CEO Roundtable - Creating an Executive Leadership Team That Works
Roll back
| description |
Frank Helle, CEO of Axian, Inc., will lead an interactive discussion about what to look for as you're selecting and growing your executive team. Weâll focus on leadership team issues and the warning signs that, if left untended, can derail executives' careers -- and in the process can torpedo both the culture of your team and your growing company. Share with other CEOs your experiences, insights and frustrations in working with your own and othersâ potential career derailers, and gain insights for proactively addressing these leadership issues.
Our featured content expert is executive coach Rebecca Perry. As a former manager in a Fortune 50 company, and with 20+ years of experience as coach and sounding board for leaders in start-up and growing organizations, she brings to our table her curiosity, insights and lessons-observed.
The content of this session will include a brief description of the Hogan Leadership instrument -- a unique personality assessment so incisive itâs a legally-defensible predictor of leadership success. You'll hear about the 11 most common ways leaders shoot their careers and their company cultures in the foot. This information can help you notice warning signs in your team before they become show-stoppers.
Our group will discuss lessons-learned in creating alignment on a leadership team, and fostering an environment where weâre bringing out each others' best especially during the intense and often stress-producing phases of a young company.
Open only to CEOS or Presidents of currently operating companies that have employees. Boxed lunch will be served. This program is limited to 12 participants, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Location: 309 SW 6th Ave. Ironstone Bank Conference Room

How to do Consulting
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a consultant? What does
it take? What are the hard parts? Erik has been down that road, and
tonight he's going share what he's learned. What should you wear to a
client site? How do you get health insurance? How much money do Sharepoint
consultants make?
Erik Mork
Erik Mork is a consultant and founder of Silver Bay Labs LLC. He cut his
teeth doing professional consulting for Silverlight, and now he's working on
Windows Phone and iPad. He's loving the life of an independent.

TiE Oregon: Semiconductor Entrepreneurship - Opportunities & Challenges
Roll back
| description |
What are the challenges facing semiconductor startups in todayâs environment?
Is it enough to have developed a great technology?
Historically, semiconductor startups have had massive development costs & long development cycles. A fabless semiconductor has to typically raise > $50M with a development and time to volume cycle that lasts 3-4 years or more. Has this changed in the light of current advances in technology?
Founders of semiconductor startups often come from an engineering background. What business challenges do these founders face?
Our panel, constituted of Steve Sharp, Chairman Triquint & past CEO of Triquint Semiconductor, Howard Bubb, CEO Ambric & Manpreet Khaira, CEO Avnera will address these and other important issues related to the viability of the fabless semiconductor startups in the new millennium.
The panel will be moderated by Scott Keeney, CEO & Co-founder nLight, a manufacturer of semiconductor lasers

Oh, and we may also talk about Postgres or something. And we'll join those folks at the Lucky Lab afterwards.

Portland Amazon AWS Users Group
Jeff Barr is Amazon's chief web services evangelist and will be speaking about what's new with AWS. We'll have a Q&A afterwards so we can pick Jeff's brain about all of those questions that go unanswered. |

CivicApps Hackathon - Mobile Apps for Education
Roll back
| description |
There are a number of people and companies in Portland who are building textbook applications, teaching tools and other mobile resources, and there is even more of an interest. In August 2010, Mobile Portland's Mobile in Education event drew almost 100 people http://mobileportland.com/recaps/mobile-education-recap.
In partnership with the City of Portland, Webvisions and the Mayor's Office, we're honored to announce a hackathon dedicated exclusively to making mobile applications for education. There will be time in the morning for ideas and presentations from educators involved with the city, and brainstorming sessions and hacking in the afternoon.
Mobile developers, graphic and UX designers, educators and students are very welcome. Teams will have a chance to present their projects at 7:30Pm and will be judged by members of the City of Portland, Education District and local tech leaders. The three top projects will be automatically entered into the Webvisionary Awards in the Mobile Category.
CivicApps will be kindly sponsoring lunch, and we are looking for sponsors for breakfast and dinner. Please contact @caseorganic if you're interested in sponsoring. Come change the future of education! |

What if I could show you specific examples of how real companies can use Internet marketing to skyrocket their revenue?
How It Works:
- Iâll need three volunteers who want to get a full analysis of their websites and Internet marketing strategies.
- Iâll meet with my team and weâll spend two hours doing research for each website.
- At the webinar Iâll share our findings. We charge our clients $2,600 for this analysis but if you volunteer youâll basically get that much value for free.
- Even if you donât volunteer, attending the webinar is guaranteed to skyrocket your Internet Marketing IQ. Youâre going to learn how some of the best Internet marketers think and what approach weâd take to help real businesses make a lot of money and get a lot of clients.
What Iâll Be Analyzing:
- What you need to fix on your site to rank at the top of Google.
- Personalized advice on how you can use social media and blogging to your advantage.
- Website critique: Iâll share with you some ideas on how you can improve your site to get more customers.
- How to optimize your business model to make more money, from more customers, more often.
