BarCamp 6: Indie Video Game Showcase and Crowd Funding Jam – Eliot Center (First Unitarian Church) Join us on March 30th to learn how to develop your own crowd funding project and explore the creativity of Portland's indie game developers. In February, video game company Double Fine Adventure asked fans to support their new game by contributing $400,000. After only twelve hours, pledges exceeded $1 million. After less than 30 days, their game became the most funded project in Kickstarter history with over 87 thousand backers contributing more than $3.3 million. In total, they had reached 834% of their funding goal (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure). Double Fine Adventure's success has generated massive excitement among indie developers & gamers everywhere. Instead of needing loans or credit, creators are finding new opportunities through our vibrant global community. At BarCamp Portland 6, we will showcase indie video games and explore crowd funding models. The goal of our event is to help local developers and entrepreneurs prototype their projects and discover best practices for crowd funding. For more information on this session, visit our blog http://kawaiidreams.wordpress.com/2012/03/17/barcamp-portland-6-indie-video-game-showcase-and-crowd-funding-jam/ For more information on BarCamp PDX: http://barcampportland.org/ BarCamp PDX is free of charge, as is the Indie Video Gaming session. CAT barcamp – 1900 SW 4th avenue, Portland Oregon 97201 CAT BarCamp is a free unconference hosted by the Computer Action Team at Portland State University every year. BarCamps are free conferences where the people who show up on the day of decide what the conference is about. No scheduled talks are planned beforehand by the organizers, making the range of talks and topics covered each year entirely unique. Timeslots are posted in an accessible place and the attendants are given (fairly) free reign to post and choose which talks they would like to attend or give. We only ask that topics be respectful and PG-rated. The CAT at PSU is an ops training organization that has secured the venue and is organizing the event. We expect many job-hungry students skilled in development, computer science, operations, and everything else to be in attendance at this event and we want to enable as many connections as possible. Because the CAT is a tech organization and has ties to the larger tech community, many speakers will likely give tech-oriented talks. |
