PDXWIT How to be a workplace ally in tech
Website
Description
Tech’s lack of diversity can feel like an affront to all of us, with cultural biases and implicit messages that are particularly harmful to underrepresented groups. Changing the tech culture requires a lot of people making individual choices that actively tear down and confront everyday biases and microaggressions. Such work is difficult and takes practice. Join Kristina Houck and Tanya L. Crenshaw as they guide participants through exercises and discussions. You will uncover personal obstacles and practice strategies to engage in culture change. Anyone who wants be be an ally to underrepresented groups is invited to join this engaging event.

PDXWIT Purpose:
PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events.
