Listening to entrepreneurial challenges. Looking for opportunities to connect them to a resource that could help them get one step further down the road. Engaging in conversations about breaking down the silos and echo chambers. He listened to stories and realized each one formed a piece of this tapestry that makes up Oregon. As he looked back on his journey, he noticed the common theme in all his adventures and career choices has been the effort to bridge gaps through interaction and dialogue. He cofounded Built Oregon as a way to build on a simple belief: that stories can raise awareness of companies and regions and help drive economic development. Throughout that process, he's constantly reminded of what he has learned over his journey: Conversations matter. And the most important conversations take place with those outside of your sphere of influence, and with people who possess opposing views. The value of a given dialogue hinges on conversations that are inclusive, honest and transparent. RSVP: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/consumer-products-startup-ecosystem-mitch-daugherty-ama
