Website
Description
Please RSVP [http://mobileportland.com/events/make-mobile-web-fast]
Making your website fast leads to happy users, reduced operating costs, and even improved search ranking. Speed is especially important on the mobile web, where users want information quickly and network connections can be frustratingly slow.
At the next Mobile Portland meeting Joshua Marantz, Matthew Steele, and Ilya Grigorik will show us:
the latest mobile web optimization techniques and best practices; how Google's PageSpeed Insights can help you identify performance problems; how the SPDY protocol and PageSpeed tools such as mod_pagespeed and ngx_pagespeed can be used to make things faster; Google's upcoming PageSpeed Service;
We hope to see you all Monday evening.
About the Speakers
Joshua Marantz, Software Engineer, Google [http://www.google.com/]
Joshua Marantz is a software engineer at Google, where he is tech-lead of mod_pagespeed, a project to build an open-source Apache module for automatically improving website latency and reducing bandwidth consumption by rewriting HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Images. At Google he has also worked on latency improvements in web caching infrastructure and scalable social networking. Prior to Google, Josh spent 20 years in the Electronic Design Automation industry, much of it working on accelerated functional simulation. He holds BS and MS degrees from MIT, in Computer Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Matthew Steele, Software Engineer, Google [http://www.google.com/]
Matthew Steele is a software engineer at Google, working on making the web faster. Matthew is the lead designer and developer of mod_spdy, which adds SPDY protocol support to Apache Httpd. Matthew has also contributed to mod_pagespeed, an Apache module that automatically rewrites web pages to make the faster, and is one of the developers of the PageSpeed Insights analysis tool.
Ilya Grigorik, Developer Advocate, Google [http://www.google.com/]
Ilya Grigorik is a web performance engineer and developer advocate on the Make The Web Fast team at Google, where he spends his days and nights on making the web fast and driving adoption of performance best practices.
Prior to focusing on web performance Ilya was the founder and CTO of PostRank, a social analytics company which was acquired by Google and became the core of social analytics reporting within Google Analytics. Whenever not thinking web performance, or analytics, Ilya can be found contributing to open-source projects, reading, or building fun projects like VimGolf, GitHub Archive and others.
