Exploring Photoshop CS4 with Mark Fitzgerald – Oregonian Join us for an evening withMark Fitzgerald, Adobe Certified Photoshop Expert and author of “Photoshop CS4 After the Shoot”, as we Delve into the recently released PhotoshopCS4. Our exploration will begin with Photoshop’s redesigned user interface. Mark will also demonstrate some of the new and improved features, including: • The new Adobe Kuler panel that allows you to explore, create, and share color themes with an online community. • Two new panels - the Adjustments panel for quickly creating adjustment layers, and the new Masks panel that allows you to painlessly create and manage layer masks in ways never possible on previous versions of Photoshop. • The cool new Content Aware Scaling feature lets you to protect parts of an image as you scale its size. • The Auto Blending feature that allows you to selectively choose tones, colors, and focal point from a range of images as they’re merged into a single image. • New soft-proofing feature for the color-blind individuals using Color Universal Design Organization profiles. • Updated print dialog that provides superior color management and the ability to preview out-ofgamut areas of the image in the print dialog. Mark will also give us a tour of the new and faster Adobe Bridge CS4, and show us a few secrets to speeding up the workflow using some of the nifty tools buried in the menus. We’ll also be looking at Adobe Camera Raw 5 and some of its new tools, including the localized corrections and post-crop vignetting. If you’re already using Photoshop CS4, this presentation will point out many of the new features that you may not have seen yet. Flickr PDX: Sixth Annual Holiday Meetup & White Elephant Gift Exchange – Red Lion Hotel on the River, Jantzen Beach I know, it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but considering how fast things book up this time of year, I thought it best that we reserve our space right away. Thanks Ara for all of your help with this! Participating in the holiday white elephant gift exchange is purely optional. If you would like to play, bring a WRAPPED gift, but don't spend more than $10-ish. The giving of used gifts is equally acceptable. Gifts don't necessarily have to be photo-related; a number of tacky/gaudy, funny gifts have shown up in the past that were a real hoot (ex. last year’s leopard print snuggie). Yes, the stealing of gifts is encouraged during the game, so be prepared for a raucous and rowdy time! Note: The usual monthly photo contest will be on hiatus until the January meetup |

Photography, Visual Media, and Your Brand with Aaron Hockley of Tech Photo Guy – Online The photography world has been upended a few times in the last couple of decades and with all professional photography on hiatus for the time being, we'll find out if this leads to another major change. What hasn't changed is that every business, from startup to corporation, needs to have images of their people, products, venues, and other resources. These photos end up on websites, social media, in print, at those things called conferences that we used to do, and elsewhere. Folks are going to notice the difference between an organization that has solid consistent imagery versus an outfit where you can tell that their visual brand was an afterthought. What does photography and visual branding look like for a startup or other organization in 2020 and beyond? When should you hire a pro and when should you do it yourself? If you can afford the same gear as a pro, what else are they bringing to the table that you don't have? Should you invest in photography proactively, or react as you have a need for pictures? Let's talk about visual media and photography. Join us for a mentor Q&A with Aaron Hockley of Hockley Photography and TechPhotoGuy.com. Aaron is a professional photographer with a background in the tech world; he's photographed quite a few Portland tech startups and organizations over the past 12 years. The Professional Photographers of America has recognized him as a Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman, which means that he knows a thing or two (maybe even three!) about making and using effective images.
